Map of the United States but now each state touches the ocean
@mapsontheweb @the-real-numbers
All states can have a little sip of ocean water. As a treat.
hm. kentucky beach. tidewater, kentucky. norfolk, kentucky, home to the largest US navy installation on the east coast.
the picturesque outerbanks of tennessee.
the big apple: new york city, michigan.
Make one where the fewest possible states can access the ocean.

Honestly, society has lost something unbearable when they started putting ads on âNever Gonna Give You Upâ. It used to be you clicked a link, and you heard that synth music and you just groaned. Nowadays, you see a link, go, âthat might be Rick Astleyâ, then you click it, Youtube plays an ad for dog food and you see below that is indeed Rick Astley. You go, âah, yes, that was indeed a link to that music video. Do I feel like watching the video today or not? Probably  not, but I have the entire ad time to decideâ. Itâs essentially a global âdo you really want to get Rickrolled?â filter.
This is really one of the best and most important reasons for using an adblocker: So you can get the proper rickroll experience. Here are some good ones for your platform.
if a boy told me "want hot choccy" out loud i would dump him on the spot
The misandry here is so
As I grow older I feel my capacity to understand that Miss Piggy is not a real person reached a peak in my adolescence and is now on a steady decline. I watched a Wendy Williams interview and there's this part that's like "can we get a ring cam!" and Miss Piggy shows her bling and I'm just like fuck she's so iconic. Miss Piggy who are you wearing? Miss Piggy have you ever considered running for office??
Like literally every time I see Miss Piggy there's a period where I need to readjust to the fact that it's not a person, and I feel that period is getting longer and longer with every instance
now all my Youtube recommendations are filled with Miss Piggy interviews. Iâm not complaining. Miss Piggy whatâs your secret to ageing so graciously
It's not just the audience; professional journalists, hosts, and actors report it is legitimately difficult to not see the Muppet as a person, and it is, in fact, incredibly easy to interview or act with them once the performer gets properly set up.
Like that one time they couldn't figure out why Kermit's audio was so garbage... then realized they'd put the mic on him instead of the performer.
If you watch a lot of Muppet media you'll see that there is an overarching story to all Muppet projects. If the Muppets are not playing characters, like in Christmas Carol, Treasure Island, The Great Muppet Caper, and Muppets Take Manhattan, they are playing themselves. In Great Muppet Caper and Muppets Take Manhattan there are fourth wall moments when they mention their "real" lives. All other Muppet media is about a troupe of actors who meet on a road trip, start on a small vaudeville variety type show, and gradually make it big. This narrative carries into talk show interviews, news clips, and the 2010s Muppet revival. The narrative treats them as real people and they have the status of beloved aging celebrities.

god i hate how aesthetic-obsessed we have become. i'm not talking about cottagecore or dark academia or any of the other -cores, i'm talking about everything being so glossy and pretty and perfect and smooth and one-liner hot takes and feel-good own-the-conservatives progressivism and Top 10 Company Tweets We Laughed At and ring lights and young vloggers with pastel-perfect colour-corrected lives and carefully curated messy title cards and perfect montages being called "photo dumps" and bookstagrams or booktoks or bookblrs who buy every book they read, not a library edition in sight and "that girl" and this is how you age when you're unproblematic and glow ups and "clean" "inclusive" beauty and earth tones and minimalism and filming random people without their consent and definition of the self through consumption of goods and ggrgehwrgehrgehrgehrgehrrerg
I really need to do more studying and write an essay on how Americanism is a genuine folk religion which reveres capital and the vague concept of "the free market" as a god of providence to be pleased in order to lead a prosperous life, also that the founding fathers are prophetic, perhaps even messianic figures who basically gave birth to this god through the revolutionary war, and that the vast majority of conservative Christians in America revere capital more than the god they claim to serve in an ironic sort of golden calf situation.
I think you're just stupid, bro
Apotheosis of Washington
1800â1802 John James Barralet
There is a trend amongst depictions of the founding fathers to show them as literal christ figures, a trend that started very early in the nation's life.
I'd also like to point out Washington & Lincoln Apotheosis, artist unknown, about 1865, the same year as lincoln's assasination
The personification of America in the form of Columbia, a goddess of both the land and the concepts that America tends to inhabit. A pre-anime Hetalia. She was often used in depictions of Manifest Destiny, a religions ideal that stated that America, by God's will, must go from coast to coast.
American Progress by, John Gast, 1872. Note the indigenous people cast in literal darkness, away from the light. The religions deification of America relies upon colonialism and white supremacy
Here's ANOTHER painting called the Apotheosis of George Washington depicting him as an angel sitting with Roman deities. This one is in the Rotunda of the U.S. Capitol
There's a mod for Crusader Kings II set in a post-apocalyptic North America that takes this and develops it into a formal religion.
Americanism is one of the faiths practiced in After the End. Americanist is part of the Old World Cultist religious group. Americanists wors

i learned about Marion Stokes, a Philadelphia woman who began taping whatever was on television in 1979 and didnât stop until her death in 2012.. The 71,000 VHS and Betamax tapes she made are the most complete collection preserving this era of TV. They are being digitized by the Internet Archive. (x)
i feel like this is selling her a bit short tbh. Itâs not like she was a random woman who decided to tape âwhateverâ was on television. She was a civil rights activist and archivist, who was extremely concerned about preserving history. She believed that, by taping television, she would be preserving history EXACTLY as it was perceived at the time; she didnât want the detail in the news to disappear with time. And she was RIGHT.
Like I said, she didnât just tape âwhateverâ was on television. It was extremely targeted towards news stations. There were 8 VCRs running at all times in her home. Her lifeâ-and her familyâs livesâ-were centered around 6 hour blocks, since that was the amount of time that a tape would record for. Her collections were also extremely organized.Â
The Marion Stokes Movies and Video Collection may be found on the Internet Archive here.
Wikipediaâs article on Marion Stokes may be found here.
A documentary of her life, Recorder: the Marion Stokes Project, was released in 2019, and seems to have good reviews, though I have not yet seen it.
From archive.org (Internet Archive) - The Marion Stokes Papers contain documents related to the life and activism of Marion Stokes (1929-2012), civil rights activist, feminist, and news archivist. Stokesâ social activist career began in the 1950s, and encompassed many areas of left politics during a particularly transformative time in America. Her groundbreaking television show (co-produced with her husband John S Stokes Jr), Input, addressed many pressing issues, and much of it remains relevant today. Additionally, Stokes amassed a huge archive of videotaped television news, which is slowly being made available through the work of the Internet Archive.

This is my first coding assignment for my software engineering class that started today. Itâs going to be a really good semester.
UPDATE: I got my grade back and
â100âł
Since this post has gotten some attention, I feel like itâs worth mentioning that this was just the first half of the assignment.
The second half, which we werenât made aware of until the day we were meant to turn this one in, was to trade USB drives with the person sitting next to us and MODIFY their âunreadableâ code without getting any help from them.
This was to teach us two things:
1) In this field, youâll spend more time working with code written by other people than you will writing original code from a blank slate. The people who wrote the original code will probably not be around to help you. Learning to read code is IMPORTANT, even if it seems unreadable.
2) There is a strong brotherhood/sisterhood among programmers and software engineers. Respect that bond when youâre writing code and documentation. In my professorâs words:Â âWhen you write code, pretend that the person who will have to maintain it after youâre gone is a homicidal maniac who knows where you live.â
This class and professor are incredible.
I think tumblr should add a 'king for a day' feature. This would do very little other than add a crown to the chosen king's avatar (how blogs are chosen is not revealed) and enable the king to 'carcinize' blogs, changing their avatar to a crab. I think this would be a good feature because it addresses no problems with the website and also would make some people very mad and that would be funny I think.
