" hm? " alex peaks one eyes open, a dopey grin curling up on one side of his face. " got any ideas? " his eyes open as he slowly looks down to glance at his lap, and back up to stiles. they keep finding themselves in these situations where the obvious answer is hidden in their pants. but alex doesn't want to be presumptuous. maybe stiles just wants to. . . talk.

❝ it won't. would you like to know what will happen? ❞ the stillness with which he operates grows around them, cocooning the tender cadence of his voice and arun, he settles back into the booth with a quiet finality. when he speaks, it's with utter cognizance of someone older, more wizened, that the young thing that sits across from alex. ❝ your body will fuse with it's weight, it will bow under the burden and it will warp. the years are kind now, alex, but they won't be so kind when all of this resentment becomes poison to feed off of. his shadow becomes parkinson's. it becomes a colonoscopy bag at fourty and an autoimmune disease that rids you of your ability to do much of anything at fifty. slowly, over a decade, your fingers will curl inward where you grasp him and they will stay that way until you die. cut the cord or it will wrap around your neck and that is where it will stay. ❞

" that's. . . " the many descriptions of decay settle in his mind, and his finger taps against the coffee cup before taking a sip. arun is right, but all of that is still a lot to take in. " i have no idea how to cut that cord. i mean this is. . . this is all i've known. " his mind wanders away from his brother, and to other important pieces of his world. to his friendship with salamander. to the lies of singer. to the yearn of his heart for tc. does all of that change if he finds a way to become this different person?

"Planning on introducing me to the fam, are we? You do that with all your roommies?" Their leg brushed up against his. Weaving itself between his legs as if to say 'you do this will all your roommies too?'

he decides to ignore all of the questions for now. " i bet lar would venmo me for gas money. "
