there are actual people out there who want to genetically modify carnivores so they no longer eat other animals
im going to fly away from this planet goodbye
yeah let’s just fuck up the entire ecosystem because i’m uncomfortable with the fact that nature doesn’t conform to my world-views.
#hopefully satire
I think I just crushed your hopes…
Once again, Matt Groening predicts the future.
Destroying entire ecosystems and throwing off the balance of nature because nature won’t coddle you.The epitome of human arrogance and childish nonsense.

Feed them to the carnivores
so i just want to point out that treehugger has changed the title of this article since it was first published (sept 2014) to “Meet the people who want to turn predators into herbivores” for “further accuracy.” the testing/breeding that would have to go into something like this, not to mention the potential ecological consequences, would not fall under vegan ethics. when was the last time vegans ran a campaign against carnivorous animals (who btw, unlike humans, are unable to consider what they’re going to eat through an ethical lens)?
it’s always fun to see people who eat animals try to champion nature when human’s exploitation of animals is anything but in harmony with our planet’s ecosystem. i’m sure many of these people also take no issue with zoos, which are artificial environments where carnivorous animals are also bred and not allowed to follow their instincts or function in a “natural” ecosystem.
can we start having actual conversations instead of getting hyped up over an article discussing the musings of a few college philosophy profs? like how animal agriculture is contributing to california’s water crisis? and how the UN has predicted FISHLESS OCEANS by 2050 bc of how unsustainable global fishing practices are? or how cattle ranching is responsible for 80% of deforestation in the amazon? or any of the other environmental crises advocates of veganism have been screaming at the top of our lungs about for decades?

Connor and I have been talking about the GoT/Song of Ice and Fire conundrum tonight (I hold what seems to be a somewhat unpopular opinion that the show is going to ruin a lot of the book series’ pleasures), and I think I’ve landed on what’s really bothering me: the books simply aren’t good enough to come out as strong when plot/character developments are revealed first in the show. To me, Martin’s strengths are exactly those two things, and the tension inherent in rotating the pov in each chapter lessens if you’re not eager to catch up to a character because you already know what’s going to happen to them, which is a more relaxed reading experience than I want from Martin’s tomes. I want some payoff for slogging through his descriptions sometimes and paying time to characters I’m less invested in. The books in this series aren’t exactly ones to luxuriate in. I already feel like I’ve ruined the series for myself by reading the books and watching the show almost concurrently. I wouldn’t be so bothered if it seemed like there was going to be a significant time gap between the next book in the series and the next season of the show, but if the rumors are true, there isn’t going to be. Connor’s going to watch the show, and I’m going to hold off for the book and probably feel a bit resentful about it.
The idea that women are innately more nurturing than men and have maternal instinct might sound endearing and without broader social context, even complimentary, because hey, its a great attribute to be loving and useful in a family setting, but it isn’t. To every demand of women, there is a lenience for men. When girls/women are understood as not only made for household duties, but actually enjoy it, the requirement for men to hold up their portion of domestic duties dissolves.
Women aren’t uniformly anything. Some might be nurturing and appreciate home labor, some might not, just like some might be tall and some might not, but its not a biological trait. Ultimately, its a sporadic characteristic turned social expectation which patriarchal standards have so deeply normalized that its made to be intrinsic.
This expectation has daunting consequences for practically every young girl and woman. Girls are domesticated young, trained to take on chores, while boys have the freedom to be a “mess”, or human. If a woman is married (in a hetero union), she is assumed, perhaps even socially coerced to do housework and child care. If a woman doesn’t fancy cooking or cleaning and has no desire of motherhood, she is seen as deficient, unfit as a spouse and “less of a woman”.
One of the most challenging aspects of fighting modern (meaning neoliberal) heteropatriarchy is the acuteness of which oppressive behavior occurs. Many millennial aged liberal men wouldn’t outright say they demand women to serve them and probably even support surface level feminist theory, but still legitimatize and absorb repressive gender roles in their understandings of and interactions with women. And many will resist being challenged on these ideas, no matter how counteractive the real life results are.

Andy's bday cake. Blueb lemon. Sugar zest sprinkles. Working on my 🐚🐌🐳 #vegan #whatvegansbake
Today's work lunch includes the ice cream I made at home last night: coconut/cashew base, house-made caramel, chocolate cake chunks. Adapted from the #minimalistbaker sea salt caramel coconut ice cream. #vegan #veganicecream
brought home some "old" caramel from work and failed cake to make salted caramel ice cream w/ chocolate cake chunks (going off of this minimalist baker recipe). everything is cooling now, but i need it to be 9 o'clock already. i used half cashews, half coconut milk this time (trying the so delicious "culinary" one & am hoping it makes a nice texture) as well as half sugar, half maple syrup. i think i'm going to cube the cake this time instead of using crumbles.
I want to escape self-pity. I'm making greater allowances, trying to let people scream and grieve and fight while swallowing myself. I've flown so high in this storm cloud that I've lost sight, but I can almost taste the rain washing old parts of me. If I practice taking care of people, one day I may be prepared to take care of myself.
It’s always, to me, very hard. And the only thing that sustains me is the fact that I did it before, and there must be some way I can do it this time.

The point of the daily diary exercise is not to record what you already know about what happened to you in the last 24 hours. Instead, it’s an invitation to the back of your mind to come forward and reveal to you the perishable images about the day you didn’t notice you noticed at all.
