Asking as someone who knows very little abt Devilman Crybaby beyond the basic premise, what exactly is so f*cked up about it (specifically the racism you mentioned)?
I'm gonna touch on the racism only but that isn't my only gripe with the show, such as the grossness just being too much for me personally and the grimdark-esq nature of it all (I get it isn't actually grimdark but it had the energy of it)
But yeah if you're Native I highly advise not to watch it. There's an Amazon village that comes up a couple times during the show. The first appearance of them is them being referred to as "devil worshipers" and actually possessed by demons themselves.
There's no mention of them for awhile until the final few episodes. The main villain Ryo returns to the village and finds an idol of him in it, and it's as though they "worship" him, and it turns out he is Satan. As soon as this is revealed, the village is literally carpet bombed, and only Ryo survives.
Ryo later is talking about the village on TV with demons desguised as humans with him. He calls basically Indigenous people on the whole "Ancients" and again states that those Amazonian people were just demons.
The last mention of them is in the final episode. It shows that Ryo was actually raised by this village, and when the government learns he's there, you see the villagers literally getting shot dead, and young Ryo getting away.
It's very uncomfortable to watch, the Indigenous people are HEAVILY dehumanized, literally demonized, and murdered violently on screen twice.
In general I didn't like Devilman Crybaby for a bunch of other reasons too but the portrayal of Indigenous people literally made me wanna puke.
