Children and Creativity
Creativity is an essential skill for children these days. Being creative means not only making new ideas about certain issues, but also staying emotional well being. Creative is not given to all of us, so they should work constantly. They can improve more creativity by learning literature, arts, and science.
First, children can be more creative by interacting with literature because they can cultivate imagination. Children see scenes of works in their head, and think about the message of stories based on the contexts. When I was a high school student, I took literature class; I enjoyed discussing the meaning of expressions in literature. I also had fun with writing the continuation of literature by maximizing my imagination. These experiences help me when I try to achieve the goal; I imagine that I will succeed in the big presentation. This routine changes my mind negative and anxiety to positive and motivated.
Second, I think visual arts are effectieve to be creative because children can learn the way to express their own values, thoughts, beliefs. Looking at many wonderful paintings, and listening to impressive music gives children a lot of inspiration. For example, In my high school art class, I was inspired by Gauguin's sense of value to death, so I created my own ideas to death, then made a big artwork. In this way, children can learn new perspectives to a theme, and by analyzing many artworks, they can show their ideas.
Finally, children can invent new views through science because today’s science is developed by many people’s inventions and discoveries. They repeated failure and success, and estimated the factors. Likewise, students can improve their creativity by figuring out questions, and observing in their daily lives. For instance, when I was an elementary school student, I came up with the question; the relationship between hardness of egg and time of boiling. I tried to observe and compare some kinds of time for boiling. Children can create fresh ideas by exploring their questions and experimenting.
Creativity is an important skill for children, so they should work in alternative ways to get creativity. For me, literature, arts, and science are effective for children.
