Layan felt like she was about to just fall over out of exhaustion. She looked the part as well--not that she didn’t always.

However, this was one of those times few and far between that she actually decided to clock out and grab an energy drink from the vending machine. Perhaps a break would indeed do her work performance good, she thought, but she knew that she couldn’t be out for too long. She couldn’t allow herself to be; she couldn’t be a slacker. Only a few minutes at most. Just long enough to grab her drink (or two, perhaps) and chug it.

Layan approached the vending machine and reached for her wallet--her wallet of which she found she had left at her work station.

Layan sighed in disappointment and leaned her head against the front side of the machine. She gave it a weak, unenthusiastic bang with the side of her fist, which slowly slid down the machine before just dangling open-handed beside her.

She couldn’t just go back and get it without having to clock back in. To make matters worse, she had the feeling that if she didn’t get something in her system, she would wind up collapsing at her station.

And she knew that this time she might not be so lucky as to survive it.

She was tempted to just go back and take her chances and clock back out later, but at what cost? Passing out wasn’t really a good look for someone who wanted to do the best at their job that they could.
