The bonfire is proving to be a little less intimidating than she thought it'd be. It's lively, easy to get lost in, and even easier to get drunk at, it seems. Shae hasn't gotten too tipsy just yet, and while she does want to try to keep her wits about her, she also desperately wishes she were drunk.
The drinks at Lido Bellanotte are fine, but there are starting to get to be too many people at the beach club, and she finds herself taking a walk and following the locals who seem to know where to go just to get some more space. It brings her not too far at all to a quaint looking bar right along the beach, though it ends up looking almost as packed. She remembers passing by it earlier in the day, and makes a note to herself that it must somewhat popular with the real locals.
"Ah— buonasera," Shae repeats a little lamely, her Italian definitely needing work. She's relieved when the bartender switches to English instantly, and flushes just a bit, knowing it must read on her face that she's definitely a tourist. "Cocktail, if that's alright." She'd noticed how busy it is, and as much as she'd like to spare him the time of mixing up a drink, she's just not one to down a shot of liquor too well. "What do you recommend?"
"Recommend? Cara, you are new here, yes? Do not ask what is recommended." He says, cleaning off the bar with a smooth motion and quickly wiping down a few glasses.
He's not sure why he offers the advice- it's been a long night, the bar is busy and any moment he spends chatting is a moment another customer spends waiting. But despite the tourists shouting orders and tracking sand all over his floors, he's in a good mood. A few familiar faces, just enough to keep his spirits up, and he enjoys the chatter.
Really, that's his favorite part about working the bar- and there are not many.
"Two reasons," He says as he reaches for a cocktail glass from the back shelf, "One, you are not from here. It's very obvious. Any good business man, he gives you the most expensive drink on the menu."
Luca is well aware that he's not a good business man- he's nearly ran this place into the ground enough times to know that. But it does tend to get him regulars- be honest, humble, and people get fond of the old bartender who they think is only fond for them.
"Two," He shifts towards the fruit syrups and grabs the house vodka, "And this is for any bar, not just Capri. If you ask me what I recommend, I give you something that makes me money or that I enjoy, and you would like neither, I promise. Tell me what you like- cherry, almond, sour? Give me a direction and I will make something you will come back for."
wiggling a bottle of beer still half full, gabe would've felt bad to get inside sabbia with foreign alcohol, but he has no problem setting this one on the counter. ❛❛ all set. got this from unattentive tourists of yours. ❜❜ he nods for the older barkeep to peek over his shoulder by the door to far too preoccupied strangers enjoying the night.
with a night made to be bustling with unknown faces, gabe was in need of some sort of respite before going back to take a bath in this wilderness. a quick pitstop, and of course sabbia is where he'd seek that hint of familiarity. he'd hoped to see luca, although not working like a horse the way he was. the season announces itself busy, a glimpse of what's to come at the morning market. he takes a long swing at the thought.
clearing his throat, he shakes his head. ❛❛ actually, came to see if you wanted some help. need more cases brought out front, ice refill ? ❜❜ he isn't looking to work the whole night, but he is known for cheap labor, and luca looks like he could use the help for a second.
Although Luca has lived in a vacation-worthy destination his whole life, there are very few times when he actually wishes for a break. However, seeing Gabe at his bar, now, gives him the same feeling that he assumes the tourists get after a day on the beaches.
The offer is perfectly timed, because the influx of tourists has just gotten bad enough that he's willing to accept an offer, yet not so infuriating that his temper has worn enough to snap at the younger man.
"Yes, you are a saint," Luca laughs, glancing over his shoulder to do a quick mental inventory of his station behind the bar. "If you are offering, an ice refill would be incredible."
He can see the desire for something familiar in some set of Gabe's brows and the way he's looking over like Luca is the only rope thrown in his direction. Something in him softens, maybe out of nostalgia, sympathy, or just knowing that feeling and how good it felt having something to hold on to.
"I'll get you another," He offers, gaze gentle, holding his hand out for the half-empty bottle, "You would not believe what I've seen those tourists do. Better off with a new bottle."
On him, but he's not going to say that- he'll just make sure the payment doesn't transfer.
"Buonasera, come stai?" The bonfire had quite the turnout, and it was good to catch up with some folks he hadn't seen since last summer, plus some new faces, too. He knew people would be filtering to the local businesses, including his own at Rosanova. Thankfully, his cousin was managing the public optics as Alex rested and recuperated, so he got to dodge the bullet of having to work tonight, let alone play pretend with the tourist. "Didn't see you out there, so I figured I would check in and make sure you still had a pulse," he says in jest as he helps himself to a vacant bar stool. "You do know you're allowed to take a break now and then, right?"
"I'm alright," Luca chuckles, taking the free moment to clean a few glasses and flip them on the bar. "I'm sure you're not doing badly yourself, if the bonfire is giving me this rush."
Frankly, Luca would prefer the bustle of his own bar than the bonfire out on the beach in front of it. He doesn't need a special event to enjoy the beaches he grew up on, and he's been too old for those crowds for a long time now. If he wanted to get hit on by a tourist half his age... well, that happens in here too, but at least he's got an easier escape behind the bar.
"Allowed, yes, I know." He confirms, "But why waste the opportunity? Good business here, and there is little I would enjoy less than going out and partying with a bunch of tourists."
henry glances around somewhat uncomfortably; the place is packed and he's alone. he eyes a couple of girls who look his way, blushing when he meets the eyes of one, before ducking his head and traveling to the bar. sliding into the only available bar seat left, he sighs but sends luca a smile. "just a beer, please; blue moon. you're really busy tonight..." it makes sense as its the beginning of the tourist season, and with the bonfire tonight people want to get smashed. "if you need any help, i did a few bar rotations at club rosanova when i first got here - might be a little rusty, but i'm good at picking things up."
The fact that the boy manages to find an empty barstool here tonight is a miracle, but Luca has more gratitude for the fact that he's quiet and straightforward- he's gotten far too used to tourists shouting their orders at him or taking their sweet time ordering when the bar is too busy for him to care.
There's not much he manages to care about at the moment, actually- things have all simplified in the rush, as they always do, each order a simple, repetitive series of motions that he'd memorized years ago. So even now, when Henry asks for a Blue Moon, he doesn't have to think about reaching into the cooler behind the bar and sliding it across the wooden surface.
"It's okay, but thank you." Luca chuckles, shaking his head at Henry's offer. "You have been at the bonfire? Having any fun?"

it takes him one look around the bar to understand why luca was two seconds away from losing it — stools were occupied, orders were being shouted from every direction and he could see at least ten empty glasses appear in front of his eyes before the full ones even disappeared. his eyebrows frowning as he leans against the bar, lazily watching the older man finishing with another customer because despite the rush he was in, ace looked like he had all the time in the world. “ see, i came in planning to order a drink, now i’m starting to think if i should apply for a shirt, ” his lips crack into a grin, he’s clearly enjoying it. “ you look like you’re about to declare a war on tourist season, did you know that ? ” ace rests his elbows against the counter, his eyes scanning the menu behind luca and taking his sweetest, sweetest time. “ normally i would go for the usual, but i guess tonight i will go for the bestseller .. what is it ? ”
Compared to the loud, busy nature of the bar, having a customer who talked slow and tried to spark up conversation should have been a breath of fresh air. And it is kind of nice to have a drink order that isn't shouted at him from across the bar.
"I'm aware." Luca replies, tone clipped- keeping the perfect customer service attitude kind of disappears after nine; most people just don't care enough (or are too drunk) to complain after dark. He takes the spare moment to wipe down the counter while Ace slowly drags his gaze along the drink list hung above the bar that he's seen hundreds of times by now. "What brings you here tonight? The bonfire wasn't busy enough for you, or you just needed more attention, hm?"
The bestseller? He hasn't been paying enough attention about what people order tonight, making drinks has become simplified to a series of motions he preforms with barely a thought to them. But if he had to guess, tonight, it's probably beer or his cheapest shot of house vodka, with how many partiers have slipped in looking for a cheap drink. But serving Ace a single shot of tequila is just a waste of a good customer.
"For you? Mojito with top-shelf." He says, jerking his thumb up at the most expensive bottle of rum in the bar. "Or I can just make your usual."

Luca's grateful that the bar is busy tonight, really, he is. He'd just be a little more grateful if he'd expected the rush and hadn't let his bartender take the night off to go to the bonfire.
Normally, when bigger venues host an event, he'll be lucky to have a wait at the bar. But it's the start of the tourist season, and the one thing that Sabbia does have going for it is its location right by the beach- so his floor is filled with spillovers from the bonfire, the normal groups of tourists who'd end up here, with or without the event, and all the unfortunate people sent into the nearest cheap bar (his) by their friends for another case of beer or a round of shots. All that to say, he's slammed and working the bar alone.
Still. He's grateful for the rush.
After pouring a round of lemon drops for a group at one end of the bar and pushing a glass of water towards a girl who's been sitting at the bar for a few hours too long, he moves toward the person who'd just walked in and flashes them a quick smile. "Buonasera, ah- what can I get for you? Cocktail, shots, another case for the bonfire?"
