So what does retro futurism do for us? What need does it still fill for us? I think that it suggests a future where the needs of the common person are met without question. Food is a given. Housing, not only provided, but luxurious; truly a home to be proud of. Medicine is as accessible as the internet is now. Transportation is cheap, safe, and around every corner. Cars? Self driving cars that don't commit vehicular manslaughter? Airplanes? People movers? Bullet trains from coast to coast? Well kept and safe sidewalks? Yes. All of the above in the future cities. Shorter work days? Absolutely! You hardly need money anymore, you do what you want to do and are often just as productive as ever because you're naturally motivated to do what you like. A beautiful, clean future. Smooth roads, smooth walkways, accessibility around every corner. Convenience, a given.
Beyond needs, like the home, luxuries that everyone is provided. Kitchens, not only modern, but entirely functional, tailored to your needs and wants. Temperature control in every room in every home. Heating sidewalks and driveways so you never have to shovel if you're in an area that normally warrants it.
Certainly, that time period had mannnny faults. A lot of ... racism. However, we can be the change. We can have our ideas spread to all facets of life and community. The idea is to think of a problem and consider solutions, even if they're a little ridiculous because you never know what'll be possible in the future. Look at what we already have! Small computers. Central heating. Luxury resorts. The internet. Where can we go from here?
