Favorite piece of clothing/jewelry that you currently own? Hmmmm, I have this denim vest that fades from deeper blue at the bottom to almost white at the top and a grey bracelet that has these diamond-shaped studs. I bought both of them in Brooklyn last spring (maybe actually in 2014? unclear) and I’m really happy that both of them were good forecasts of my style as it changed.

Piece of clothing/jewelry you’re currently lusting after? I need to buy sandals!!! Probably mildly ridiculous ones with too many straps.

Piece of clothing/jewelry that you loved at the time, but now regret most? There was this like one and a half year period of my life pretransition where I was REALLY cool and bought all of these loud women’s blouses (i.e. button-ups that aren’t flannel) at thrift stores and wore them with coloured pants. It was a really great look on me, and it would be nice if then-me and now-me could somehow coexist bc I feel like we’d be good friends BUT I find it hard to wear that kind of blouse now, even though I still think they’re really cute.

Favorite place to shop for clothes? Thrift stores, Forever 21

Favorite thrift store? Beacon’s Closet in NYC! I think at one point most of the clothing I wore came from there. They organise by colour and are kind of not a real thrift store, which is to say, they mainly buy interesting-looking, “thrift-store-y” stuff.

Designer you love to hate? Oh jeez, I’m so clueless about designer fashion. I think while I was interning at a fashion startup, I found the Gucci stuff just so gaudy most of the time. Like, not the signature stuff but the looks they had (apparently) just put on the runway.

Designer you hate to love? I don’t have a good answer for this one, so I’m going to reinterpret it as ‘clothing store you hate to love’ and answer Abercrombie and Fitch. I haven’t been near one in AGES, and I’ve never bought anything from there, but I used to wander through on my trips to the mall in high school and just sort of take it all in. That was when A&F style was like The Coolest you could be at my high school, and I got this really pleasant feeling of interiority and introspection surrounded by the clothes the coolest of my peers wore and the giant photographs of mostly-naked men. A lot of very pretty abs to ogle.

Top 5 current celebrity style icons? I don’t follow this as much as I should!! So just Rihanna. Maybe Grimes.

What handbag/purse are you currently using? It’s a white over-the-shoulder purse with a kind of silly-looking fake-gold chain that I bought last fall at Forever 21.

What are you wearing at this very moment? The vest I mentioned, a pink tank top and a pair of black & white floral print short shorts.

Is there a shade of lipstick you wouldn’t be caught dead wearing? Yellow? Maybe black? I have a blue and a purple that I actually look quite good in but don’t wear that often, but I suspect that I look good in most colourful shades.
