It's hard to find a Warhammer lore channel that has its own opinion instead of rereading the lore from the wiki, but it's even harder to find a one that doesn't has surface level opinions and keep repeating the same memes. I was watching Mr Bones video about Mortarion(seriously the "roasting" part made me cringe so bad) and i wrote a whole essay on the comments that i later deleted it because i thought i overreacted (regret it), and i was trying so hard to no click off the video. Later i watched the episode with him and Astartes anon about pros and cons about primarchs(Silent crying through some takes/jk but i respect them), hoping he formed a new opinion or the others will discuss the deeper parts of this character or at least feats, then the "Pros none, cons insecure jealous smelly stinky. " part made me pause the video, take a deep breath, then continue watching it. Of course a character writing is horrible if you don't read this books and think he's corny, Pale king? Buried dagger? At least God blight? I'm not saying that you must read every book, but if you want to discuss a character and criticize it. Read at least one book about him, we're talking about a franchise that has multiple writers and some writers keep messing with the characters. This also applies to Leman Russ and Lorgar (And all primarchs tbh) no offence to anyone here. Please don't harass Mr Bone or Astartes anon.
Mostly I agree, but I will argue only in one point: Morty's writing is bad. It is inconsistent, and becomes especially awful when comparing Morty's pros and cons. Because when describing his pros, authors use situations: they shape little stories about Morty and someone else, and show his pros in action. They don't just write that he's kind, and caring, and so in, they just show it through his deeds, and I do believe in it. But oh, not the same when it comes to his cons. Suddenly, authors just go like "he didn't care about their sufferings", or "he required ruthlessness". And that's all. No elaborate descriptions or showing it through actions like before. They just say "he's bad". And I, like a reader, don't believe them in these moments. Because actions speak louder than words, lol.
I absolutely agree!(even though imo i would describe Mortarion writing as decent mostly) I also agreed with Mr bones during one point, where Mortarion love this sons and becomes a daemon prince to ease the pain but then he sacrificed the death shrouds for summoning daemon? I was very confused while making character notes for Morty in my mind while i was reading books, maybe so it can show him how much of a hypocrite he is by using sorcery? it's probably bad writing. There's lot of things and moments about Mortarion that i love to discuss about, but bad writing sometimes get in the way.
Mort is a hypocrite when it comes to sorcery (when he does it he calls it "numerology" ) but he only gave in to Nurgle bc they were completely stuck in there, in horrible pain forever with no way out and they were unable to die.
Thats worse than what happened with the deathshroud so you could say he also thought thats a different situation. (Also if i remember it right he did it bc he thought the demon could kill Typhus. And that i can kinda understand😆. Still very shitty thing to do but primarchs do be like that)

listen, im not trying to be accusatory, and i absolutely don’t think it was intentional. but it’s so fucking crazy to see a character demonstrate traits that neurodivergent people identify with and then watch the media that character is in repeatedly reinforce the subnarrative that they are lesser for it. [opinionated ramble incoming].
it’s so uncomfortable how many digs there are in BG3 about how pathetic or embarrassing it is to legitimately want gale as a partner compared to other romance routes. both from npcs and from tav themselves. even if romanced, tav can repeatedly take shots at his worth as a person or his dignity, call him annoying and even literally compare being with him as equivalent to hiring bad prostitutes, to complete strangers in a tavern, and there are no consequences.
am i saying there shouldn’t be mean dialogue options or that no one should ever mock him? of course not! but the frequency of times the game asks you, the player, to laugh at how pathetic and worthless gale is compared to the frequency with which similar jokes are made about ANY of the other companions, romanced or non-romanced, is…odd.
it would even be fine if the jokes were about his past or his actions. he’s certainly done plenty of things worth mocking. and wizards are undeniably prime material for jokes about hubris, academia, and ego. but every (or almost every) joke at his expense is about calling who he is as a person—his selfhood or values—worthless and embarrassing.
you disrespect a romanced shadowheart’s faith, astarion’s autonomy, lae’zel’s culture, wyll’s morality? they leave. or at least communicate to you that that is a boundary, and that it is not okay to do that. but you’re allowed to repeatedly and methodically devalue gale’s dignity and worth, because apparently, he should be grateful you’re with him at all. And the complete lack of follow up or ability for tav or gale himself to respond to it is the game telling you, the player, that this is just…how it is. that this is accepted behavior, because it is somehow intrinsically humiliating to want him.
and yes, i do think this has a lot to do with the fact that gale is easily seen as neurodivergent-coded. there are so many examples of neurodivergent coded characters being viewed in the media or fandom as beloved in a way one might love a pet or small child, but never actually seen as people with equal dignity and worth who might be desirable.
you’re expected to be a least a little ashamed of being attracted to or in a relationship with gale because he’s too earnest, talks too much, tries too hard, feels too much. you’re allowed to love him, you’re allowed to want him, but even then the game expects you to find him laughable and not really deserving of your respect.
