Gabriel glanced over at Lynn. “Any questions?”

“No, I think I got it,” she mused.  The fact that she was on her way to hunt a ghost still had her a bit on edge.  It wasn’t that she was afraid, it’s that her world had just become about three times bigger than it had been before and suddenly everything that was lurking in the dark previously was coming to light.  It was strange.

The archangel shifted in his seat, hoping it would at least be a little more comfortable. He had no such luck, but that was to be expected. He glanced over at Lynn. “You should get one of those pencil skirts,” Gabriel mused. “Or at least try it on. You know, for fun.”

Lynn couldn’t help the smile that tugged at her lips.  Of course she knew that nobody would believe she was a federal agent if she was wearing jeans, boots and flannel, she knew better than that.  It was just the way Gabriel spoke to her, he was like someone with incredible patience trying to teach a child.

“So what’s it gonna be? You gonna make this easy or real hard?” 

Frustrated, she wiped the blood from her face, leaving a smear in its place.  “If I put the holy water down, it just makes it easier for you to kill me so why the fuck would I do that?”  She looked to the other woman, her jaw tight.  “However, I’m not unreasonable.  I’m more than willing to hear you out if you’ve got a valid topic of discussion.”

The archangel climbed into the confined car, secretly cursing humans and their means of transportation. “When we get there you should probably get some formal clothing,” Gabriel suggested. “With those clothes no one will ever believe you’re a federal agent. It’s all about playing the part, got it?”

It was apparent to her that Gabriel was less than comfortable in the car and she supposed she could understand why.  Unfortunately, she didn’t have another means of getting around.

“I wouldn’t do that if I were you, baby.”

Lynn clutched the flask of holy water tightly in her hand.  She hadn’t been hunting long, but she felt sick to her stomach as she looked at the woman in front of her.

That and she’d just fought off a shape-shifter and she was dead tired.

He tilted his head in consideration. “Another angel?” Castiel’s voice kept his monotonous smoothness. “You’ve met one of my kin?”

The way he spoke and the fact that he didn’t seem to be aggressive allowed her to let her guard down.  If an angel wanted her dead, she’d be dead.  It was simple.

“So what is it Lynn? Your boyfriend and a cushy lifestyle, or a rough road with unknown obstacles?”

“Hey,” she held her finger up, “I never said I wasn’t up to it, I’m just human.  I need to adjust like any other person would.”  She placed her hands on her hips.  “And just FYI, the boyfriend was far from a cushy lifestyle, and I’d rather be hunting monsters and ghosts any day.”

“He has work for you.”

Her expression only relaxed slightly.  “Another angel, huh?  Haven’t really heard of a ‘Castiel’, but I’m no Bible Thumper.  Have any proof that you’re the real deal?”  She knew nothing could kill an angel, nothing she had anyway.
