Voted in our new riding of Laurier Sainte-Marie, where interestingly enough, Bloc Québécois leader Gilles Duceppe is looking to win his old seat back following his defeat in 2011 to NDP Hélène Laverdière. Duceppe held the seat for 21 years prior to being defeated during the Orange Wave of 2011. Can Duceppe and the Bloc make a comeback? Are they still relevant in Quebec? We'll have to wait and see. Laurier Sainte-Marie is one of eight ridings to watch out for in Quebec, which also includes the riding of Outremont where NDP leader Tom Mulcair is running in, as well as Papineau, the home riding of Liberal leader Justin Trudeau. I hope for the sake of the Canada that I want to see in the world, a nation that truly is caring, inclusive, and multicultural, a world leader in the areas of human rights and the environment, that the Conservatives get it handed to them in this election and are ousted from office. I wrote this last year when I voted in the Ontario provincial elections for the first time since I became a Canadian citizen in 2009. It's still true today. At the end of the day, I'm so grateful to be living in a country where I can exercise my right to vote without fear of persecution or having to dodge bullets in order to do so. If you're a Canadian citizen over the age of 18 and eligible to vote, do it now. Vote for a Canada that you want to live in. Your vote does make a difference and it does count. (at Montreal, Quebec)
