WHUMPTOBER is a month-long, prompt-based creation CHALLENGE (think: Inktober, but whumpier). There are four prompts for each day of the month, giving 124 for you to play with! There is also a list of 15 alternative prompts that can be subbed in for any day to give participants as much creative freedom as possible.
All prompts are meant to serve as inspiration without being taken literally (e.g. you don’t have to include the exact wording of prompts into your work, so if you need to slightly reword a quote, that's absolutely fine). Feel free to run rampant on interpretation. For example, if the prompt is “flame", you could create something with reference to a candle/campfire/fire, your character could have suffered a burn, or the flame could be a reference to an ‘old flame’ - an old relationship. It’s truly down to you!
You can produce work in any media you choose, including but not limited to: writing, visual artwork, photo/video/audio edits, paper crafts and elaborate recommendation lists (not just a list of links). You can participate as much or as little as you want (i.e. you don’t have to do ALL the prompts if you don’t want to) and prompts can be used in any order. They are also free to use even after the event ends.

the first day of my hand drafting class in my senior year of college, after the prof taught us how to frame up on the drafting table and went over how to use the tools we'd bought, he had us all take our pencils and make a mark on the top right corner of the vellum. then he walked us through the setup steps - the border, the title block, etc.
and he told us to erase the mark.
when someone - rosie, i think - asked what the mark was for he smiled.
"if you give a novice student an expensive, blank piece of paper, they panic. they think if i start using that i will ruin it. so the first thing i want all of you to do, any time you stare at a blank piece of paper, is to ruin it a little and take the pressure off yourself. pencil erases. anxiety has to be managed."
i hated that man for a myriad of reasons, but that was some of the best advice i've ever been given.
There have been some reblogs of this that assert it works with writing if you keysmash or outline or whatever, and here is the secret, my blueberries; it works with everything.
Afraid of a recipe? Fuck up your prep a little- mildly sloppy knife work is usually easy to fix and ignore. Now something has gone wrong. Nervous about a conversation? Make a purposeful mistake in the beginning that you can correct easily. Move on and keep going. Anxious about public speaking? Screw something up in an easy to ignore way. I like to mispronounce a word.
The trick here is that the call is coming from inside the house. Your brain is the only one who is demanding that you do things perfectly the first time. You can (and will) make a million little mistakes. None of them will be the end of the world. But if what you need is to control the situation, then control it. Ruin it on purpose and then erase the error.

listen i wasn’t gonna post this on tumblr because i already have too many wips that i’m never gonna be able to finish but it’s too hot for my lunch walk today so what the hell
this is pretty loose and mostly vibes lol it came from the pic below of noah, patrick and fiona that taylor took at some sports thing that i shared with some friends and led to @lauronk and me riffing a fun little concept where the tldr is: the pitt crew goes on a field trip and it ends with a stadium collapsing MCI
DOESN’T THAT SOUND SO FUN??? rambling under the cut
ok ok so walk with me, someone organizes a day out at a game, probably javadi because she wants to give everyone a fuckin break, work life balance you know. she also thought mateo would come but he ends up baby sitting harrison for mckay instead which is disappointing but leaves her free to take psych notes on how everyone behaves around each other outside the ED
there are varying degrees of enthusiasm for this event, mel is over the moon just to be included as per usual, robby only agrees to come because dana threatens to quit if he doesn’t, jack decides to tag along because this outing will either end with robby and langdon reconciling or throwing fists and he just wants to be there to see whichever way it goes. he also thought samira was coming but she took an extra shift specifically to avoid it.
perlah came for the gossip, princess came for the hotdogs
langdon wasn’t even going to go because why tf would he want to subject himself to robby’s dagger gaze in his free time when he’s still getting it every minute of every shift but mel says she hopes he goes and he folds like a gd paper crane. but! since no one is actively dying (yet, heh) and he’s surrounded by his family friends residents, robby actually relaxes a little bit and it ends up being the first time he looks at langdon without contempt in weeks
trinity is adamantly maintaining that she’d rather be dead than at this fuckin game but she’s secretly loving it. other than langdon being there ofc but huckleberry is playing the dutiful buffer like he’s always trying to do, even though she didn’t ask him to do that and she definitely doesn’t need him to either, in fact she might kill him for it. later.
mel ends up sitting between langdon and santos because she is their get along shirt. at some point she gets up to go to the bathroom or something idk and just leaves the two of them effectively sitting next to each other lmao
langdon spends the first two innings explaining the game to mel. trinity decides to play punch huckleberry in the arm every time someone makes it to home plate. mckay and dana resume their not so subtle attempts at shaming robby into giving up his damn bike, when he looks to jack for some support all he gets is a silent look that clearly says ‘you’re on your own, brother’
joy didn’t even really want to come but she likes jack, he reminds her of her grandfather. she tells him this at least three times.
i was initially just thinking of whumping someone in the brain with a fly ball but lauren, in her infinite wisdom, suggested a full on stadium section collapse which is DELICIOUS (and i should have thought of myself tbh) cause the only thing i love more than an MCI is my faves trying to triage and treat MCI patients while they themselves are also casualties of said MCI
part way through the day when everyone is actually having a good time, someone thinks they feel an earthquake which is weird because does pittsburgh even get earthquakes?? and then part of the stadium collapses on them
so naturally as the literal dust is settling they’re all checking on each other and some of them are in worse shape than others, maybe some of them are trapped under a lil rubble and oh shit, did mel ever come back from the bathroom? the bathroom that’s in the next section over, which also collapsed, oh no! how tragically terrible and unfortunate!
they’re all more or less hobbled in some way but what are they supposed to do, sit around not helping people?? pshhh forget that. they all jump in to help triage and treat all the other people caught in the collapse but they’re also arguing with each other about who is too hurt to keep helping because “sit the fuck down, robby, you have a head wound!”
jack definitely brought his mash unit in a bag so yeah they can totally field crike that guy, he uses it on the security guard who didn’t want to let him bring it in in the first place.
again joy didn’t even WANT to come but sure, she’ll help set this guy’s broken leg or whatever. halfway through a field trach mckay mutters something about should’ve stayed home with harrison and mateo
langdon and santos are fighting but they’re also finishing each other’s spidey-sense style trauma assessments and saving lives so no one stops them
eventually they find mel and she’s beat up but not dying like they all thought so yay but bait and switch somebody we thought was okay, probably robby or langdon if i’m writing it, ends up collapsing from internal bleeding or something equally life threatening and they have to rush them back to the pitt (because in ficland the pitt is always the closest hospital no matter where you are in pittsburgh)
everyone lives but they’re probably not going to another sports game again any time soon
