Hector:”What kind of questions do you do??? What kind of person would ever do such a thing and why? Stay away from him, you who have these strange fantasies on your mind! I would take the head off to anyone who just tries to think of something like this!”

Miguel: “Ehmm… Papa Hector…? Now you’re overreaching, I think it was just a silly question, like the others..!”

Hector:”No Mijo! I’m not overreaching! Be careful of anyone, especially if they offer you a drink! Believe me … You must never trust certain people!“

There were several, but one thing I liked was how Miguel was right to rebel against the ban. I thought they would just go down the “selfish kid learns a lesson” route, but they actually did a lot more than that. 

While his family’s motives were acknowledged, they were wrong to enforce it and they come to realize it. Even though Miguel learns something along the way, the narrative proves him right with that amazing moment between him and Imelda on how family is meant to support you. He was right and his family acknowledges it. There was growth for everyone, not just for the ‘kid character who needed to learn a lesson’, and that was great. 

I also liked it how Imelda’s anger was treated as valid. Yes, the music ban was an overreaction, but she had every right to be angry over her husband just walking away and never coming back. Even when it is revealed he was killed, the movie doesn’t go “see, you were wrong all along”. She is still angry over him leaving in the first place, that anger is valid, and Héctor acknowledges it.

FINALLY I CAN POST THIS!! So this was my entry for the Coco Locos Fool-off 2019! The prompt I used was “This tastes like paint thinner and bad decisions.” I won 3rd place in the Best Quality category. \o/

I had a lot of trouble working on this, primarily because my cat deleted the script for it (though I eventually got it back!), but I was glad I got to enter it on time, like… a day before the contest ended. Drawing the different expressions was fun though and I was laughing as I worked on it, so it’s all good.

For the comic itself… I like the idea that Héctor knows how to make Imelda laugh, no matter how terrible of a mood she’s in. Even when she is Very Determined to be in a bad mood! It’s not that he doesn’t take what happened seriously–he just wants to make sure Imelda doesn’t ruin her whole night being angry the whole time. :P

Imelda: “DON’T MAKE ME KI-”…”ISS, YOU IDIOTA!”

Hector: O__O …

“He’s about to say it.”

Imelda’s whisper is barely audible, for Héctor’s ears only. Leaning against the door with his arms crossed, he glances over to the bed. Ernesto has lain down every single charro he owns and is going over them all, walking back and forth like a general inspecting troops, his back to them.

“Come on, he’s not that bad,” Héctor whispers, gaining himself a look that clearly reads ‘just you wait’.

Ernesto pauses in front of a blue charro, shakes his head, then walks past it to a deep red one Pepita has chosen to lay onto. He reaches out as though to move her. Pepita flattens her ears and hisses. Ernesto pulls back his hand.

Smart choice, that: it’s hard to play guitar with a torn-up hand, and Ernesto wants to play at his very best tomorrow. It’s not every day you meet with your record label to sign the deal, give an interview immediately afterwards to announce an album is officially in the pipeline, and perform on live TV right afterwards. He’s very obviously nervous, even if he tries to act like nothing worries him.

Héctor is… sort of nervous, too, but it’s easy to think everything will go smoothly with Imelda’s steady presence by his side, watching Ernesto try to pick an outfit for the following day. An exhausting process, truth be told, from the moment Ernesto walked in with armfuls of clothes asking for help.

They are now down to the last five suits and he has yet to make a decision, other than ‘don’t bother the cat’. He finally sighs, and Héctor knows he’s about to lose a bet just a moment before he turns.

“I have nothing to wear,” Ernesto finally declares, and Imelda flashes Héctor a smug grin.

Hector: “¿Qué? An ice cream for me?!I haven’t eaten ice cream for a lifetime! you are very kind!” <3 <3 <3

Hector: ” Oh amigo, thank you so much, of course I like it!” <3

Hector: “…!!!!”

Hector: “AY, NOOO… my head!!! Damn I forgot about this….. ouch!”

If you are wondering: Yes a skeleton can have the brain freeze headache! And if you’re wondering how… I’m still wondering why they can eat!X-D

But, as we had already mentioned, they remain with all the bodily sensations they had in life, so…
