Fortunately for everyone involved, Reiner’s goddamn leg grows back fully functional. Having regained the limb and control of his own body, Braun decides to become useful, which, in turn, allows Jean to rest.

They take turns sleeping in their only bed, and whenever Jean gets his chance, he makes sure to put as little pressure on his ribs as possible. It would be a miracle if, after everything he has been through, they healed without any complications, but at least he can try to stop the situation from getting worse.

So Jean sleeps. As much as he can, given the tasks in and around the cabin. Ones their survival depends on. Reiner, of course, is on a roll, playing the part of an irritatingly confident and theatrically independent man who didn’t need Jean’s help wiping his ass last week. Braun gets up early, hauls buckets of water from the lake, chops wood… He does everything Jean did, on his own, with broken ribs and one arm in a cast, thank you very much.
