okay so hear me out because my brain has been gnawing on this theory like a demodog on a leg and I simply cannot keep it inside anymore.
everyone and their mother is convinced Vecna wants to possess Will again this season. like yes, he’s asleep in half the trailer shots and yes, that’s literally the method they used to stop the Mind Flayer in S2, BUT. BUT!!!
I’m here to present a revolutionary concept:
Vecna does NOT want to possess Will. He wants Will to BUILD HIM A NEW UPSIDE DOWN.
and honestly? career goals.
1. why another possession makes zero sense
being a spy only works if NO ONE KNOWS YOU’RE A SPY.
if Will starts floating and growling again the whole party is gonna be like “oh okay cool, round two, where’s the sauna?” and boom. mission failed.
also I refuse to believe the Duffers would copy-paste the same Will trauma arc twice. messy? yes. that messy? no.
2. that trailer frame… yeah THAT one
there’s this blink-and-you-miss-it shot where a tiny lil silhouette is falling into a weirdly familiar zone and everyone’s like “oh that’s Vecna flashbacking again” but NO. the COLORS ARE WRONG.
yellow = Henry falling into Dimension X in the past.
blue-ish/upside-down-y = something NEW.
translation: someone else fell into Dimension X.
and I’m sorry but that figure?
I’m squinting like I’m reading the bible in 6pt font and it looks VERY Will Byers to me. VERY.
3. Dimension X lore dump because I can’t shut up
the Stranger Things stage play literally said:
✨Vecna got his powers by spending 12 hours in Dimension X, his blood changed, bada bing bada boom lethal wizard boy✨
the lab kids got the powers because they used his blood.
so if Will fell there on Nov 6th…
and then mysteriously vanished into a place that LOOKS like Hawkins but isn’t actually Hawkins…
AND the Upside Down is frozen on the exact day Will disappeared…
WILL BYERS? BUILT? THAT? SH*T?
like a Minecraft creative mode map of his trauma.
4. the “why is there a GIANT wall in the Upside Down” question
remember that one trailer shot with a massive wall in the distance??
everyone was like “oh cool set design” but HELLO??? WHY IS THERE A WALL???
because Will didn’t know anything outside Hawkins. so the world he created stops there. flat earth but make it emotionally devastating.
I fully believe Hopper and El are gonna walk around like:
“wow, the entire dimension ends like a cheap video game map.”
5. Vecna isn’t trying to possess Will — he’s recruiting him
Vecna only tries to recruit two people in the history of ever:
and Will’s power? If Vecna is brute force, Will is creation. he MAKES the world while Vecna warps it.
Vecna’s whole personality is “I will build a better world (™️)”
so… why not hire the boy who already accidentally built him real estate?
6. Will doesn’t remember because Vecna said ‘no thoughts, head empty’
Vecna has definitely repressed those memories for him.
Will is walking around like “I’m just a guy” meanwhile he is literally the architect of an entire cursed dimension.
season 5 is absolutely gonna give him an Elle-style memory recovery arc — Nina, but traumatic childhood dimension edition.
and once Will gets the powers back?
he can unmake everything Vecna ever created. monsters included. the ultimate UNO reverse.
conclusion: Will Byers is about to become the most powerful little dude in the show and I support him
Vecna doesn’t want a vessel.

and Will is about to remember he accidentally invented the whole Upside Down while just trying to bike home after D&D.
