Like come onnnn, y’all. Taissa would have the best taste in music.

As someone with a bunch of Jock Gen-X siblings (class of ‘93, ‘94, ‘95, ‘99) I can assure you these teens would be listening to a lot of Biggie Smalls, LL Cool J, Tribe Called Quest, Biz Markie, Wu-Tang Clan (keeping it to East Coast artists because as a Midwesterner I do not know how New Jersey teens would have approached West Coast music or if the coast beef was something listeners cared about)

At least put some Beastie Boys or Boyz 2 Men on your playlists.

Does Callie even have a motif? A made a whole post abt her been a butterfly 🦋 but I don't even know if she has one

Not all the characters have animal motifs but I definitely think there’s basis to the argument that Callie’s is a butterfly.

The majority of butterfly pieces she wears are jewelry though (not something more obvious like t shirts) so theres more subtlety with the motif.

I know the fandom has a lot of associations of butterflies to Jackie and Shauna but statistically Callie actually wears more pieces featuring butterflies than either of them. I think that’s interesting though as to some extent Callie is a mix of Shauna and Jackie. In the season 1 one of the scripts mentions that Callie reminds Shauna of Jackie but then as seasons go on she becomes more like Shauna or at least fears she is becoming more like her. Both the costume designers for the show have talked about dressing Callie in clothing reminiscent to Jackie’s so I think it’s likely the association with butterflies is intentional (as least to the extent of maybe connecting the two).

In an interview with Fashionista Marie Schley said that teen Jackie and Shauna’s butterfly shirts were picked due to the popularity of similar shirts in the 90s but also because it ties the girls to the wilderness with it’s “natural themes.” Could the butterfly motif on Callie be connecting her not only to Shauna and Jackie but to also connecting her to the Wilderness itself? Does the hint of butterflies in her wardrobe show that somehow on some minute level she carries a piece of the Wilderness with her?
