i am so sorry i am late BUT i generally avoid s2 ep 14 up until s2 ep 20 because then it is pretty much resolved ❤️ i have literally never watched any of the episodes in between because i am too much of a baby and i would not blame you for avoiding them either because spencer !! suffers !!

I knew it was weird.
Halloween wasn't a holiday that you didn't celebrate. Everyone celebrated it. Except me apparently. My parents felt it was rude to knock on people's doors and beg for food. I wasn't even allowed a costume. Showing up to school in an orange hoodie was the closest I got to the experience of Halloween. It got better as I got older when trick or treating was considered "lame" and Halloween was just an excuse to get wasted. I could handle that. Until I started dating Spencer.
"What do you mean you've never celebrated Halloween?!" My boyfriend stares at me incredulously and I can only nervously smile.
"I don't know! My parents never took me trick or treating and then I got too old and just...never got around to it?" My excuse does nothing for Spencer's shock as he stares at me.
"That's-that's insane! It's ranked number 9 of most popular holidays in the world! How could you have not celebrated it!" I can't help but get weirdly defensive at his reaction. It wasn't THAT big of a deal.
"Well, I'm sorry Spencer. I'm sorry that while everyone got to go out and dress up and eat candy I sat in my room alone reading a book. My bad." I get up from his couch but he grabs my arm before I can walk away.
"No-no babe I'm-I'm sorry! I wasn't thinking!" He stands to his full height in front of me. I stubbornly don't look at him but give in when he cups my chin.
"I really am sorry. I was just confused. It really is such a fun holiday that I just...can't believe you never got to experience it?" He frowns in sympathy and I nod.
"It's okay though. I don't really mind anymore," I try to reassure him but he doesn't drop the frown.
"Right..."
Spencer has been acting weird. I know he loves Halloween but it almost seemed as if he had no plans at all for it. I had asked him about it a couple times but he had simply brushed me off, mumbling something about crime rates spiking on Halloween night and how he would probably be working.
I can't help but feel a little disappointed. He had talked about the holiday so much that I got incredibly excited for it, plus spending it with him would have made it even more magical.
I continued to overthink as I slid my key into my apartment door. I had planned to go to Spencer's but now it seemed like he didn’t want my inexperience to put a damper on his Halloween plans. I swing the door open and jump a little at the site.
“Surprise!!” My boyfriend jumps out of nowhere, decked out in a Frankenstein mask.
“What-what is all this?” My eyes wander around my darkened apartment, lit only by jack o lanterns, string lights, and the tv.
“It’s your very first Halloween! I wanted it to be special” Spencer smiles shyly as he heads over to me, taking my bag and jacket.
“I even got you a costume!!” He hands me a very cute Princess Peach’s dress with a tiara to match. I look down and realize he’s dressed as Mario, swapping out the hat for his rubber mask.
“Is this what you’ve been doing all month?!” Relief is coursing through my body. I had practically convinced myself he was breaking up with me.
“Well yeah! I can’t exactly carve this many pumpkins in one night!” He giggles, oblivious to the relief on my face.
“I thought you were breaking up with me!!” His jaw drops at this, shaking his head vigorously.
“What?! No!! I just wanted to make this perfect! It took a lot of planning you know! And I had to make it a surprise which meant I had to do it in secret but I hate keeping secrets from you so I also had to tell the truth but I didn’t wanna ruin the surprise so I just avoided you which I hated even more than keeping secrets but-“
“Baby?”
“Y-yeah?”
“Thank you for my surprise. I love it” He grins in response, tackling me in a hug and spinning me around.
"Okay! Well we've got candy and movies but you have to put your costume on first!!" He hands me the fluffy pink dress with an excited grin and I laugh as I take it.
"Of course! Who knew my first Halloween costume would be a couples costume?" I smile at him and head into my bedroom to change.
The silly smile never leaves my face as I get dressed. I honestly couldn't believe that this was happening. Spencer had always seemed to good to be true but I never fully grasped just how insanely thoughtful he was.
I settle the tiara into my hair and quickly do some Princess Peach inspired makeup to fully complete the look. I can't help but do an excited little spin in the mirror before bouncing down the hall.
"God you look...perfect" Spencer's eyes are wide as he takes me in, his hand resting on his chest in shock.
"My first Halloween costume looks pretty good don't you think?" He nods eagerly in response and sticks his arms out for me. I tackle him on the couch and he happily accepts it.
"We still have plenty of Halloween movies to watch! And I got a whole bunch of candy so we could trade!" His whole body is practically filled to the brim with excitement and I mirror it.
"Yeah? What movie are we starting with?" He unpauses the tv and the intro to a movie begins to play.
"It's Hocus Pocus! We gotta start there!" He passes me a bowl of candy and drapes a pumpkin covered blanket over my shoulders. I lay down on his lap and grin as the movie starts.

okay i've always skipped the middle of s2 because of spencer's revelations arc and i'm on my lunch break (which finishes in 10 mins) and started watching 2x14 (the big game) not realising the arc started this episode and i've JUST FINISHED it and the next ep is revelations and 🥲🥲🥲 3 & a half hours of pain only to be followed by more pain when i actually do finish and see the episode 🥲
