         she’s  pacing  throughout  the  red  keep  ,  wondering  when  they’ll  be  allowed  to  return  home  and  looking  forward  to  the  day  .  it’s  ridiculous  that  because  cowards  in  masks  decided  to  murder  several  unimportant  people  they’re  now  trapped  in  the  insufferable  capital  .  that’s  not  a  good  enough  reason  for  her  to  be  kept  in  the  company  of  sheep  .  tension  heavy  in  her  shoulders  ,  cerissa  practically  marches  through  the  gardens  ,  unintentionally  spooking  another  guest  .  in  truth  ,  she  really  doesn’t  care  how  anyone  else  responds  to  her  presence  and  perhaps  people  paying  attention  would  have  prevented  the  attack  itself  .  regardless  ,  rissa  puts  on  a  smile  and  forces  laughter  which  would  simply  appear  as  awkward  to  anyone  else  .   ❝   no  need  to  apologize  ,  my  lady  ,  i’m  sure  the  nerves  of  many  are  on  high  alert  .   ❞

          though  the  attack  had  worried  and  terrified  others  ,  cerissa  had  managed  to  escape  the  evening  without  even  a  slight  gasp  .  blade  had  fought  off  attackers  and  gained  a  few  superficial  wounds  but  besides  that  ,  those  they’d  lost  had  been  strangers  to  the  lady  lannister  .  the  most  upsetting  part  was  she’d  missed  the  meteor  shower  with  all  the  distractions  .   ❝   you  know  they  didn’t  plan  that  ,  right  ?  or  ...  i  don’t  think  they  did  .   ❞   she  wasn’t  about  to  give  their  hosts  any  credit  .  cerissa  gives  a  grin  and  a  shrug  .   ❝   they’re  still  boring  .   ❞

          what  happened  at  the  ball  made  him  more  upset  than  angry  .  he  couldn’t  muster  up  any  energy  to  be  angry  .  his  family  and  children  were  safe  ,  as  selfish  as  that  was  ,  which  was  rhys’  number  one  priority  .  when  reila  became  a  targaryen  ,  rhys  had  never  stopped  to  consider  how  much  potential  danger  she  could  be  putting  herself  in  ...  but  if  anyone  was  to  be  protected  in  all  of  westeros  it  would  surely  be  house  targaryen  ,  right  ?  maybe  that’s  why  the  other’s  words  make  him  so  uneasy  .   ❝   a  good  point  ...  if  it’s  not  too  much  to  ask  ,  perhaps  they  could  also  be  trained  to  use  them  properly  ?   ❞   he  shrugs  ,  giving  another  critique  because  if  they  were  offering  suggestions  for  increasing  the  safety  of  his  sister  then  rhys  wanted  a  chance  .  the  last  thing  he  wants  to  do  is  discuss  the  blame  and  increase  irritation  among  others  so  instead  ,  he  attempts  to  steer  the  conversation  elsewhere  without  changing  the  topic  entirely  .   ❝   your  anger  seems  like  someone  who  was  affected  personally  ...  are  your  loved  ones  safe  ?   ❞

          the  attack  was  only  another  reminder  that  no  matter  where  any  of  them  were  in  any  part  of  westeros  ,  they  were  never  truly  safe  .  he  worries  greatly  for  the  safety  of  his  family  and  children  ,  especially  now  that  they’ve  been  demanded  to  stay  until  the  culprit  is  found  -  but  how  long  would  that  take  ?   ❝   oh  ,  no  ,  i’m  usually  the  last  to  know  about  gossip  .   ❞   the  attack  was  hardly  mere  gossip  but  if  they  wouldn’t  explain  petty  rumors  to  him  ,  an  investigation  would  never  reach  his  ears  .  for  the  best  ,  really  ,  since  he  had  much  else  to  be  concerned  about  .  though  rhys  has  his  doubts  about  justice  being  achieved  ,  he  nods  in  agreement  .   ❝   myself  and  my  house  are  well  ,  my  lady  ,  i  hope  the  same  can  be  said  of  yours  .   ❞

          she  had  never  intended  to  fall  for  him  .  cerissa  had  wanted  to  stay  the  night  a  few  times  and  be  on  her  way  ,  but  she  had  developed  feelings  and  then  soon  they  were  betrothed  .  it  was  only  when  she’d  gotten  excited  about  the  prospect  of  becoming  princess  that  suddenly  rhaegar  was  calling  the  whole  thing  off  -  for  someone  else  .  her  chin  had  never  dropped  and  she  went  back  to  casterly  rock  like  nothing  had  bothered  her  ...  but  he’d  broken  her  heart  .  seeing  him  again  was  painful  enough  but  if  he  was  interested  in  a  friendship  ,  he’d  only  be  disappointed  .  a  lot  of  opportunities  had  been  stolen  from  her  when  she  lost  their  betrothal  and  cerissa  had  no  intention  of  releasing  any  of  that  resentment  .   ❝   the  least  of  your  intentions  ,  i’m  sure  .   ❞   she  parrots  ,  unsure  whether  to  be  offended  of  his  act  as  if  they’re  strangers  now  .  they’re  not  anything  but  strangers  seems  somehow  worse  .  all  she  can  do  it  respond  accordingly  .   ❝   oh  how  kind  of  you  ,  your  grace  ,   ❞   her  voice  drips  with  sarcasm  but  anyone  passing  by  could  mistake  the  tone  for  a  welcome  sentiment  .  there’s  a  quick  pause  and  she  sighs  .   ❝   i’m  fine  .  you  can  go  now  .   ❞

          every  event  had  its  own  appeal  -  almost  like  a  game  of  sorts  .  sometimes  cerissa  would  enjoy  dancing  with  a  particular  partner  or  perhaps  the  night  had  become  so  boring  that  she  would  sneak  away  with  someone  else  .  the  ball  could  go  either  way  at  this  point  in  the  evening  but  she  didn’t  have  her  hopes  up  for  anything  worthwhile  .   ❝   i  have  not  .   ❞   she  echoes  with  a  grin  .  cerissa  watches  the  other  go  first  ,  listening  to  their  review  before  diving  in  out  of  curiosity  .  normally  she  preferred  salty  over  sweet  ,  feeling  like  her  teeth  would  disintegrate  if  whatever  she  was  eating  was  too  sweet  .  the  dessert  is  quite  sweet  but  it’s  good  -  something  she  could  eat  once  and  then  no  more  .   ❝   a  bit  too  sweet  without  enough  flavor  for  me  ,  but  i  can  understand  why  someone  would  like  it  .  i  like  salty  or  tart  desserts  ,  like  citrus  .   ❞

          there’s  a  quick  chuckle  to  accompany  her  teasing  ,  though  he  suddenly  prays  to  the  gods  he  hasn’t  said  something  to  someone  of  high  importance  .   ❝   well  ,  my  lady  ,  who  is  your  mother  ?   ❞   rhys  grins  back  ,  curious  but  desperate  to  move  on  in  the  conversation  .  he  just  wants  to  be  able  to  speak  to  someone  without  kissing  arses  or  lying  about  houses  he’s  never  once  met  .  an  honest  bit  of  small  talk  is  all  he’s  after  .  he  notices  her  cautious  gaze  and  follows  ,  glancing  around  their  proximity  to  see  if  her  words  indeed  will  be  the  truth  .  thankfully  they  seem  to  be  secluded  where  they  are  ,  hushed  words  hidden  from  any  who  linger  near  .   ❝   i  cannot  imagine  having  this  many  people  in  your  home  ...  my  sister  recently  married  into  the  family  and  i’m  sure  she’s  thrilled  about  the  new  company  .   ❞   now  he  teases  in  a  light  tone  ,  knowing  reila  is  not  the  extroverted  princess  type  .  he  would  think  that’d  be  apart  of  her  charm  to  those  of  westeros  as  a  princess  ,  though  ,  to  be  relatable  to  her  people  .   ❝   it  appears  we  do  .   ❞   he  smiles  ,  finally  looking  directly  back  at  his  company  .   ❝   my  name  is  rhys  ,  by  the  way  -  rhys  manderly  .   ❞

          his  wife’s  passing  was  hard  on  the  children  ,  as  he  had  expected  .  rhys  had  secluded  himself  away  in  white  harbor  after  they  lost  wylla  and  though  he  wanted  to  distance  himself  from  everyone  ,  he  knew  his  girls  needed  him  .  he  wanted  to  be  able  to  take  care  of  all  three  of  them  by  himself  but  he  can  barely  answer  questions  when  they  ask  for  his  advice  .  their  septa  had  been  a  great  help  ,  someone  they’d  had  in  their  house  for  years  and  rhys  trusted  her  completely  with  his  daughters  .   ❝   they’re  not  used  to  traveling  so  far  from  home  ...  or  at  all  ,  actually  .   ❞   the  twins  had  traveled  as  babes  but  tobin  had  never  left  white  harbor  .  he’d  felt  bad  ,  dragging  them  all  this  way  ,  but  had  hoped  maybe  the  festivities  would  increase  their  moods  or  distract  them  at  the  very  least  .   ❝   it’s  a  difficult  adjustment  for  them  ,  to  say  the  least  ...  and  i  have  three  of  them  .   ❞

          she’s  always  told  maesters  that  the  source  of  all  her  headaches  have  always  been  her  brothers  .  cerissa  will  always  remain  loyal  to  them  and  their  house  but  by  the  gods  ,  men  really  did  test  her  patience  .  her  favorite  brother  admittedly  bounces  around  from  time  to  time  and  she  never  hesitates  to  vocalize  which  one  has  gained  brother  of  the  month  .   ❝   evening  ,  blade  ,   ❞   the  most  likely  to  be  fighting  their  way  out  of  a  bit  of  trouble  ,  cerissa  usually  starts  with  the  youngest  when  searching  for  excitement  .   ❝   what  have  you  been  up  to  ?  hopefully  not  making  more  bastards  than  the  amount  i’m  sure  you’ve  already  got  by  now  .   ❞

          though  the  task  would  prove  fruitless  ,  she  had  done  her  best  to  avoid  house  targaryen  altogether  .  what  she  once  saw  as  a  powerful  house  was  now  soiled  in  its  image  ,  a  disappointment  to  not  only  her  but  their  people  -  not  that  she  cared  ,  but  their  desperation  for  peace  was  not  something  she  saw  as  respected  .  when  you  rule  westeros  ,  you  shouldn’t  have  to  show  your  belly  and  lay  down  while  foolish  northerners  invade  your  home  ...  but  then  again  ,  their  prince  is  married  to  one  ,  so  perhaps  their  loyalties  have  changed  now  .  the  hatred  she  felt  for  him  when  he  left  her  for  a  northern  witch  raged  as  his  silhouette  came  into  view  .   ❝   do  you  find  pleasure  in  making  me  miserable  ,  your  grace  ?  there  is  nothing  i  wish  to  say  to  you  .   ❞

          she’s  watching  out  at  the  crowd  ,  surveilling  all  they  don’t  know  that  surround  them  .  most  of  them  stink  of  either  desperation  or  piss  and  cerissa  finds  the  lot  of  them  pathetic  .  there’s  a  lord  striking  up  a  conversation  with  a  woman  she  recognizes  as  a  lady  in  waiting  ,  the  colors  on  his  cloak  giving  him  away  as  a  northerner  .  cerissa  is  in  the  middle  of  laughing  at  his  misfortune  when  she’s  joined  by  a  welcomed  face  ,  someone  who  will  hopefully  bring  excitement  to  her  night  .   ❝   lady  fowler  ,  you  just  missed  it  -  one  of  the  northern  fools  just  made  a  show  of  himself  .   ❞

          ❝   tobin  ,  where  is  your  septa  ?   ❞   he  questions  as  rhys  leans  down  to  his  youngest  daughter’s  height  .  if  the  twins  are  no  where  to  be  seen  then  they’re  ultimately  safe  and  lord  manderly  already  has  a  theory  as  to  why  his  youngest  became  separated  .  the  guilt  would  eat  him  alive  to  send  her  back  into  the  arms  of  a  staff  member  and  so  he  reaches  out  to  pull  tobin  into  his  own  .  she  immediately  sinks  her  face  into  his  neck  and  rhys  stands  up  again  ,  his  daughter  now  attached  at  the  hip  .  he  can  feel  eyes  on  him  as  he  turns  to  face  nearby  company  .   ❝   have  you  been  standing  there  long  ?   ❞   a  bit  embarrassed  ,  he  tries  to  chuckle  .  ❝   she  gets  tired  quickly  ,  there’s  a  lot  of  new  excitement  .   ❞

          targaryen  guards  lead  him  down  a  hallway  and  to  a  room  where  he’s  told  rhaegar  is  ,  a  knock  at  the  door  with  a  few  words  spoken  first  .  rhys  waits  patiently  and  then  enters  ,  a  grin  already  plastered  onto  his  face  .  ❝   prince  rhaegar  ,   ❞   lord  manderly  bows  his  head  and  takes  a  quick  glance  around  the  room  to  make  sure  his  sister  is  no  where  to  be  seen  .  he  wants  to  have  a  conversation  with  his  brother  in  law  and  an  honest  one  at  that  .   ❝   my  apologies  for  bothering  you  ,  but  i  was  wondering  if  i  could  perhaps  have  a  word  ?   ❞

          the  meteor  shower  interests  him  a  great  deal  -  but  he  wishes  he  could  enjoy  the  event  without  a  crowd  of  strangers  around  him  .  his  ability  to  branch  out  and  carry  on  conversations  with  people  he’s  never  met  before  has  all  but  dried  up  for  the  evening  ,  needing  to  either  be  by  himself  or  with  those  who  won’t  exhaust  him  .  he’s  stood  off  to  the  side  ,  taking  a  few  steps  forward  to  stand  next  to  brandon  .  a  fake  smile  is  flashed  to  those  who  walk  by  but  it  fades  as  soon  as  they’re  gone  .   ❝   enjoying  yourself  ,  my  lord  ?   ❞
