erik   had   not   been   around   emotion   in   a   very   long   time.   he   was   sure   the   last   time   he   felt,   even   a   little,   emotion   was   the   day   his   father   died.   the   memory   was   a   hazy   one,   the   edges   of   it   morphing   between   bright   colors   and   black.   he   had   been   at   his   father’s   side,   his   hands   at   his   sides   as   he   looked   down   to   the   elder   lannister.   he   remembered   thinking   he   should   be   sad,   but   how   could   one   be   sad   when   the   pebble   in   their   shoe   was   finally   going   to   be   deposited.   those   thought   had   glee   running   through   his   veins,   his   fingers   having   to   claw   to   contain   the   feelings   of   it   all.   it   wasn’t   until   the   elder   had   taken   their   last   breath   that   erik   let   out   a   breath   of   his   own.   it   day   had   finally   come,   and   erik   had   never   felt   more   alive.   he   had   turned   from   his   father’s   bedside,   and   never   looked   back.   there   had   been   no   tears,   only   erik   wiping   away   a   fake   tear   at   the   funeral.   and   now   seeing   the   princess   laying   down   openly   weeping   made   erik   uncomfortable.   should   he   wipe   away   the   tears?   try   and   give   her   words   of   soliace?   or   stay   silent?   erik   had   no   idea   which   was   the   better   choice.   he   was   so   deep   into   those   question,   he   did   not   even   think   to   make   a   note   of   the   dissapoint   she   spoke   about.   what   was   happening   to   the   starks?   was   their   foundation   falling   apart?   

“you   are   being   dramatic,”   erik   finally   said,   letting   out   a   sigh   of   relief   seeing   his   shirt   soaking   up   less   and   less   blood.   “you   have   not   dissapointed   anyone.   it   is   not   has   if   you   went   to   the   ball   in   the   hopes   someone   would   stab   you,   you   had   no   idea   about   the   events   of   the   night.”   his   eyes   flicked   up   to   the   face   of   amelira   before   he   stood   himself,   needing   to   stretch   his   back   and   legs.   “no   one   is   dying,   espcially   not   you.   the   bleeding   has   stopped.”

at   her   words   erik   nodded.   no   one   needed   to   see   him   shirtless,   or   her   in   such   a   state.   he   bent   down,   scooped   the   princess   into   his   arms   and   down   the   hall   erik   started,   his   steps   gentle   as   he   tried   not   to   move   her   too   much.   “i   am   no   healer,   but   i   do   believe   you   still   make   a   full   recovery.   the   wound   did   not   look   too   deep.   the   blood   made   it   seem   worst   than   it   was.”   or   at   least   erik   hoped,   he   did   not   need   a   stark   princess   dying   on   his   count.

there  had  been  no  hesitation  in  her  expressed  reaction,  a  brow  raised  towards  the  lannister  lord,  but  she  could  say  nothing  to  him  at  the  moment.  the  injury  alone  had  been  enough  for  her  to  be  taken  aback  and  left  speechless,  let  alone  him  calling  her  dramatic  for  the  disappointment  she  felt  her  family  would  have  for  her.  she  had  not  fully  believed  the  lannister’s  somewhat  comforting  words,  words  that  said  she  would  live,  for  what  honesty  did  he  give  her  in  their  previous  conversations?  

it  was  not  until  she  was  in  his  arms,  deep  breaths  inhaled  and  exhaled  to  calm  herself  down  even  if  it  were  the  smallest  amount  of  calm  she  could  suffice  for  the  moment.  ❝ i  would  like  for  you  to  know,  lord  lannister,  that  i  am  not  dramatic, ❞  her  tone  still  weakened  as  she  spoke,  but  her  arms  gripped  tighter  around  his  neck,  holding  onto  him  as  if  she  might  have  fallen  from  his  arms.  but  there  it  had  been,  the  same  lord  she  had  spoken  to  only  hours  prior,  the  egotistical  lord  with  such  an  attitude  to  beheld.  

she  was  still unsure  of  how  true  his  words  were,  but  it  had  been  a  common  theme  that  the  stark  princess  did  not  believe  the  words  of  another,  unless  it  were  her  siblings  or  father.  even  then  she  had  learned to  take  their  words  with  just  a  grain  of  salt,  and  not  more  than  what  met  the  eye.  ❝ i  do  not  take  you  for  a  healer,  but  i  will  not  allow  your  help  to  go  unnoticed. ❞  and  it  was  only  truthful  from  amelira.  many  had  passed  her  as  she  lay  on  the  ground,  wanting  to  only  help  themselves  to  get  away  from  the  attackers.  just  as  she  had  been  trying  to  do.  ❝ unless  that  will  only  cause  your  ego  to  grow,  then  perhaps  i  will  allow  your  assistance  to  go  unnoticed. ❞  and  even  with  the  overwhelming  pain  that  she  had  felt,  the  dizziness  that  went  to  her  head  with  every  swift  movement,  she  would  continue  to  weakly  bite  back  at  the  lion.

in  the  days  since  the  attack,  king’s  landing  was  in  a  state  of  panic  but  aiyla  got  her  wish,  she  did  not  have  to  return  home  to  the  twins  yet.    seeing  the  princess  in  the  gardens  brought  a  smilrk  to  the  lady’s  lips,  easing  into  a  friendlier  smile  as  she  picked  up  her  daughter  and  walked  over.    of  course  amelira  was  heavily  guarded  with  many  ladies  at  her  side  should  she  need  help  but  as  the  two  hit  it  off  earlier  in  the  ball,  she  was  allowed  through  and  took  a  seat.    ❝  i’m  glad  to  see  you  out  and  about,  princess.    i  wanted  to  introduce  you  to  my  daughter,  dilan.  ❞    after  giving  a  shy  wave,  the  young  girl  slid  under  the  table  to  play  with  her  doll  on  her  own,  leaving  aiyla  with  some  time  with  the  princess.    ❝  how  are  you  feeling?  ❞

ever  since  the  attack,  the  injuries  that  the  stark  princess  took,  her  guards  had  been  at  their  most  secure.  more  being  brought  to  her  presence  to  do  even  the  simplest  of  things.  despite  the  fact  that  she  had  felt  so  closed  in,  she  could  not  defy  her  father’s  requests.  there  was  a  smile  that  curved  weakly  onto  her  lips  as  she  saw  the  lady  approaching  her.  harriet  laid  next  to  her,  her  hand  petting  the  wolf  gently  as  to  calm  the  pup  from  being  startled  by  the  presence  of  another.  ❝  lady  frey,  it  is  such  an  honor  to  meet  lady  dilan,  ❞   amelira  waved  back  to  the  young  girl,  her  smile  growing  wider.  she  had  always  had a  soft  spot  for  children,  wishing  for her  own  someday  soon.  or  perhaps  her  siblings  would  beat  her  to  it.  ❝  i  am  feeling  quite  well.  after  all,  i  am  a  wolf,  i  am  not  as  weak  as  some  might  think  i  am. ❞  she  remarked,  eyes  glancing  down  to  her  wolf  before  looking  back  to  the  lady  before  her.   ❝  those  of  your  house  are  well,  yes?  ❞

        his  arms  immediately  wrapped  around  her,  utterly relieved that she was alright. he hardly noticed nor cared how the hug made his own wound’s pain increase. the maester had assured him that amelira would heal, but it was only now that he saw her, alive and standing, with his own eyes that his worries quieted.         ❝  don’t cry, lira.  ❞        neither of his sisters could do anything wrong in his eyes. they had always been far better in near every regard than he.         ❝  what happened wasn’t your fault.  ❞        harry had plenty of rage for the woman who was responsible for his sister’s wound, but now wan’t the time for anger. not when his needed her big brother.         ❝  and all that matters is that you are alive.  ❞

the  words  of  her  brother  had  pulled  some  of  the  weight  of  the  burden  she  felt  off  of  her  shoulders,  but  she  could  not  help  but  to  feel  that  it  had  been  purely  her  own  fault.  ❝  i  just  cannot  shake  the  feeling  that  i  have  disappointed  you,  or  even  father.  ❞  a  heavy  sigh  followed  her  words,  a  hand  going  to  wipe  what  tears  fell  onto  her  cheeks  away.  ❝   alexia,  is  she  okay  as  well?  and  ravella?  i  have  not  had  the  chance  to  check  on  them,  but  the  maesters  say  that  they  are  both  well. ❞  and  amelira  had  chosen  not  to  believe  them,  or  not  at  least  until  she  was  able  to  see  them  for  herself.  

             smile  firm  on  her  lips  as  the  stark  spoke,  alys  inclined  her  head  in  acknowledgment.  had  she  been  around  for  the  end  of  the  draconidis  she  may  have  felt  differently  about  the  state  of  the  starks,  but  the  seeds  had  been  sowed  long  ago,  growing  steadily  even  if  alys  had  not  wished  for  them  to.  “  oh  ?  did  you  find  a  nobleman  to  waltz  you  into  the  night  ?  ”  she  asked,  smile  growing  wider  and  dimpling  her  cheeks.  much  of  her  time  had  been  on  the  outskirts  of  the  ball,  watching  over  torrhen  and  once  he  had  been  ready  to  retire,  she  had  as  well.  many  things  had  been  missed  during  the  ball,  and  any  kernels  of  information  no  matter  how  small  interested  her.  “  it  is  then  even  more  unfortunate  for  the  attack  to  have  happened.  i  can  not  recall  the  last  that  you  mentioned  a  nobleman  of  any  sort.  is  he  handsome  ?  ”

❝ it  was  more  that  i  found  a  nobleman  to  carry  my  injured  self  to  safety. ❞  the  princess  had  not  much  to  speak  of,  other  than  the  lannister  lord  that  aided  her  after  being  struck  by  the  sword  of  a  greyjoy.  she’d  never  been  one  for  gossip  or  talking  much  of  herself,  and  if  the  pain  hadn’t  struck  her  side  with  slight  movements  and  laughter,  she  would  have  been  able  to  offer  the  lady  a  laugh.  ❝ because  most  noblemen  tend  to  strike  a  nerve  with  me,  i  can  only  listen  to  their  own  self-interest  for  so  long  before  i  grow  bored, ❞  amelira  rolled  her  eyes  at  the  very  thought.  ❝ is  he  handsome?  yes.  but  his  ego  far  outweighs  that.   ❞

when  faced  with  princess  amelira  ,  he  can  see  why  his  house  had  sacrificed  so  much  of  their  own  for  the  starks  .  there  was  a  loyalty  to  the  wolves  that  lived  deep  within  him  ,  stirred  by  her  injured  condition  .  rickard  simply  nods  in  response  ,  and  he  matches  her  feeble  smile  with  one  of  his  own  until  hers  falls  ,  upon  which  he  is  grateful  for  the  chance  to  wipe  the  hint  of  fabricated  happiness  off  of  his  features  .  “  you  have  no  reason  to  be  upset  with  yourself  ,  your  highness  .  if  your  family  expects  you  to  defend  yourself  ,  they  should  arm  you  .  you  should  be  armed  .  along  with  princess  alexia  and  harrion’s  wife  .  king’s  landing  is  not  winterfell  .  ”  he  means  this  in  earnest  ,  for  even  as  his  house’s  long  standing  relationship  with  the  starks  begins  to  rift  ever  so  slightly  ,  he  cannot  bear  the  thought  of  women  he  had  seen  grow  up  slain  in  southern  combat  .  as  it  is  ,  amelira  forced  to  resort  to  help  from  a  southern  lord  leaves  a  bitter  taste  on  his  tongue  .  “  the  grejoys  are  heedless  folk  .  ”  rickard  notes  ,  crossing  his  arms  over  his  chest  .  the  word  that  kaelys  greyjoy  had  been  the  one  to  incapacitate  amelira  had  descended  upon  the  red  keep  like  a  blizzard  unforeseen  ,  for  even  rickard  had  not  been  successful  in  avoiding  the  gossip  .

she  could  only  imagine  how  the  houses  surrounding  house  stark  viewed  them  now.  weak  and  defenseless,  two  princesses  and  a  prince  unable  to  protect  themselves  and  dealing  with  the  consequences.  regardless  of  the  support  that  was  given  from  the  northerner’s  that  passed  through,  she  could  not  help  but  to  think  it  was  all  just  driven  by  a  guilt  that  they  might  have  felt.  ❝ i  am  trained  with  a  sword,  though  that  training  is  quite  useless  being  unarmed.  perhaps  my  father  will  see  that  for  the  future,  my  sister,  ravella,  and  i  are  armed  when  need  be,  ❞  she  could  not  have  agreed  more  with  the  lord,  even  if  perhaps  her  injuries  would  have  been  the  same  regardless  of  having  a  sword  on  her  or  not.  ❝ as  much  as  my  family  would,  i’m  sure,  like  to  retaliate  against  them,  we  are  to  keep  the  peace.  i  am  not  usually  an  vengeful  woman,  but  my  dearest  cousin  has  riled  me  up  quite  a  bit.  ❞  she  could  not  help  but  to  think  that  if  the  roles  had  been  reversed,  if  the  greyjoys  would  have  broken  the  peace  already.  

❝  i  base  my  assumptions  on  other’s  actions  and  all  i  have  to  go  off  of  are  your  actions  from  last  night.    you  could  not  even  pretend  to  be  happy  about  our  engagement.    do  you  blame  me  for  my  hesitation?  ❞    she  wanted  this  as  little  as  he  did  but  she  tried  her  best  to  at  least  be  respectful  in  the  presence  of  others.    ❝  an  elaborate  plan?,  ❞  she  asks,  breathing  out  a  laugh.    ❝  i  guess  only  time  will  tell.  ❞    there’s  some  cheekiness  in  her  tone,  an  obvious  joke  as  it  isn’t  common  for  melina  to  ever  think  with  malice.    entering  back  into  the  holdfast,  mel  let’s  her  arm  fall  from  blade’s,  stopping  once  in  a  more  secluded  hall.    ❝  did  your  brother  ask  you  to  come  see  me?,  ❞  she  asks  rather  bluntly.    he  could  very  well  lie  but  he  didn’t  seem  to  be  good  at  it  so  melina  decided  to  take  her  chances,  wondering  if  this  was  just  another  instance  of  her  being  handled.

❝ i  can  only  say  that  those  are  fair  assumptions  then,  lady  melina, ❞  the  lannister  held  back  another  eye  roll,  as  he  had  not  thought  of  himself  to  be  that  terrible  of  a  person.  ❝ i  do  not  pretend,  pretending  is  child’s  play,  but  i  suppose  it  is  wrong  to  assume  that  everyone  truly  sees  eye  to  eye  with  another. ❞  blade  had  not  been  exactly  sure  what  brought  him  to  pursue  conversation  with  his  betrothed,  whether  it  be  guilt  or  boredom,  or  the  option  that  the  lion  would  choose  to  not acknowledge;  concern  showed  for  another  person.  his  face  immediately  falling  from  the  smug  expression  that  was  seemingly  glued  to  his  face  at  the  mention  of  his  brother.  ❝ my  brother?  lady hightower,  i’m  flattered  that  you  think  i  would  obey  anything  that  my  brother  commands  me.  ❞  

Betha  snorts  at  the  statement.  Barring  the  rare  exception,  the  south  was  filled  with  cowards,  and  they  could  easily  point  to  a  few  houses  within  the  riverlands  that  had  been  easily  willing  to  go  along  with  such  schemes  in  the  past.  “The  southern  nobility  will  be  the  biggest  suspects.  The  snakes  responsible  will  have  already  slithered  their  way  back  to  their  dens,  to  plan  their  next  move.”  She  bristles  at  even  the  name  of  the  ruling  house  of  the  Iron  Islands,  and  even  more  so  at  the  words  of  her  eldest  brother  and  ruling  lord.  “My  lord  brother  states  that  the  matter  is  to  be  left  to  our  uncle,  and  Uncle  Tylon  isn’t  about  to  go  to  war  with  the  Islands  and  be  the  one  to  officially  break  200  years  of  peace.”  Though  they  knew  that  any  words  they  said  to  their  uncle  now  would  be  stubbornly  ignored.  If  one  asked  them,  the  Greyjoys  had  already  declared  war  when  Kaelys  Greyjoy  stabbed  Amelira.  Didn’t  matter  the  circumstances,  a  move  had  been  made  and  blood  drawn.  In  Betha  Tully’s  eyes,  the  peace  had  ended  at  that  moment.  “I’ve  no  doubt  of  that.  Only  fools  refuse  what  honor  demands.”

❝ i  am  a  southerner,  lady  tully.  it  would  be  horrid  for  me  to  speak  ill  of  any  southern  house, ❞  the  now  northern  women  joked,  a  snort-like  laugh  coming  from  the  lady.  it  had  been  one  of  milah’s  favorite  topics,  but  there  had  been  snakes  have  buried  themselves  within  the  safety  of  their  egos  from  house  to  house,  whether  it  had  been  a  northern  or  southern  one.  ❝ i  have  no  doubt  that  the  king  stark  will  make  a  decision  that  benefits  both  his  house  and  the  kingdom.  and  he  will  have  the  support  of  house  bolton  without  hesitation, ❞  she  could  not  imagine  the  wrath  that  they  had  felt,  but  the  tully  lady’s  tone  had  expressed  it  without  ease.  ❝ we  are  surrounded  by  nothing  but  fools.  so  i  would  not  be  in  shock  if  honor  lacks.  ❞

❝  nothing  yet,  my  lady,  ❞  bran  responds  to  the  lady  bolton.    of  course,  he’s  not  really  surprised  that  she  is  questioning  others,  her  interest  in  whispers  prominent  since  they  first  met  when  she  became  a  lady  of  the  north.    ❝  house  reed  was  lucky  and  hopefully  bolton  and  velaryon  were  as  well.  ❞    he  would  be  polite,  she  was  a  northerner  now,  but  that  was  as  far  as  he  went  with  one  from  a  house  so  close  to  the  targaryens.

her  view  towards  bran  was  nothing  short  of  dislike.  her  attempts  in  getting  through  to  the  north’s  master  of  whispers  failing  only  leading  her  to  that  view.  she  would  remain  respectful  of  the  northern  born  lord,  to  prove  her  point  that  she  was  anything  but  a  threat,  regardless  of  how  true  that  had  been.  ❝ as  were  both  houses,  bolton  and  velaryon.  those  of  house  stark  face  a  very  different  fate  of  our  houses.  and  i  may  not  be  a  true  northern  born,  lord  bran,  but  i  value  those  of  house  stark  as  i  would  if  i  were. ❞

as  one  of  the  many  amongst  those  complaining,  ranida  lets  out  a  breathy  laugh,  nodding  in  agreement.    ❝  we  are.  ❞    restless  was  just  one  of  the  many  things  ranida  was  feeling.    ❝  even  more  horrible  because  now  we  can  not  leave.  ❞    maybe  should  have  tried  to  seem  more  remorseful  since  people  did  lose  loved  ones,  but  it  didn’t  seem  as  though  the  other  lady  was  too  broken  up  either.

❝ and  what  a  wonderful  idea  it  is  for  us  to  be  trapped  here.  there  are  more  destructive nobles  than  some  would  like  to  admit, ❞  though,  milah  hadn’t  felt  unsafe,  the  lady  trained  and  knowledgeable  in  defending  herself.  but  she  was  one  of  the  nobles  that  one  could  have  considered  destructive,  the  lady  bolton  was  well  adept  to  hiding  it.  ❝ it  would  have  been  much  safer  to  allow  us  back  to  our  respective  homes,  so  the  complaints  are  very  well-founded. ❞

            the  arryn  narrowly  resisted  the  urge  to  roll  her  eyes,  speculations  and  gossip  of  no  interest  to  her.  unless  there  were  true  facts  presented,  she  had  been  ignoring  much  of  the  chatter  around  her,  annoyed  that  the  worst  fears  from  most  had  been  realized.  “  i  have  not  been  listening,  ”  sharra  answered  honestly.  the  only  thing  she  had  inquired  about  were  her  friends  a nd  their  families,  the  news  that  many  of  the  starks  had  gotten  hurt  in  the  fray  keeping  her  in  a  foul  mood.  “  how,  when  no  one  knows  who  they  are  ?  ”  she  snipped,  though  it  had  nothing  to  do  with  milah  and  only  the  situation  at  hand.  “  my  family  is  fine,  though  there  are  too  many  others  that  are  not  to  rest  easy.  ”

❝ perhaps  it  is  better  not  to  listen, ❞  milah  mused,  her  annoyance  at  lack  of  insight  and  information  from  a  vast  amount  of  people  expanding  and  was  enough  to  make  her  laugh  to  herself.  but  it  was  best  not  to  waste  time  on  lies  and  rumors  that  would  not  aid  in  getting  anywhere. ❝  some  cannot  run  forever,  but  i  do  believe  that  they  will  receive  what  is  coming  for  them  with  time. ❞  it  was  all  a  lie,  that  was  never  how  anything  would  play  out  in  the  end  and  milah  knew  that.  ❝ we  can  only  protect  so  many.  it  is  too  late  to  look  back  on  those  who  suffer. ❞

                  Lale  turns  slightly,  her  own  gaze  had  been  lost  in  the  nothingness  that  was  ahead  of  her,  a  blank  wall  of  the  balcony  were  many  ladies  sat  mingling,  hoping  for  pieces  of  gossip  that  would  aid  them  put  the  puzzle  together.  “not  anything  this  room  has  not  shared  already  in  circles,  i  assure  you.”  not  that  she  would  every  share  had  she  indeed  had  any  knowledge.  “it  will  be  their  only  faith,  i  am  certain,”  she  lies,  but  she  does  it  quite  well,  she  doubted  they  would  ever  find  a  real  culprit,  perhaps  a  scape  goat  at  best,  that  was  if  the  kingdoms  did  not  happened  to  turn  on  each  other  before  that.  “the  sentiments  are  return,  lady  bolton.”

❝ heedless  gossip  is  of  no  help,  a  guessing  game  that  only  leads  to  rumors  and  no  truth, ❞  her  eyes  glancing  over  the  ladies  that  sat  about.  she  had  wished  for  more  than  the  very  surface  of  gossip,  perhaps  wanting  to  find  some  truth,  if  not  about  the  attack,  then  something  that  was  of  importance  and  enough  to  leave  quite  a  shock.  needless  to  say,  the  lady  bolton  felt  she  was  left  unsatisfied.  ❝ if  they  are  never  to  be  captured,  i  am  sure  the  gods  will  be  just  and  take  care  of  them.  with  the  ways  of  recent  events,  i  am  rather  sure  that  whoever  was  responsible  will  be  somewhere  laughing  at  the  rest  of  us,  waiting  to  strike  again. ❞

            with  their  first  mate  by  their  side,  the  aftermath  of  the  ball  had  not  been  as  trying  as  kaelys  had  suspected  it  would  be.  of  course,  she  knew  that  the  stark  king  had  been  furious,  kae’s  nonchalant  reaction  no  doubt  bringing  more ire  to  a  situation  that  their  parents  now  had  to  at  least  pretend  to  give  heed  to.  given  that  three  of  the  stark  children  had  had  some  unfortunnace  happen  to  them,  she  wanted  to  point  out  their  uselessness  as  a  whole,  but  instead  was  in  search  of  one  of  their  family  members.  “  it  is  not  that  big  of  a  place,  ”  she  was  murmuring  aloud,  glancing  over  at  the  sight  of  another.

she  had  been  walking  along,  her  maesters  allowing  her  only  a  short  leisurely  walk,  having  convinced  them  that  it  would  aid  in  her  healing.  amelira  had  been  frozen  in  place  the  moment  she  had  seen  the  greyjoy,  the  last  she  had  seen  them  was  with  their  sword  piercing  into  her  side.  it  was  only  when  the  words  of  her  father  rang  within  her  mind,  that  she  could  not  retaliate  in  whatever  way  she  wanted,  her  expression  shifted  to  a  poker  face.  to  ignore  the  greyjoy  would  have  been  her  better  choice,  but  the  stark  princess  found  herself  having  difficulties  turning  the  other  cheek.  ❝ princess  kaelys, ❞  the  only  two  words  that  she  could  formulate  beyond  wanting  to  scream.  

        The  crown  princess  had  never  been  one  to  entangle  in  whispers  or  gossip,  specially  in  this  subject  she  figured  she  aught  to  remind  as  steady  and  silent  as  a  pillar  while  giving  reassuring  words.  the  king  had  said  it  would  give  her  practice  for  when  her  time  came,  to  take  care  of  all  of  their  people.  “there  is  nothing  to  be  known  at  the  moment  i  am  afraid,  although  all  four  kingdoms  are  investigating  as  much  as  possible.”  she  crosses  her  arms  over  her  chest,  she  knows  lady  bolton’s  harshness  in  her  tone  is  founded.  “by  the  old  gods  i  am  certain  they  will,  lady  bolton.”  she  nods.  although  brutality  has  never  been  something  she  would  condone,  this  would  have  to  be  an  exception.  “we  fair  well,  my  husband  had  an  injury  but  he  shall  recover  well  if  the  gods  allow.”

perhaps  the  crown  princess  was  not  the  correct  person  to  be  trying  to  pry  gossip  from,  for  she  would  one  day  be  the  queen  of  the  north.  if  the  southern  turned  northern  woman  went  any  further,  she  would  not  risk  ruining  anything  that  united  house  bolton  and  house  stark.  ❝ i  do  not  mean  to  pry,  your  grace.  the  flame  has  only  been  ignited  by  unnecessary  violence.  i  am  glad  to  hear  that  as  much  as  possible  is  being  done, ❞  the  lady  bolton  offered  a  smile  to  the  crown  princess.  ❝ i  am  happy  to  know  that  house  stark  have  been  well.  if  the  need  be,  i  would  be  more  than  happy  to  lend  a  helping  hand.  i  may  not  be  northern  born,  but  i  am  northern  at  heart. ❞

erik   tried   to   think   back   to   a   time   where   gore   and   blood   had   happened   in   front   of   his   eyes.   the   thoughts   went   to   the   years   of   training   with   a   sword,   knives   and   arrows.   but   those   had   all   been   in   good   fun   (for   the   most   part)   and   not   of   actual   malice.   his   eyes   searched   for   a   the   source   of   the   blood,   while   his   mind   went   tried   to   think   (shocking)   of   what   to   do   when   he   found   the   source   of   the   trauma.   

his   fingers   searched,   as   his   eyes   stayed   on   the   face   of   amelira.   he   was   nervous   she   would   somehow   bleed   out   before   he   could   help   her,   and   stop   the   bleeding.   finally   his   fingers   seemed   to   find   the   source   of   the   bleeding.   he   pressed   pressure   to   the   source,   and   blood   seemed   to   be   stopping   but   the   streams   coming   out   between   his   fingers   caused   him   alarm.   he   looked   over   his   shoulder   but   the   hallway   was   somehow   still   quiet,   except   that   of   amelira’s   breathing.   his   panic   was   starting   to   rise   in   his   throat.   the   lord   was   used   to   being   able   to   scream   and   yell   until   something   happened.   now   it   was   up   to   him,   and   for   the   first   time   in   his   life   erik   felt   helpless.   finally   he   couldn’t   take   it,   he   rose   and   angrily   pulled   the   fabric   of   his   shirt   over   his   head   and   pressed   it   into   the   wound,   hoping   something   good   would   happen.   

“you   need   to   think   of   yourself   right   now,”   erik   finally   got   out,   remembering   that   she   had   said   something.   but   he   wasn’t   able   to   keep   the   role   of   his   eyes   to   happen.   “what   good   do   you   think   you   are   to   them   or   yourself   right   now?   do   you   wish   to   die   in   front   of   them?   add   more   trauma   to   their   lives?”   

her  eyes  attempting  to  stay  focused  on  the  lannister  lord,  to  keep  herself  from  being  consumed  by the  panic  that  was  altered  by  erik’s  expressions  and  the  pain  that  was  now  coming  in  waves  much  stronger  than  before.  a  hand  reached  forward  as  she  watched  him  move,  thinking  that  she  was  now  to  be  left  alone,  for  someone  else  to  help  her.  her  few  interactions  she  had  with  the  lannister  had  only  influenced  her  to  think  in  such  a  way,  that  he  would  not  be  so  selfless  to  help  in  her  dire  situation.  she  allowed  her  hand  to  fall  back  to  her  side,  wincing  when  the  fabric  came  into  contact  with  her  wound.  she  did  not  want  to  think  of  herself,  it  was  terrifying  to  do  so.  the  princess  was  frightened  of  what  the  outcome  might  be.  and  she  had  thought  it  to  be  selfish  to  worry  for  herself  and  not  for  her  family.  ❝ that  is  my  family,  and  i  must  know  that  they  are  safe.  ❞  though  her  voice  was  weak,  amelira  made  an  attempt  at  defining  her  words,  she  was  annoyed  that  he  would  even  say  such  a  thing.  ❝ they  will  already  be  disappointed  in  me,  i  have  failed  myself  and  my  family.  my  guards  have  failed  me  and  my  family.  i  wanted  to  escape,  but  now  i  don’t  even  know  if  i  will  see  the  morning. ❞  and  with  her  words  came  tears,  tears  for  her  brothers  and  her  sister,  that  she  was  unable  to  help  herself  or  her  siblings.  

but  the very  thought  had  also  brought  some  of  her  strength  back  to  her.  the  pain  had  not  subsided,  nor  did  her  head  feel  less  heavy,  but  she  did  not  want  to  feel  helpless  any  longer.  she  did  not  want  to  feel  at  risk  for  another  attack,  now  having  another  life  at  risk  beside  her.  ❝ help  me  up, ❞  the  soft  voice  demanded.  ❝ an  empty  room,  something  other  than  out  in  the  open.  ❞

perhaps  the  stark  princess  is  a  particularly  caring  person  ,  as  selfless  as  the  model  lady  .  but  with  a  lack  of  sleep  written  across  her  features  that  matches  his  own  ,  and  her  current  condition  ,  rickard  can’t  help  but  wonder  if  she  asks  after  his  house  for  political  reasons  or  personal  ones  .  “  it  wasn’t  any  trouble  .  ”  he  dismisses  her  appreciation  with  an  embarrassed  wave  of  his  hand  ,  shuffling  out  of  the  way  of  a  maester  as  they  bustled  past  ,  likely  inundated  with  work  after  the  previous  night’s  events  .  “  no  ,  none  of  us  were  harmed  .  ”  he  shakes  his  head  ,  gratitude  obvious  in  the  set  of  his  face  .  “  however  ,  i  regret  that  so  many  of  house  stark  were  .  your  guards  seem  to  have  failed  you  ,  your  highness  .  as  have  your  bannermen  .  ”  he  judges  himself  as  well  as  the  starks’  royal  guard  ,  blame  placed  evenly  on  both  ends  of  balanced  scales  .  it’s  not  forgiveness  that  he  seeks  ,  but  simply  her  point  of  view  .  he’s  curious  as  to  who  she  sees  as  responsible  for  her  injuries  ,  so  he  throws  himself  into  the  line  of  fire  in  hopes  of  an  answer  .

the  maesters  that  surrounded  her  and  were  at  her  constant  attention  caused  her  to  roll  her  eyes.  she  had  felt  somewhat  fine,  so  to  the  northern  princess,  it  was  overwhelming  and  overworking  of  the  maesters.  her  exhaustion  had  gotten  the  best  of  her,  her  eyes  drooping  as  she  looked  at  the  lord  karstark.  ❝ it  is  always  great  company  when  it  is  one  from  the  north.  do  not  brush  it  off  as  it  is  nothing,  lord  karstark, ❞  she  offers  a  weak  smile  to  him.  her  face  fell,  the  mention  of  her   guards  who  have  failed  her.  she  felt  she  had  failed  her  family,  but  also  could  not  imagine  the  fire  that  was  lit  within  her  father’s  heart  upon  receiving  the  news  of  her  injury.  ❝ i  do  not  remember  much  from  last  night,  just  that  the  ruling  lord  of  casterly  rock  was  kind  enough  to  step  aside  to  assist  me.  i  am  upset  with  myself,  but  i  can  only  imagine  how  upset  my  father  might  be.  the  events  have  come  in  waves,  not  ones  that  i  remember  very  easily. ❞

melina’s  head  turns  when  someone  appears  beside  her  and  she  fights  an  eye  roll  in  case  anyone  is  looking.    instead,  she  hooks  her  arm  into  blade’s,  giving  him  a  smile  despite  the  glare  into  his  eyes.    ❝  lord  lannister.  ❞    she  hides  her  annoyance  with  playfulness,  making  a  mental  not  to  scold  him  about  her  name  later.    if  not  for  a  similar  visit  from  his  brother,  melina  would  be  surprised  that  blade  was  even  pretending  to  care.    he  did  not  do  a  very  good  job  of  pretending  last  night.    why  now,  all  of  a  sudden?    ❝  i  survived  both,  thanks  to  you.    or  was  your  protection  to  make  up  for  your  drunken  complaining?  ❞    though  she  sounds  to  be  teasing,  her  own  words  get  stuck  in  her  head.    it  was  the  only  plausible  reason,  after  all.

not  that  he  had  much  time  to  process  both  the  betrothal  nor  the  night  before  them,  blade  resisted  the  urge  to  express  disgust  when  melina  hooked  arms  with  him.  ❝ such  a  shame  you  think  so  low  of  me,  lady  hightower.  i  know  that  my  reputation  precedes  me,  but  i  am  not  as  much  of  an  asshole  as  one  says, ❞  his  eyes  rolling.  the  drunken  lannister  was  never  good  at  hiding  his  thoughts  and  feelings,  but  it  was  not  like  the  sober  lannister  was  any  better  at  that.  ❝ i  would  not  allow  you  to  get  hurt,  it’s  not  like  i  have  a  great  hatred  towards  you  or  your  house.  there  is  no  honor  in  allowing  an  innocent  woman  to  be  injured,  unless  you  are  hiding  some  elaborate  plan  up  your  sleeve  and  i  am  blissfully  unaware. ❞
