Happy Pride 2016! The rainbow flag, part of the museum’s design collection, is flying high in our lobby. Gilbert Baker, the flag’s designer, first unveiled it at the United Nations Plaza in downtown San Francisco on this day in 1978. “I will always remember that moment, seeing in people’s eyes—they just owned it,” Baker says. “A flag is not something you design. A flag is something that is torn from the soul of the people."
