Perched high above Singapore, Hillside House by Guz Architects takes full advantage of a challenging hilltop site to create a remarkable multi-generational family home. The residence transforms a steep slope into a series of cascading gardens, pools, terraces, and open-air spaces, all while capturing sweeping views across the city.
The design uses the site’s dramatic elevation to create layers of greenery and water that extend from the ground level all the way to the rooftop. Designed by Farmer Payne Architects with interiors by The Picket Fence Interior Design Studio, White Clouds sits on a double lot along the edge of a golf course in Idaho. From the very beginning, the site’s sloping terrain influenced the design. Instead of resisting the hillside, the home follows it, stepping down across two levels that separate gathering spaces from private areas while maintaining easy connections between them.
What appears modest from the street gradually reveals itself as the land falls away. Views stretch east toward the valley and Proctor Mountain, while the architecture uses the site’s natural contours to organize the home in a way that feels intuitive and efficient -- via contemporist

In Prahran, Victoria, architecture and interior design firm Wood Marsh completed No. 6 Sydney Street, a residential building that blurs the line between architecture and sculpture. It’s a good bet that your first box of crayons or watercolors was a simple affair of six or so colors… just like the palette belonging to Amenemopet, vizier to Pharaoh Amenhotep III (c.1391 — c.1354 BC), a pleasure-loving patron of the arts whose rule coincided with a period of great prosperity.
Amenemopet’s well-used artist’s palette, above, resides in the Egyptian wing of New York City’s Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Over 3000 years old and carved from a single piece of ivory, the palette is marked “beloved of Re,” a royal reference to the sun god dear to both Amenhotep III and Akhenaton, his son and successor, whose worship of Re resembled monotheism -- via Open Culture
