i miss ventress.... the milf of all milfs....
brooding silence had always been her lingua franca. she sits with a glass of whiskey, her hood pulled deeply over her head (a stolen trick from kenobi that she feels no necessity to credit to him). the bar is filthy and grim, fingerprints on the edge of the glass that were certainly not her own, but it granted her a moment of reprieve. it is better to live in sqallour than die in beauty. survival was the only game that mattered to her. a small gesture with her hand has the bartender refilling her glass: she’s a regular here, so she is allowed her silence. perhaps that’s why she grows so tense when someone takes a seat next to her. she leans forward, letting the hood drop further, hoping she is not noticed. @kalesera
jedialone:
𝚃𝙷𝙸𝚂 𝙸𝚂 𝚈𝙴𝚃 𝙰𝙽𝙾𝚃𝙷𝙴𝚁 𝙾𝙲𝙲𝚄𝙿𝙰𝚃𝙸𝙾𝙽𝙰𝙻 𝙷𝙰𝚉𝙰𝚁𝙳 . despite an ache blossoming beneath his skull , he lifts himself half up to look to their new & sudden surroundings . nothing strikes recognition . though , it’s far from the first time he’s found himself without transport , without communication , & without direction . 𝐁𝐔𝐓 𝐍𝐎𝐓 𝐖𝐈𝐓𝐇𝐎𝐔𝐓 𝐇𝐎𝐏𝐄 . never without hope — despite her attempts to sew doubt otherwise . eyes skim to where she stands above him , POISED & PREPARED , then to the saber at her side . 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒏𝒆𝒆𝒅 𝒕𝒐 𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒅𝒚 𝒉𝒊𝒎𝒔𝒆𝒍𝒇 𝒅𝒐𝒆𝒔𝒏’𝒕 𝒔𝒕𝒓𝒊𝒌𝒆 𝒉𝒊𝒎 . no need to try for a battle when they are , not for the first time , both away from the field at the present .
instead , he follows through with pushing himself from the ground ( vertigo hits briefly & causes him to slow . there is , somewhere , a wound beneath his hair that he notes ) & to his feet , absent mindedly dusting away any soil he can . ❛ your concern is touching , darling , but i wouldn’t worry about me . i’ll at least have pleasant company to rot alongside . ❜ tone is smooth & conversational as always . what the order may or may not do to save him is never something he tries to focus on ; 𝙸𝚃 𝙸𝚂 𝚆𝙷𝙰𝚃 𝚃𝙷𝙴𝚈 𝙳𝙾 𝚃𝙾 𝚂𝙰𝚅𝙴 𝙾𝚃𝙷𝙴𝚁𝚂 𝚆𝙷𝙸𝙲𝙷 𝙼𝙰𝚃𝚃𝙴𝚁𝚂 . his self sufficiency has thrived from this thought . gaze turns skyward & one of his hands shields his eyes . the sun of the planet , though still brutally warm , sits not far above the tree line . ❛ i’d say we’ve only a few hours before we run out of daylight . ❜
she almost strikes him down for the pet name, far too familiar on his lips (and she is reminded that they have been allies before, reluctant and dragging their feet, but nevertheless side - by - side: she wonders if this is what hate is supposed to feel like). instead, his comment is rewarded with gritted teeth and the smooth rolling of eyes, a steady list already compiled of how she will pay him back. he does not reach for his saber, but she is not fooled --- she knows what quick ruthlessness lays beneath his skin. she has dueled him enough times to know that he is a most worthy opponent ... and often not as rash as she was. ❛ concern, hatred, intolerance ... call it what you want. ❜ she notices soft flecks of blood wetting his collar, a wound no doubt hidden away behind his hair (she has never been graced with an ability to care for other people, but she recognises how the situation will look if someone finds her with a dead jedi: that cut must be cleaned quickly).
her head jolts upwards, trying to track the sun in the sky. low. he was right. there are worst people to be trapped with, especially considering the rabble that decided to become jedis (she does not trust him, but she is closer to trusting him than anyone else). ❛ if you think i’d let myself rot with you, you’re sorely mistaken. already to be a we, kenobi? someone might think you’ve been waiting for this opportunity. ❜ if she is to be a spider, let her be the queen of spiders. she circles closer, eyes torn between assessing the scenery and focusing on him. ❛ shelter, then, if we’re being wise. i’ve heard you specialise in that. the ship landed that way ... there might be medical supplies in it. ❜ she looks at him, a silent truce buried in her glare.

the weight of bounty hunter is new to her shoulders. her skill set has always been too specific to adjust to any sort of normal life (she would grow bored, too, and she knows that ---- the ugly truth of her existence is that, no matter how hard she tried, she could never be content without the thrill of adrenaline chasing her). loss is still tangible on her tongue. she does not wear it well, erratic and furious beneath the brush of it, which makes bounty hunting easy. killing had become therapeutic: the ruthlessness of it, giving herself over to the drag of a lightsaber, the blood that wet her hands in pulsing reds. even the kidnapping had a certain element of grim glee that accompanied it. she knows these are dire things to delight in. still, she cannot begrudge herself the pleasure of it (selfish and solitary, she cannot deny herself anything anymore).
but her solitude has turned warm and full. there is a little leafling that has found herself stuck to her branches. ahsoka tano was -- a fine china teapot, nursed by the jedi order. accused of bombing a jedi knight’s temple. of course she hadn’t done it: it would be all too interesting if she had committed such an act of brutality. still, she knows the weight of being abandoned by a family. there might be a sweet pity felt for the poor girl, somewhere in the dark recesses of ventress’ heart. the door to their small home is thrown open, stolen food bundled in ventress’ arm. this is a dire, rented place that smells of cobwebs and mold. ‘‘ we’ll have to move soon. i’ve heard jedi are raiding a nearby town. ’’ @commandsir
a newly minted nightsister, she wears the mark of her found family with pride (she has had so little to be proud of in her life that she clings to this with everything she is, everything she could ever be, hungry for the embrace of kinship). the library is expansive and contains many histories, but she is concerned only with the implication of her new family. her fingers twitch across spines, plucking out one coated in red, the velvet bracing soft against her fingers. she notices noise behind her, something akin to footsteps: it would make her tense, if she had not placed her trust in this life. here, she reasoned, nothing could ever try to hurt her again -- not without the sisters intervening in some way. still, she cannot let the noise pass unnoticed. she twists her head over her shoulder, knowing that her lightsaber was resting solidly against her thigh. she was a fighter and a flame all the same, no matter what colours she wore now.
‘‘ maul, ’’ she says. her mouth could never be home to softness, but there is a certain hesitancy in it. she has never seen him before, not outside of a few pictures, but she could make a solid enough guess. there were so few new faces around here. she clutches the book in her hand, letting her eyes drift into lazy shapes. cut - throat, but welcoming. ‘‘ oppress speaks highly of you, ’’ she passes him easily, wondering why he has bothered to come see her. the book requires silence to be enjoyed: he will ruin her privacy. ‘‘ if you’ve come to ask about kenobi, look elsewhere. i know only as much about him as i’m sure you do. ’’ @vengfell
Asajj Ventress my beloved
NIGHT SKY WITH EXIT WOUNDS SENTENCE STARTERS.
all text taken from the poetry book night sky with exit wounds by ocean vuong.
‘ in the body, where everything has a price, i was a beggar. ‘
‘ he was singing, which is why i remember it. his voice — it filled me to the core like a skeleton. ‘
‘ even my name knelt down inside me, asking to be spared. ‘
‘ it is all i remember. ‘
‘ i was alive. i didn’t know there was a better reason. ‘
‘ i lost it all with my eyes wide open. ‘
‘ do you know who i am? ‘
‘ how easily a boy in a dress the red of shut eyes vanishes beneath the sound of his own galloping. ‘
‘ i’m dreaming of a curtain of snow falling from her shoulders. ‘
‘ snow scraping against the window. snow shredded with gunfire. red sky. ‘
‘ show me how ruin makes a home out of hip bones. ‘
‘ let every river envy our mouths. let every kiss hit the body like a season. ‘
‘ if you must know anything, know that the hardest task is to live only once. ‘
‘ if we make it to shore, i will name our son after this water. i will learn to love a monster. ‘
‘ he laughs despite knowing he has ruined every beautiful thing just to prove beauty cannot change him. ‘
‘ hey! you didn’t have to go this far. why did you go so far? ‘
‘ sometimes i feel like an ampersand. ‘
‘ everyone can forget us — as long as you remember. ‘
‘ i hold the gun & wonder if an entry wound in the night would make a hole as wide as morning. ‘
‘ there’s a lighthouse. some nights you are the lighthouse, some nights the sea. ‘
‘ what this means is that i don’t know desire other than the need to be shattered & rebuilt. ‘
‘ even tomorrow you will have today. ‘
‘ you’ll never forget yourself the way god forgets his hands. ‘
‘ the body is a blade that sharpens by cutting. ‘
‘ my mother said i could be anything i wanted — but i chose to live. ‘
‘ i am ready to be every animal you leave behind. ‘
‘ and this is how we loved: a fifth of vodka and an afternoon in the attic, your fingers though my hair — my hair a wildfire. ‘
‘ when our lips touched the day closed into a coffin. ‘
‘ the year is a distance we’ve traveled in circles. ‘
‘ we made it, baby. we’re riding in the back of the black limousine. ‘
‘ i love my country. i pretend nothing is wrong. ‘
‘ i’m holding your still-hot thoughts in, darling, my sweet, sweet ___. ‘
‘ you want to tell him it’s okay that the night is also a grave we climb out of. ‘
‘ you say thank you thank you thank you because you haven’t learned the purpose of forgive me. ‘
‘ you’re so quiet you’re almost tomorrow. ‘
‘ to love another man — is to leave no one behind to forgive me. i want to leave no one behind. ‘
‘ even though he’s gone, i still want to be clean. ‘
‘ if only the rain were gasoline, your tongue a lit match, & you can change without disappearing. ‘
‘ he dies each night you close your eyes & hear his slow exhale. ‘
‘ wait, i have something to say. ‘
‘ as if my finger, tracing your collarbone behind closed doors, was enough to erase myself. ‘
‘ to forget we built this house knowing it won’t last. ‘
‘ it’s funny. i always knew i’d be warmest beside by man. ‘
‘ don’t laugh. just tell me the story again. ‘
‘ speak — until your voice is nothing but the crackle of charred bones. ‘
‘ look how happy we are to be no one & still american. ‘
‘ i’ll tell you how we’re wrong enough to be forgiven/ ‘
‘ say you’d kill for it. ‘
‘ don’t we touch each other just to prove we are still here? ‘
‘ silly me. i thought love was real and the body imaginary. ‘
‘ i said yes because you asked me to stay. ‘
‘ there is so much i want to tell you. how my greatest accolade was to walk across the brooklyn bridge & not think of flight. ‘
‘ you will always remember what you were doing when it hurts the most. ‘
‘ dearest father, forgive me for i have seen. ‘
‘ once, i fell in love during a slow-motion car crash. ‘
‘ i wrote a better hour onto the page & watched the fire take it back. ‘
‘ this means you are not alone. ‘
‘ don’t stay here. don’t cry anymore. ‘
‘ i promise to stop soon. ‘
‘ how come depression makes me feel more alive? ‘
‘ i shouldn’t have, but he had the hands of someone i used to know. someone i was used to. ‘
‘ i dreamed i walked barefoot all the way to your house in the snow. everything was the blue of smudged ink and you were still alive. ‘
‘ here. that’s all i wanted to be. ‘
‘ don’t worry. your father is only your father until one of you forgets. ‘
‘ the end of the road is so far ahead it is already behind us. ‘
‘ don’t be afraid, the gunfire is only the sound of people trying to live a little longer & failing. ‘
‘ remember, loneliness is still time spent with the world. ‘
‘ the difference between prayer & mercy is how you move the tongue. ‘
‘ so what if my feathers are burning. i never asked for flight. ‘

the heat is insufferable : she feels it nip at her pale skin with bloodied fangs, demanding some sort of sun - stroke attack her (she does not give into it, however, not when she has bigger things to deal with). there is a wound across her shoulder, skin - deep for now but time would make it fester with disease -- if she could not find a way to treat it soon. kenobi had not laid these wounds on her. they were the result of the tumble from the spaceship, which laid somewhere in the forest in a ruined heap. the fall had landed them in a sparse circle, polluted by dirt and debris. grass ran a little further ahead and, even further, tall trees that let shadows graze their skin. she had never seen this planet before. pushing herself to her feet, her hand went towards the hilt of her lightsaber.
a cornered animal will always fall back on tried and true tactics. she does not yet unleash her saber, but she eyes kenobi in anticipation (if he decides to strike, he will not have the upperhand). her eyes narrow as she watches him, dark pupils fighting off the warm shock of light. he seems to be recovering just as she is : she scolds her breath into something even and calm. ‘ we seem to be rather far away from anything resembling civilisation. ’ even now, she cannot resist taunting him. she is aware of their situation. stranded, it seems. and yet her mouth still curls around cruelty. ‘ i wonder if your little friends are going to assume you’ve died and leave you here to rot. i wonder how much you’re really worth to your precious order. ’ @jedialone
the hood is made of rough materials, nothing like the flimsy clothes she had once donned : those had been a warrior’s garb (and what is she now, stripped of everything she had once called bravery? cold and hungry and weak in her own skin... that’s what was left of her). it droops over her eyes until her gaze becomes a dark, creeping thing. these alleyways are rife with crime. she had landed on the type of repugnant, backwards planet that would keep her close to harm, but far from the clutches of jedia. no one of repute came here her guard is up, shifting eyes tracking the strangers that plague these streets, glancing sharply as little hands dug into passing pockets. her own hand bats away a child’s wrist, a low hiss sharp on her lips. brat, she cautions, head dipping enough to steady the child with a glare (she offers an apple, like the evil step - mother in some children’s fable, and warns that the officers are out tonight... it does not matter if it is true or not, for being away from the streets is a blessing).
she is so distracted, watching the child scamper away to whatever safety might be found in this den of grime, that she does not notice him. her shoulder bangs clumsily into his body (obi wan is familiar to her as any other nightmare once her head lifts to look at him : her gasp is short lived). she dips her head quickly, hoping that the hood covers most of her face. there are definitive markings across her arms, signs of her race and her ranking curling against her flesh. if he wishes to know her face, he will know it. the thought makes her anxious and warm with spite all at once. what is a jedi doing so far away from anything that resembled polite civilisation? should he not be contenting himself with policy and tea parties? ‘ excuse me, ’ she hummed, pitching her voice into a whisper. it disgusted her to act as a weeping wallflower, but sacrifices must be made : perhaps he will take pity on her and not recognise her face. she already knows what the odds of that are. ‘ i wasn’t looking where i was going, stranger. ’ @wiseknight
this is your opportunity to like for a starter before i never post a call again.
