Absence makes the heart grow fonder
Arthur is not that interesting. At least, thatās what he thinks. Heās an open bookā and heās not the type to keep liaisonsā¦. Until he met you. And suddenly heās riding off to god knows where, as usual, but with a telltale smile on his face that makes people curious.
He feels conflicted, of course. He loves you. He knows the gang isnāt a safe placeā and youāre too sweet to fit in with a bunch of thieves and murderers like themā¦. He thinks itās a miracle that you see anything in him. Thatā and with the increasing instability of it all, Micah whispering in Dutchās ear, the way itās becoming clearer and clearer that these violent delights are going to have violent ends. He doesnāt think the gang is a safe place to be.
Then again, he remembers the last time he left people he was connected toā left them to fend for themselves while he went and played Robin Hood. He had to bury them.
As things escalate within the gang, he also worried about his attachment to you becoming known, and it calling his loyalty into question. He could give less of a damn if Dutch thinks his allegiances lie elsewhereā but he doesnāt want you in the middle of it. Heās afraid of the lengths to which Dutch will go to keep Arthur close.
Back in the day, when he really thought they were all good people, when he thought the gang was the best thing in the world and a force of charity to those who needed it, he wouldāve tried to get you in just as soon as youād shared your first kiss. But the years have washed away the rosy tint on his vision.
A part of him is guilty. Is he just using you for a refuge? A place to go when things finally go past the point of no return? Are you a contingency plan for him?
But part of what keeps him coming back is how you melt those worries away. When heās with you, he canāt bring himself to think of all his troubles. Heās consumed by you and all your radiance. For this Iām imagining reader was like, a member of the gang who drops in on the Marstons. Of course, Jack can barely remember her at all, but he knows his parents have lots and lots of contacts from the old days, so he canāt remember everyone.
So after many years you come back around to stay for a few days. And Jack is getting to that age where heās kinda starting to realize he likes getting attention from girlsā but it also embarrasses the hell out of him
He can barely go into the general store when the ownerās daughter is sitting by the counter or minding the place while her dad is out, but John makes him run the grocery errands anyways, telling him to grow up.
As you might expect, John Marston is terrible at teaching his son how to handle his emerging feelings, and he avoids it for damned near as long as possible, until Abigail is physically dragging him by the ear into Jackās room and closing the door behind her for the them to have āthe talk.ā
But before that happens, you visit the ranch at Beecherās Hope. And heād barely noticed the girls his age in town but youā¦.. you were a woman. And you knew how to shoot, and you had curls in your hair, and you even read books about knights like he didā¦. And before he knows it, whenever his parents get a letter saying to expect you to drop in, he pulls out all the stops.
He cleans his room, cleans himselfā he even saves up to by his first time of pomade. He probably steals some of his dadās shaving tonicsā the real heavy scented stuff Abigail buys him for anniversaries but he never opens. He might even use some of his leftover change to buy you a candy assortment. He doesnāt even realize why heās doing it all, why he looks forward to you visiting so much. After all, he never buys candy or combs his hair for Aunt Sadie or Uncle Charles.
Abigail thinks itās the cutest thing. If theyād had home photographyā¦.. you bed sheād be documenting all of it and putting it in an album that heād be begging her to burn when he got older.
For John, itās like a smack in the face. His son is getting so grown up so fastā¦. And he cleans up better at 13 than John did at 25. Or even now, for that matter. Iām fact, it makes him feel sorry for all the time he did miss when Jack was growing up. It makes him see much more clearly how each precious moment passes so quicklyā¦. This isnāt the same kid who dug up worms for his Uncle Hoseaās fishing trips and tried to get Uncle (as inā¦ the Uncle) to eat one. And he almost succeeded, by the way.
I imagine you take the candy from Jack gratefully, but give his parents a knowing sort of smile. You tell him how handsome he looks with his hair all nicely groomed, and how you think you can see some hair growing on his upper lipā¦. Itās a great exaggeration, but heās ecstatic about it.
In a few years time, his parents (But mostly Uncle) will tease him ruthlessly for how he pined for you so badly in his younger days, and heāll bluster and asks them to stop, but he really doesnāt mind too much. Because heās wise beyond his years in some ways, and he catches on quickly that theyāll always cherish the disappearing days that are his boyhood. His first crush on you really marked the day that they had to start saying goodbye to their baby boy, who was growing up as fast as he couldā which was much to fast for their liking.

Itās such a guilty pleasure of his to imagine. Heās such a bastardā he knows he has no right to bring a child into this world. To be a father. To raise this kid among his family of criminalsā¦. To have something so innocent and fragile as a pregnant woman, let alone an infant child in this life of constant travel and grazes from enemy bullets. But by god he canāt help it. There must be some fantasy he can escape to.
Sometimes when you check yourself in the mirror, and Arthur comes to hold you from behind and kiss your neck, he puts his hands on your stomach and thinks of what youād look like swollen with his child. It makes him embarrassingly hard against your backside when he does.
If you do get pregnant, he canāt keep his hands off of you. Constantly at your belly, checking for the slightest bit of growth, for even just a hint of a kick. Heād always been a little fixated on your breasts, but when he finds them growing heavier, he has to stop himself from tearing open every one of your blouses to get his hands and mouth on them directly.
And I know you said he might discover youāre lactating during sex, and I like that, but alsoā¦.. imagine cabin life. Arthur gets up bright and early. Unfortunately I wouldnāt hold your breath for a remakeā¦.. rockstar loves to take their damned time (I say this in good fun, as I actually think many games are rushed sadly and I want games to have longer development cycles) and they havenāt gotten to the point where remakes are a part of their content cycle (e.g. pokemon and resident evil). Rockstar is relatively young in the gaming industry! Itās such a household name that I forget that sometimes.
Iāve just come back from some googling. Apparently I was wrong! Rockstar is remaking GTA4 which feels waaaaayy too recent to be remade. But maybe Iām just getting old. ANYWAYS there is a fan remake of Red Dead Revolver in the works, and itās in unreal 5, so the graphics are nice. Thereās even a high quality model/render of Harlow, and it looks soooooo gooodā¦ā¦ please look it up if you get the chance! No idea if/when it will be released to the public, I honestly am surprised it hasnāt been totally shutdown for legal reasons (unless of course Rockstar is adamant that is has no plans for that particular IP).
Anyways, if I can find some gameplay to watch from revolver, or maybe find a ātotally legalā way to play it, perhaps one day I will write for it!

First of all I misread this at first and I was like WHERE WERE THE FEMININE MEN IN EVIL WITHIN you got me all excited lol cause the closest thing I remembered was Joseph, and now that Iām thinking about it, Leslie.
Secondly I think Arthur is a very nuanced and easy to love character, partially I guess because his morality is subject to your personal tastes as a player, but heās one of those characters where you really get to like live inside his head and know all his interests and insecurities and all of his awkwardness and fears and joysā¦. I think it becomes easier and easier to yearn for a character when you know their vulnerabilities. And his intentions! He could do all those things you mentioned, and you could know in your heart that he wasnāt pretending. And of course, it helps that you know he has tits for you to rest your head on and that his hands could maybe eclipse yours if youāre small enoughā¦. And for the most part, Arthur uses his masculinity for good. At least, in my playthroughs. He might threaten the odd person with his big stature, but heās not exactly a terrorizer.
Iām trying to think of other good games with valuable masculine men that I can mentionā¦. I would check out apex legends. They have a variety of man types heretofore unheard of. Fuse is a rather excellent masculine manā¦. And heās pansexual and over 50! But there are also more effeminate men like Seerā¦. Truly, there is much to be gender envious of in apex legendsā¦.

Karen can usually keep her cool in high intensity situations, but when it comes to your safety, she turns into an absolute hellcat. Arthur is the one that stops her from storming straight into the enemy camp. But when she does get you back, you are gonna get nearly strangled with her hugging. The lady has some strong arms. She'll be wrapping you up in a flannel blanket and treating you like a sick little baby bird for the next week.
Molly won't go to get you back herself. She gets damned near close, but she's smart enough to know that she'd only get in the way in a firefight. She does, however, have a camp full of experienced ruffians and she gets plenty steamed when they sit around doing nothing while you're in danger, and you could be scared or hurt or dead. If you thought she was a pill before, see her with a sense of urgency-- you won't forget it. I can see her talking to Dutch on the eve of your rescue mission, Molly demanding they bring you back safe, and Dutch saying tersely that they will try their hardest, and Molly grabbing his lapels and yanking him down so she can say "You don't try. You do."
When you're discovered to have been kidnapped, Sadie isn't going to have just any of these outlaw jerks going after you. When she's risking her own life, and she feels she has nothing left to lose, things are different. But with you on the line, she tells herself she has to be smart. She takes an elite team that she trusts, consulting Arthur on the matter. Arthur, Charles, Javier, Lenny.... she gathers up the people she can trust to take it seriously and not make any dumb missteps under pressure. And she cries when she has you back in her arms. A waterfall of tears of relief.

Bill isn't the bravest, or the best at sticking up for himself. But when he's with you, he finds himself filling this sort of niche... He is literally the bravest strongest boy for you.
When you do chores around camp and he shows up, he's constantly taking the big and heavy things out of your arms because he's worried you'll strain yourself. And he might puff out his chest a little walking alongside you, a little proud of his chivalry.
And when you're not feeling well, the man has some bite to him. If someone is hassling him to come along on a job, he'll grit out that he's busy, rather than just huffing and going along.
And if the chores and jobs get a little too tough he'll even do a little bit of standing up to Dutch or Miss Grimshaw, insisting your load be lightened. Though, understandably, his hands will still shake.
If it's something you enjoy, he will take every and any opportunity to lift you up and carry you around. If it makes you giggle, you're gonna get fucking lifted every time he comes back to camp after a long day.
