āI am the result of love. More specifically, Black and Iranian love. Of Shia love, of Christian love, of American love, of a love that highlights how interconnected we truly are. If my Baba was stuck in an airport because of a Muslim ban 39 years ago, he would have never fallen in love with my mama. I would not exist and I wouldnāt have two amazing brothers. Xenophobia destroys the power of love and the power of our collective potential. It creates a false sense of security for some and an environment of fear for others. Immigrants donāt threaten safety -stereotypical narratives that promote hate do.ā ā āBlack-ishā star, Yara Shahidi

She was also all over Twitter talking about ān****** retweeting my post, go awayā or some shit; so honestly I hope this just gets worse for her š¤

Youāve likely more than once wished for more black owned businesses in your community. You may have even imagined of starting your own.
Well, as the Black community continues its calls to #BuyBlack and #BankBlack - creating more resources, funding options and increased consumer demand - there may never be a better time to turn your frequent day dreams into a profitable reality.
Black owned businesses in the United States increased 34.5% between 2007 and 2012 totaling 2.6 million Black firms. And the number of firms owned by Black women climbed 66.9 percent, from 900,000 in 2007 to 1.5 million in 2012.
Though the passion to create a black owned business may exist, most donāt have the startup capital or willingness to risk their savings to fund their own business, especially as a first time business owner.
But - there are many small businesses that you might consider starting that donāt require much capital. And while there may be valid fears in becoming an entrepreneur, donāt dismiss the benefits that can come along with it.

Thatās cool but how does one start and run one without a business background? How do you go about translating your skill set into a business?
also what about the capital to start said business? Great idea but you can really fuck up starting your own business, lose friends and money. Itās not as easy as some people think.
How much capital do you need to start a business. Not all businesses require loans from banks, not all businesses are store fronts, not all businesses sell products.
No one said it was easy. Not everything, especially involving generating money is going to be easy. But just because itās not easy then donāt try it?
Yeah. Your business can fail. Even with a business background. If failing or it not being a quick way to make a living wage is a good enough reason to not start a company. Donāt do it then.
1,001 excuses and everyone continues to have businesses in our communities except us.
Except that I run a non-profit, and have been through, in fact am still going through the growing pains of running an org. JSYK, Ā I was pointing out something as a response to the OH BUT JUST GO START A BUSINESS!Ā
Nice try though, maybe not assume someone is making excuses but pointing out a logistical issue with the idea of just go start a business?Ā
Didnāt assume anything about you. Just as you were speaking generally. So was I. Ā
The initial post addressed the real dangers and concerns of folk, especially poor & working class Black folk, about starting a business.
The post never said owning a business was going to solve all your problems, or be less labor or stress than being employed.
Thatās your issue if you think the post/blog meant go start a business without first researching and planning first. The topic wasnāt ways to raise money for your business, it was listing the pros of doing so.

President Velveeta plagiarized his inauguration cake.
A. Cake.
This is real life.
They took the manās cake design like they are so low down
EVERYONE IS MISSING THE BEST GOSH DANG PART OF THIS STORY
THEY DONATED ALL THE PROFITS TO HRC!!
itās cool that the bakery also gave a shoutout to the original cake designer
like they absolutely knew how shady this whole thing was and managed to handle it in the best way possible
Update on #cakegate.
So wait, someone in the š administration actually went to a bakery and was like āgive us literally the exact same one as the Obamas had. Exactly the same.ā Amazing.
Visually they wanted it identical, yes, and brought in a photo, butā¦
The original cake ordered by Obama was food. Every layer was a different flavor.
The DT version was ordered as a mostly inedible styrofoam thing, with the ONE layer edible for show.
Ordered that way.
Do you want a metaphor for the incoming administration? This one is pretty sweet. Or, you know, not.
IT GOT BETTER
Hereās an update on Cakegate. Ā Amused and horrified seems to be my permanent state of being for the next four years, so might as well start getting used to it.

ā¦Black women arenāt bitter; theyāre just tired of being expected to settle for less
Issa āInsecureā (via eccentric-nae)
In real life, black women are the most important women in my life. Mainstream media and a lot of reality television doesnāt depict female friendship in that way currently. Thereās a lot of fighting, backstabbing, and conniving. Thatās just not my relationship and thatās just not what I know to be true about the black women in my life.

Isnāt it sad that itās revolutionary? Itās so basic ⦠but we donāt get to do that. We donāt get to just have a show about regular black people being basic.
