"I  mean.  .  .I'm  just  pointing  out  the  facts  here."  They  might  hurt.  They  do  hurt  him.  School  was  never  something  he  cared  about  until  Mr.  LaRusso  made  him  the  promise  of  give  him  a  place  to  stay  if  he  went  back  to  school.  And  then  the  fight  happened,  juvie,  cobra  kai.  So  much  has  happened  that  he  already  missed,  give  or  take,  a  whole  year,  maybe  more,  considering  he  had  been  out  of  school  from  his  other  one  before  moving  to  the  LaRusso's.  "With  my  record  and  the  fact  I  missed  a  year  or  more  of  school,  it's  likely  I'm  not  going  to  graduate,  nevermind  how  smart  I  am  or  not."  

ㅤㅤThe kid has proved time and time again that he sure as hell can take care of himself ( has had to the whole of his life with no thanks to his father— a father solely by name alone ), blue eyes uneasily glancing aside as Robby states his case, the pen within his grasp thrown onto a newspaper set atop the shitty apartment's table with a litany of red crosses and circles from where Johnny himself had been going through the motions of searching for work ( still trying to make ends meet at this age too ). The man doesn't want this life for his son, one that's wasted for far too many decades until circumstances take a flaming dump on you with a flying kick to the balls. Thoughts drift back to chasing down Shannon in a useless bid to get her their son to quit with the truancy, but his words hadn't worked back then and sure as hell wouldn't work now - Johnny can shout all he wants at the dojo to make those nerds pay attention, but that won't cut it with his own son, the blond needing to make a choice, frustration bubbling up at the base of his throat as he leans back in the seat.

＂      OH,    THAT’S  NOT  YOU.      —      i’m  pretty  sure  that  smell  has  been  hanging  around  this  place  since  the  dawn  of  time.      this  bar  has  seen  better  days.      ＂          which  is  probably  why  denny  came  here  so  frequently;      always  a  sucker  for  the  𝚞𝚗𝚍𝚎𝚛𝚍𝚘𝚐  instead  of  the  big  time  players.          ＂      and  i  wouldn’t  call  it  a  bummer  attitude.      more      .  .  .      mysterious    &    brooding,    which  hey,    caught  my  attention,    so  it  must  be  working  for  ya.      ＂          beer  bottle  lifts,    pressing  against  amiable  smile  as  he  turns  a  negative  into  a  positive  with  𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐥  𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞,    the  kind  that  comes  from  a  lifetime  of  𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘺𝘪𝘯𝘨  𝘪𝘵  𝘤𝘰𝘰𝘭.      too  cool,    according  to  his  old  man.          ＂      oh,    really?      now,    see,    while  i  am  partial  to  the  occasional  headbop  when  listening  to  summertime,    i'm  sure  i  look  like  a  man  with  a  more  refined  taste.      i  mean,    c’mon.      i’m  clearly  a  frankie  sinitra  kinda  guy.      i  love  me  a  crooner.      ＂          spare  hand  moves  up  and  down  the  length  of  his  body,    as  if  his  physical  appearance  somehow  made  verbal  statement  true.      it  didn’t.

ㅤㅤ"Sounds like you and this place have some history. Depending on the type, that's either a good or bad thing..." There's a lilting edge to the remark, a question teetering on Daniel's tongue that isn't outright imparted on account of not wanting to overly pry— but it's there nonetheless, an invitation for further discussion if it's not too much of a sore spot for this guy. The other seemed nice enough, but he knows all too well from personal experience that these kinda places attract all sorts ( it's hard to tell what is & isn't comfortable ). But that follow up compliment catches him a little off guard mid sip of his drink, a faint splutter of amusement garnering some light-hearted laughter, a flash of gently curved teeth hitting the light as chestnut eyes momentarily lower to the sheen of the jukebox, ascending to the man once more ( damn, that was really smooth - comically so ). "That's the impression I give, huh? Not to toot my own horn, I have my moments." The smile that etches into place doesn't come from a place of smugness but rather reminiscence, this connoli of a guy somehow managing to scare up a date or two who some thought were a little out of his league ( honestly, they were ), and yet far be it from him to complain in any way.

ㅤㅤㅤㅤDaniel follows the motion of his company's hand, taking the brunet in with a look of appraisal not unlike a person on the cusp of purchasing a new car, checking out all the bells and whistles with a light hum. "You're... somethin', alright." Look, he's an attractive guy, a magnetism in place that's further enhanced by an affable mien to boot - there are folks on the other side of the room checking him out for his aura alone, and that's before they've even managed to have a conversation with him— And in that moment, he wonders why the other had chosen to speak with Daniel instead of a roomful of interesting people... Doesn't matter for the time-being, a sense of expectation diminishing as the music kicks into gear, knowing damn well he'd made a perfect choice, the acquiescing tilt of his head admitting as such. "Just call me a man of hidden talents." ( how's that for a means of introduction, huh ) A palm reaches out to take the other man's Denny's hand with a handshake that's unfortunately a little clammy, the condensation from the beverage entirely to blame. "Good to meet ya, Denny." A pause, lips pressing into a thin line in thought. "This's the part where I give you a fake name, like... Zachary Newcastle." There's a punctuation of laughter, a palm physically waving away the dumb joke in subsequent correction. "Daniel LaRusso. And I promise, that is my actual name."

"You caught me, I'm using you to avoid angsty pop music." He's surprisingly fun to joke around with. She hadn't welcomed the move, but it would help if she had at least one person on her side. There's something about him that kept her wanting to know more about him, and whatever he'd say next. "Next time though I promise my intentions will be noble." Were his when he offered to give her a tour?

ㅤㅤ"Called it." There's a feigned sense of pride with the response, chin momentarily raised a little in supposed triumph before instantly deflating, peppered laughter filtering through with the shake of his head ( ok - maybe this wasn't so bad, after all ). Distraction quickly takes hold as a battered sneaker nudges at, well, something on the sidewalk, warm line of vision narrowing against what looks like a mound of dried gum, curiosity seeing the teen prod a little ardently at it - it's rock hard. "Wow. I'll, uh, keep that in mind. Just so you're prepared, this'll be my face when your inevitable betrayal comes around." Index finger gesturing towards his visage, eyes widen and lips downturn, a theatrical simulacra of hurt, pain— all that good stuff.

"Jesus,    Johnny.    This    isn't    a    competition    about    who    had    it    worst."    God,    how    can    he    even    dare    talk    to    Johnny    when    everytime    he    opens    up,    this    is    what    he    gets    as    a    reaction?    How    come    Johnny    can    see    the    error    in    his    ways    and    how    bad    it    is    for    a    kid    like    Miguel    to    be    picked    on    but    when    Daniel    relates    his    own    tales,    he    gets    backlash    and    animosity?    "Well,    this    cute    guy    knew    nothin'    when    he    showed    up    at    that    beach    and    certainly    didn't    knew    her    story.    Do    you    ever    hear    yourself    when    you    talk?    I    was    new    in    town,    Johnny!    All    I    knew    is    that    I    saw    Ali    shouting    at    you    and    you    breaking    her    radio."    And    he    had    to    step    in,    because    most    people    would    say    to    mind    their    own    business    but    all    he    saw    was    that    Ali    wanted    an    out.    He    doesn't    think    he    deserved    what    happened    that    day.    Or    the    day    after,    or    the    day    after.   

"You    want    to    make    it    a    competition?,    because    I    can    go    all    day    about    how    life    was    a    shithole    back    then    for    me,    have    someone    bigger    and    stronger    push    me    every    damn    day    at    school    and    comin'    home    to    a    single    mother    who    was    never    home    and    when    she    was,    she    was    a    wreck    of    nerves    because    I    showed    up    with    bruises."    If    Johnny    wants    to    make    this    a    show    off    on    whose    life    sucked    the    most,    he    can    certainly    make    it    an    even    ground.    It's    like    for    Johnny    Lawrence,    Daniel    always    did    wrong,    even    when    he    was    laying    on    the    ground,    beaten    abd    broken,    unable    to    beg    for    mercy    (    but    back    then,    mercy    was    not    something    Johnny    knew    ).    "Of    course    not.    We    all    have    problems,    Johnny.    You    asked    me    why    I    couldn't    train    like    you    do,    and    I'm    trying    to    tell    you    and    you    just    don't    get    it."    And    he    breathes    out,    exasperated,    there    is    flaying    of    arms    around,    the    old    him    coming    right    through    from    the    thin    veil    of    who    he    was    now.   

ㅤㅤHe lets Daniel's words wash over him in turbulent waves, each syllable embodying a bludgeoning tirade that's justified given the shit Johnny pulled back in the day and the subsequent animosity that continues to broil during the present - he's used to others taking their anger out on him, an easy target that blithely takes it all in his stride, coping mechanisms ( or a lack thereof ) lying elsewhere entirely within unhealthy and all-consuming bad habits. Some things about his and LaRusso's dynamic would never be entirely rectified, but there's a lesson to be learnt here regardless of the overly heavy handed and harsh approach that the blond sensei has taken to prove a point, impatiently waiting his turn as the brunet gets it all out of his system. There are elements that he's learning about for the first time due to the flip of perspective, fair line of vision growing avoidant with the mention of Lucille's plight, a factor that a kid would never consider while going through the motions of getting by in high school. The man bites back the need to say 'at least she cared', his own experience of gaining facial bruises contrastingly ridiculed by Sid who saw this obsession with karate as mere nonsense, his own mom frequently choosing to turn a blind eye and ignore their severity ( boys will be boys... ).

ㅤㅤㅤㅤ"That anger you're feeling. That bitterness. That venom—" Footsteps slowly draw closer once again and given the stifling tension that hangs in the air in a way that threatens to envelop and choke everything within the vicinity, for a split second it looks like things are about to escalate with a physical altercation ( such is their way of doing things ). But that's not how Johnny wants things to go, a flicker of a smile appearing upon the man's visage but it isn't rooted in happiness or a sense of smug accomplishment, the gesture fleeting in how it instantly falters and falls as he tries to explain himself - words were never the blond's strongest suit, conversely favouring gestures instead ( those he was better at, even if he could be a little unreliable ), but he digs deep to voice what he's trying to achieve in getting his thoughts across. "I want you to remember every part of it each time you ever have a single bad thought about those Cobra Kai kids. Every single one of them has had Kreese pull this bullshit to get in their head. To get them riled the fuck up by playing on their insecurities, making them see themselves as the victim in whatever drama that's going on with others. If you weren't strong enough, he'd make you tap into another side of you you didn't even know you had. Turn fear into a weapon..."
