     Treading lightly, Erik stood completely still as he shifted his eyes momentarily to view his surroundings. Clearing his throat, palms sunk into slacks’ pockets before commenting.

     Remaining in place, a small, curt smile formed across the brim of his lips as he extended a hand towards the stranger, noting the visible discomfort in her eyes—something he had witnessed all too often amongst his own brethren.

Despite an AI's need to think, analyzing enormous quantities of data only caused the rampancy to progress at a greater speed. And her mind was a chaotic sea of questions and mixed emotions. One specific thought refused to vanish: her "revival". The last memory available before her demise was the peculiar sensation of her entire dissipating into the void. How could one describe it? Before her consciousness could fade, she felt herself stitch together. As though an otherworldly being were collecting the pieces that made Cortana.

A question for another time, perhaps.

Bright cerulean eyes flickered towards the stranger, slightly widening at his hand outstretched towards her. They knew nothing of one another, yet he quickly offered her kindness. Was it to obscure a darker, more twisted nature? She pursed her lips, hesitating to acknowledge the gesture. No longer a projection, she came to realize exactly how mortal she was. Without battle training of any kind other than cyber warfare, the woman had as much strength as a mere child.

Eventually, she tired from the internal argument and grasped his hand firmly. She desperately needed an ally to depend on amidst the confusion, and was stubborn to take the risk. Either he would become a valuable asset, or she would meet an unfortunate end.
