German-influenced dining of days gone by - or from the 1916 Atlanta City Directory to be more specific. I don't know what's more enticing, the "gamiest game" or the "novel drinks."

The Fulton Bag and Cotton Mill- in its heyday.
The Fulton Bag and Cotton Mill - after it was shuttered. Circa 1985.
Greetings from Atlanta, home of the Braves, 1960s. From a new postcard booklet found at Jackson Street Books in Athens, GA. This original stadium, demolished after the Olympics, stood in the site that is now the parking lot of Turner Field, reportedly slated for demolition when the Braves move to Cobb County in 2017.

The swimming pool at Piedmont Park in the 1930s. (The card is postmarked 1938). Here's something to consider: for years the swimming area was connected to Lake Clara Meer. Fun! But in the 1970s, concern about water safety led to the construction of a pool separated from the lake water.
From the Atlanta City Directory, 1918. An unsettling slice of 20th century life in the "City too Busy to Hate." Note the KKK listed among the other fraternal organizations. Apparently not a very "invisible empire."
From the 1916 Atlanta City Directory, an ad for my sometime employer. I don't know about you, but I wonder just what was involved earning a degree in "Moral and Mental Science."
Found after a year-long quest: Atlanta Dairies milk bottle. The Atlanta Dairies cooperative was founded in order to help Georgia farmers comply with pasteurization laws. The farmers pooled resources for a processing facility and delivery services.

Carnegie Library, downtown Atlanta, 1908. All that's left of the building is some columns and other architectural elementsβre-purposed as the "Carnegie Education Pavilion" aka the "Carnegie Arch" in Hardy Ivy Park at the intersection of Peachtree and Baker streets.
Atlanta's Flat Iron Building, ca. 1920. Note, the building in downtown Atlanta is older than its better-known namesake in NYC.

Productive research day at @ATLHistCenter - would have been more productive without distractingly awesome postcard exhibit. (Taken with Instagram)
