The Cute Cyan Bird

“Edward?” I asked quietly as I entered the basement.

“Yes?” His soft voice made me smile. I fully walked into the room.

“Want to help me with the decorations while everyone is out?” He nodded eagerly and I slowly made my way back out of the basement, periodically looking over my shoulder to make sure that he was following me. “Did you celebrate Halloween before?”

“No. At least not that I can remember.” His soft voice echoed slightly as we walked down the hall. “The inventor seemed more preoccupied with finishing me than anything else.” There was a sadness to his voice and as we stepped into the living room I gently put a hand on his arm, just below his hands.

“Do you wish he had finished you?” I asked quietly. He shook his head. It was quiet for a bit while I set about pulling out the boxes of decorations. Edward asked a few questions as I pulled various ceramic pieces out and set them up. “Kim made this.” I held up a small ceramic pumpkin before setting it on the table in front of him. Edward gently poked at it with one of the scissors.

“It’s pretty.” His eyes raised from the pumpkin to meet mine. “Did you make anything?” I nodded and dug in the box a little before pulling out a small ghost.

“I made this.” I set it on the table and Edward leaned closer to it.

“I like it.” He smiled at me before settling back on the couch. I smiled back at him before going back to digging through the box. “(Y/N)? Can I ask you something?” I nodded as I kept pulling out various paper crafts that mom really should have gotten rid of long ago but couldn’t bring herself to throw away.

“Sure Edward.” I responded, my eyes flitting up to see him watching me carefully.

“Do you like me the same way I like you?” I froze as I looked up at him. I slowly straightened up and ran my hands down my jeans.

“How do you like me?” I asked quietly, slowly taking a seat on the edge of the couch. Edward shuffled over a little bit before nervously clicking the scissors together.

“Like Kim likes Jim.” His voice was softer and I gently reached out to rub his forearm. I smiled gently at him.

“Then yes. I do like you the way you like me.” I whispered, scared of frightening him. He nodded before turning to the little ghost on the table. “Did you want to date me Edward?” He nodded again, not looking at me. I pulled my hand away from his and stood up. “Let me finish up in here and then we can head out to get something to eat. How does that sound?” This time Edward looked over at me.
