What I loved, what I didn’t, what I’d have liked - I feel compelled somehow to write these down. (Spoilers)
Things I loved:
- the very real post-breakup angry reunion scenes
- The teensy minisode where everyone is in Braveheart
- Heaven Inc. (Because it’s realistically absolutely awful and seeing him in grey was painful)
- The very real desolation of Whickber Street aka The World, because they were not in it
- Role reversal - the Rescue, the Decision
- Disguised In Hell (though it was a bit hard to watch)
- Ice cream
- A Bookshop At The End Of The World (actual Heaven)
- A Bookshop At The End Of The World With No Goddamn Books In It (Actual Hell - the way my heart sank)
- Muriel The Detective
- Michael’s Breakdown
- The Decision (because characterisation)
- Literally every scene between them because they were so good
- Them as humans (I really didn’t think they’d go there but they did and I was surprised that it made me so happy)
- The implication that we are all made of stardust and now they are too, repeating and repeating ad infinitum
- The Former Messiah and The Former Antichrist having a cheeky pint
- Terry
- How beautiful it was overall: yes it’s 90 minutes, yes it’s far too short and everything is crammed in, but they got to the end in a way that made it feel resolute
Things I did not
- the emptiness of Hell, especially given *all this* (I know we only saw the mail room but still, it felt small and budget-cutting)
- Underuse of shopkeeper supporting characters (even moreso than in s2)
- The shortened intro sequence (felt like a requiem)
- The fact that’s it’s over and that’s it.
- The reason why it’s over and that’s it, which has of course tainted it forever.
Things I would have liked
- A chance to retry the final 15 - even if what we did get was very in character and symbolically fitting, it would have been nice for them to have had a little more of it. Or a lot more of it.
- Crowley’s reaction to Aziraphale the Hell Disguise, particularly the high heels and *that* nose
- More Muriel the Detective, particularly a Poirot influence
- Muriel the Bookseller
- More time for Michael’s breakdown
- More minisodes: the 1941 sorry dance (or even a compilation of all of them); Leonardo; dinner at Trimalchio’s; the Trojan War; literally anything would have been good
- Literally every scene between them being longer
- More garden
- Just more really
- A press junket, so at least then we’d have had more to enjoy watching after it was over
