As so-called “red states” send troops to the capital and conspire to rig future elections, and “blue states” retaliate, perhaps it’s time to rethink the so-called “two-party system” which seems only capable of corruption leading to civil war.
Two years ago—before I relocated back to the USA—if you told me it would be like this, I would have stayed where I was.
My country is forever changed and my heart goes out to those victimized by this tyranny.
Delighted the neighbor kids play outside so much, but whose idea was it to give them a whistle!?!

I’ve been avoiding journaling and now I think I know why: My journal usually comes out at a break during work or when I’m waiting for my kid to get out of swimming class. But none of that’s happening now. What’s there to journal if every day is and feels the same as every other?

Social distancing
Stay home to stay safe
Order groceries online
but who delivers them?
The exploitation is exposed.
Undocumented workers who pay taxes
but receive no relief.
We see those without homes
only when they might infect us.
Coronavirus reveals inequities.
Survive first. Then learn.

Hiding from coronavirus
It’s been almost a month
living the introvert’s dream.
A crash course in information literacy
in which we are all unwittingly enrolled.
More noise than usual
Signal more important than ever
Making the case for procrastination
Shelter in place
No longer an anti-social lifestyle choice
Keep it together, everyone.
Coronavirus has exposed flaws and weaknesses in our leadership, infrastructure, and philosophy. How we live depends on things remaining normal, and then we constantly build upon that normalcy. But that's an unreliable foundation. What would be better? I have my ideas, and all of this time at home is helping me to organize and articulate them.
Civilization Thus Far
In my view, civilization is at the brink of the end of the dark ages. Antiquity lasted for about ten thousand years and ended in the 8th century. The world has been medieval since then, toiling under the yoke of first agricultural, then industrial slavery. Slowly, incrementally, the comforts and security once enjoyed only by nobility and aristocrats have been extended by the forces of liberalism to the masses. The result is a a global population of almost eight billion of the healthiest and wealthiest people who have ever lived.

A Great Day in Harlem: behind Art Kane’s classic 1958 jazz photograph
The young art director’s idea to photograph as many of the luminaries of the New York jazz scene as possible together for Esquire’s 1959 Golden Age of Jazz edition began his career as a photographer. Police closed the road to all but residential traffic, and 57 musicians duly assembled in Harlem between Fifth and Madison Avenues. The group included Dizzy Gillespie, Art Blakey, Thelonius Monk, Coleman Hawkins, Lester Young, Charles Mingus, Gerry Mulligan and Count Basie.
