hiii, im a huge fan of your work! everything is so beautifully written and the effort and love u put into every piece is something i aspire to achieve :,)
could you write something of childhood friends reader and ryland? maybe they met in primary school and parted ways until adulthood, meeting either at school or for Project Hail Mary? i’d love to see what u could make with this!!
thank you so much!! i hope you like this :) and. i am so sorry in advance for this.
make believe (ryland grace x reader)
also posted on ao3 | my masterlist Science camp. High school. Quiz bowl. Prom. College. Grad school. And then: nothing. And then: Ryland is back in your life, as quickly as he had vanished. ~17k words (don't even look at me); childhood friends to lovers; angst; smut; Stratt's Vat; engineer!reader; oral - f!receiving; missionary; unprotected sex; fem!reader title based off of this song (make believe by jigitz) that i listened to on repeat while writing taglist: @umbranull @lilredbird101 @carolineesnell @sillybillyp9 @pixiebuggz @yennimxchi @joccey
You send Stratt the file at two in the morning, having gone back and forth in your mind about it for about an hour, then rereading it for good measure, then rewatching the footage from the ArcLight probe. They’re alive, even though that statement probably wouldn’t survive peer review, particularly because you’re not even a biologist. But you know it, in the same way you know your name and your address and your phone number.
The paper is still downloaded to your computer. Of course it is. You read it when it came out, and a few times since then. It had been one of those instances where you almost broke the silence, reached out to him, asked him how he was doing, even though it was pretty clear that the answer was ‘not great.’ But you didn’t. Because he had been the one who stopped keeping in touch. The other time had been after the conference, which you’d only heard about secondhand, from a colleague in another department.
They’re alive, and they live on the surface of the sun, and even if you haven’t talked to him in years, you’re pretty sure you still know him, that he would take to this like a fish to water. (He would probably hate that metaphor.)
She does not reply, but she does leave a thumbs up on your email.
A true masterpiece holy shittt

AUG 03, 2026 ¡ just came from SpM: BND and checked the tags and omggg there’re new fics!!! I prayed for times like these
𝐃𝐨𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐕𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧
Pairing: Colt Seavers x gn!Reader; Ryland Grace x gn!Reader
Summary: you find out your close friend and coteacher has a stuntman twin.
Words: 1.4k
Warnings: flirty Colt, jealous Ryland, brother banters, they/them pronouns used for reader
A/N: this idea was birthed from multiple tiktoks that suggest an au wherein colt and ryland are (sometimes estranged) twins. from the moment i saw the fall guy i have definitely been thinking of how he and ryland look so similar!! of course, credit for the au concept goes to the rightful owner, that of whom i do not actually know of but absolutely commend for this absolute masterpiece of an idea.
p.s. if anyone wants to be added to the taglist for any and all ryan gosling fics, just leave a comment and pls pls make sure your mentions are on😭

“Ryland, have you turned in your re…port…?”
You enter Ryland’s classroom without a knock or a second thought, holding in your arms a copy of your monthly report. Your feet halt and your brows furrow curiously at the figure stood in front of the teacher’s desk. He was toying with “lava” when you caught him.
The figure turns to face you, startled at your sudden arrival. It’s Ryland, yet somehow, it isn’t? Something about him felt uncanny—unfamiliar.
Jealous!Ryland I love youuuuu

A bead of sweat dropped down your temple, as you hauled a handful of grocery bags into the kitchen, spotting Jack in the living room, pulling off his scrub top.
”Oh hi, honey!” You smiled, dropping the groceries on the table. Jack filling in for Robby this week meant that you could actually spend evenings together, sometimes.
He murmured a non-committal ’hello’ back, which you brushed off to him just being exhausted. You knew being a doctor was a physically and mentally taxing job. Quietly humming under your breath, you put the groceries away, turning the oven on so you could start prepping dinner.
By then, Jack had swapped into more comfortable clothes, his prosthesis now pulled off and stood upright against the side of the couch. You brought over a water bottle for him, pressing a quick kiss to his jaw.
”Dinner won’t take long. Maybe like thirty minutes.” You spoke softly, tidying up some discarded clothes from the living room, while Jack turned the TV on. He was quiet, but that didn’t bother you.
Sometimes after long shifts he was just tired. But you knew he was listening, and you didn’t mind filling in the silence.
You rambled on about what you did and saw during the day, twisting off to a five-minute drabble of a cute stray cat you saw. Jack loved listening to your rambles, since his job didn’t give him much time to be on his phone, he liked the daily debriefs he got from you after work.
”Oh— and honey, could you take a look at the dryer later? It’s making that weird clunking noise again. And the bathroom sink-”
”Jesus! Can you just let me be for one goddamn second?” Jack snapped out of nowhere, making your spine go rigid. His jaw was tight grit, and his hands were flying around, as if to emphasize his point.
Your eyes caught his, and you could see the angry look fade instantly. He never snapped. Hell, he never got angry. Not at you.
The laundry in your hands was forgotten now, and you had that awkward, forced smile on your face. He’s just having a bad day— he didn’t mean to take it out on you. Don’t cry.
”Yeah— sorry.” You cleared your throat awkwardly, dropping the laundry on the couch, wiping your hands on your thighs, ”Uh, I can just…I’ll call someone about the dryer. It’s fine.”
”Shit, sweetheart. I’m sorry—” Jack’s words died in his throat, as he watched you walk into the kitchen. He knew you inside out, and he knew damn well he practically just stuck a dagger into your heart.
It’s not your fault he’s having a bad day. He’s being unfair— he knows that. He’s just exhausted. With a long sigh, he buries his head in his hands. He needs to cool off for a second.
Meanwhile, you’re in the kitchen, eyes burning from the tears you’re holding back. You hadn’t meant to be an inconvenience. The dryer has just been bugging you for a while, and Jack always tells you to go to him when you have any problems.
Maybe you didn’t read the room. Maybe you ask too much? Your brain ran over every possible reasoning, but every single thing came with the conclusion that you’re asking for too much, being too needy.
Jack knew you were beating yourself up. He remembers that night, when you two laid in silence, and you unloaded some of your burdens on him. How in past relationships you were made to feel like an inconvenience. From that day onward, Jack wanted to make sure he’d never make you feel that way.
And he messed up royally. There you were, still prepping dinner for him, even when your sniffles echoed in the kitchen. God, he was just the worst boyfriend ever. You do so much for him, and he takes out his frustrations on you? If his mother was here, she’d smack him.
You were asking for so little, he knows that. It’s rare of you to even ask him for anything, but now you did, and he just snapped at you like a dick. He wouldn’t blame you if you wanted to poison him. Though, he knows you’re not like that.
After cooling off for a little, Jack grabbed his crutches and hoisted himself off the couch with a groan, slowly padding his way to the kitchen doorway, where we watched you for a while. The tight set of your shoulders as you chopped vegetables, the small sniffles escaping you. Even the way your hand would occasionally lift to swip over your cheeks.
“Sweetheart, stop that.” He spoke in a low rumble, walking up behind you. One crutch abandoned, so that he could wrap an arm around your waist, pulling you to his chest. His lips pressed onto the crown of your head, “You shouldn’t be cooking. I should be doing everything. I’m sorry I snapped.”
“It’s fine, Jack-” You started, but he shook his head, hand coming up to ease the knifee out of your grip.
Once the knife was set down, he gently covered your hand with his. “No, it’s not fine. I had a shit day at work, and I took it out on you. And that’s not fine. Not in any possible way. You did nothing wrong, it was all me.”
He could tell you were about to argue again, so he swiveled you around, his hand moving to grasp your jaw, “Don’t. I know you’re about to say ‘it’s fine’ again, but it’s not. I was a dick. I’m gonna make it up to you.”
Watching your sad eyes, he thumbed away the remains of tears off of your cheeks, eyes softening at the look on your face. God, he’s the worst.
And Jack knew you’d still forgive him immediately, but he won’t stop apologizing. He once vowed to never be the guy who makes you feel small, and he’d went and did that anyways.
“Tomorrow’s my day off. I’m fixing the dryer. The sink. Then, I’m taking my girl out.” He pressed a soft kiss to your lips, “We’ll go to the bookstore. Your favorite coffee place. Anything you want.”
“Jack, that isn’t necessary-”
His hand pressed over your mouth. “Ah-ah. There’s no talking your way out of this, sweetheart. I was a jerk, and I’m damn well going to make it up to you. I’m sorry I snapped at you. It wasn’t fair of me at all.”
The tension in your shoulders slowly eased, heart warming at the care and attention he pays to you. Not one person in your life would go this far just to apologize. But Jack would. He’d walk through fire for you. If you’re cold, he’ll gladly crank up the heating, even if he’s overheating. He’ll get up early to make breakfast, just so you can sleep a little longer.
Every single thing he does for you is a testimony of his love.
“There she is.” He whispered softly, a small smile quirking up his lips, as he watched you slowly return to your normal self. He let his hand slide down to rest on your hip, gently patting it, “How about you sit down, sweetheart? Let me finish dinner. Then we’ll cuddle on the couch and I feed you, yeah?”
And well, you knew there was no arguing with him. So you gave him a meek nod, moving to sit down at the table, not before handing Jack a stool though, so he didn’t need to cook one-handed.
Usually, you feel bad whenever you let him do stuff. His work is draining as it is, so you tend to avoid having him do stuff around the house as much as possible– if you can do it yourself.
Jack, of course, knew that you were bound to start feeling bad. So instead, he kept distracting you with his words, asking you to elaborate on your activities for the day.
Dinner went smooth. You two cuddled together on the couch, with Jack feeding you bites of food, while letting you have full control over the remote. You could watch exactly what you wanted to, tonight is all about you.
And the morning after, when you were doing laundry early in the morning, the weird sound coming from the dryer was gone.

jack’s running late for work. he should’ve left ten minutes ago, but a couple shifts with the SWAT unit have caught up with him and he snoozed his alarm more times than he would’ve liked. he’s just about to grab his keys and run out of the door when you enter your shared apartment, the pout on your lips making him stop in his tracks.
“you okay, honey?” he asks softly, dropping his keys in the bowl by the door so he can cup your face in his large hands and bring you into him.
“shitty day,” you sound close to tears and it makes jack hold you tighter. “hey, what time is it? shouldn’t you be gone already?”
“i have a second to hold my girl.”
you melt into his arms, and with zero hesitation he shoots robby a text that he isn’t gonna make it in today.

you listen to a lot of Earth music on the way to Erid. you have nothing but time, after all, and Stratt pirated every single piece of media to put on the ship, so why not indulge in it?
“I could lift you like that,” Ryland says, completely seriously, as I’ve Had The Time Of My Life comes on.
“you could not,” you laugh. he has muscles, sure. but to Dirty Dancing lift you without prep? impossible. the two of you would end up in a pile on the floor.
“I absolutely could. I’d just need to turn the gravity drive off, first.”
you snort at the smile he shoots you.
“ah, so there’s a technicality.”
“of course. I’m not crazy.”
“hmm, still not sure you could pull it off, Grace.”
so, fuck it. you pause the gravity drive just to prove a point to each other, because Rocky is fast asleep and unable to tell you off for wasting time. naturally, the two of you just begin to float aimlessly in the zero-g instead of doing any romantic lifting.
“well now what!” you ask.
“push off the wall! cmon, nobody puts baby in a corner, you know that.”
you roll your eyes fondly and kick against the nearest surface… sending yourself absolutely rocketing towards him. Ryland has just enough wherewithal to go “oh shoot” as you collide into his chest hard enough to punch the breath out his lungs.
“this is not like in Dirty Dancing, Ry!” you say, grinning, as the two of you circle each other wildly.
“wait, hang on, just let me…” he mutters, grabbing onto your clothes for traction and pulling you this way and that before he manages to get his hands on your hips and straighten his body. “there! see, exactly the same.”
the two of you spin, weightless in the perfect pose, and you laugh at how silly it all is until you can’t breathe any more.
“you having the time of your life?” he asks, with a lopsided, starstruck grin, which is on his face purely because he loves your joy.
“I am,” you say, and it’s not a lie.

you and ryland are trying for a baby, you know what that’s means?
a/n: hey I hope this isn’t weird. also not proof read!
“oh gosh! give me a minute!” Ryland groans, his refusal to swear making his statement sound very unserious. you sit up, hair a mess and your breath heavy. “baby we have to, we can’t miss the opportunity!” you argue. ryland looks down at his his dick, it’s so sensitive and the tip is smeared in minute old cum. with a soft grunt he rolls back ontop of you.
you’ve spent the last month fucking like rabbits in an attempt of getting pregnant. even in his more promiscuous years in college he never spent this much time inside a women. day and night, not that he’s complaining but god it’s times like this that prove that he’s not the young man he once was.
“okay… woah, just need to catch me breath” he chuckles, reaching his hand down to lift up your right thigh. he lifts and spreads your leg, revealing your pussy that’s already dripping with his cum. he groans under his breath, he never really realised how hot seeing you filled with his cum was until this whole pregnancy thing started. he was always a one for condoms and ‘safe sex’.
his free hand grabs his base and guides his dick back to your entrance. he winces softly as the warmth, so sensitive. “you okay hon?” you ask softly, hand stroking his hair. he nods his head and pushes forward, entering his dick into your cum filled snatch. his body tenses at the very familiar feeling and his hips buck.
“oh f- gosh… you want more cum baby?” he manages between groans. you bite your bottom lip and nod your head, hands sliding to his shoulders. your blue nails dig into his shoulder blades, silently encouraging him to keep fucking his cum deeper into you.
there’s something about the way that ryland fucks you when he’s sensitive that drives you crazy. how he goes deep and slow, it makes your stomach cramp and your head spin. his hand spreads your thighs further, trying to get as deep as possible, trying to push his cum further and further in hopes of a happy little accident.
“hon? get me close with you?” you ask, he nods quickly. you don’t even have to ask twice. you slides one of his hands to your clit, large thumb beginning to rub your bundle of nerves in tight circles. your brows scrunch and your mouth falls open, moans falling out uncontrollably.
his orgasm begins to build quickly, it always does when he sees you enjoying yourself around his dick. his head dips down, lips attaching onto your neck. “Jesus… Jesus sweetheart” he grunts.
finally he slams his hips against your one last time. he cums again, filling you with more of his sticky mess. your orgasm hits you with his finale thrust, his fingers slow down on your clit until they come to a halt. he shudders and collapses on top of you, keeping his dick deep in you.
“this better work.” he mumbles.

Ryland Grace who breathes in deep through his nose when he kisses you on the mouth because his heart’s beating so fast he needs to catch his breath but cannot bring himself to pull away.
Ryland Grace who once he has a taste of you, wraps his arms around you to try and hold you as close as possible because stupid physics says he can’t be under your skin no matter how badly he wants to be.
Ryland Grace who feels his knees go weak when you tilt your head to deepen the kiss AND card your fingers through his hair.
Ryland Grace who swears you can hear how fast and loud his heartbeat is when you kiss him because it’s clear as a bell to him.

“…yes, mom, i know i should’ve been more careful! but it’s not like we’re living in the 1800’s anymore,” you sighed, your phone pressed to your ear as you sat in jack’s living room.
“how could you even say something like that? are you aware of how your actions will reflect on our family?” your mom scolded. “this is absolutely not okay, you’re having a child out of wedlock! how did you even meet this man?” she questioned.
“...we met at a gathering,” you stated simply, sparing yourself from the wrath that would follow if you told her the complete, detailed truth of how you met jack.
“a gathering? how did you even run into a guy his age?” she scoffed, before cutting her own question short, “—you know what? actually, it doesn't matter. what’s done is done. the only way to resolve this is to salvage what we can.”
‘salvage what we can?’ you were already two months pregnant and had decided to keep the baby, so you weren’t exactly sure of what she was referring to.
you couldn’t help but cringe as you glanced over at jack who was seated next to you. you could tell he was picking up bits and pieces of your mom’s yelling over the phone, but his face remained unreadable as he listened in to the call.
“i’ll send you the details,” she stated, before abruptly ending the call.
after a brief pause, jack let out a short huff as he reached over to give your thigh a comforting pat.
“…that was interesting, huh?” he commented, giving you a sympathetic smile.
you slumped back against the couch cushion, exhaling a dramatic groan. “‘interesting’ is a polite way to word it,” you mumbled.
“it’ll be okay, sweetheart. whatever happens we’ll work through it,” jack comforted, his voice steady.
you let out a soft sigh, your eyes drifting from your phone towards him. every time you thought you had found your footing, life had a way of pulling the rug from under your feet. despite the tight, wound anxiety that lingered in your chest, jack still had a way of grounding you.
it was the obvious years of wisdom, sureness, and stability that drew you to him in the first place. the way he seemed to carry himself with a cool, but humble, confidence made his words all the more easy to believe.
“yeah, i guess… i’m sorry for dragging you into this,” you said, your eyes flitting down to your stomach.
“you didn’t drag me into anything. we’re both adults who made a decision. i wanted this too, remember? and i still want this. i still want you,” he reassured sternly. “in a weird way, i’m glad this worked out the way it did. i’m only getting older, y’know?” he joked dryly. “i’ve always wanted a family, i just never found the time to settle down. i never found the right person either up until now. ever since you showed up, it feels like fate finally threw this old dog a bone… which is why i’ll make sure to look after you, i promise.”
you gave him a soft hum in return, not trusting yourself to respond without bursting into an emotional wreck of tears.
you felt his hand withdraw from your thigh, coming up to rest against your cheek, his thumb gently brushing back and forth.
you willed yourself to meet his gaze once more, looking up to find the hazel depths of his eyes practically overflowing with a deep, certain affection for you.
you received a lengthy text message from your mom a week following the phone call. attached, were photos of a wedding venue, along with a list of wedding invitations.
you: what is this?
mom: your wedding. set at the end of this month.
you: ???
you: my wedding??? you can’t just go behind my back and plan something like this!
mom: it’s the only way we can clean up the mess that you made. besides, your father already paid the deposit. and your soon-to-be husband has been sent an invoice for half of the expenses.
you let out a frustrated huff, a flicker of irritation and rage sparking in you from the audacity your mother had.
you: no. no way. this isn’t happening.
mom: i already sent the invitations. everyone is expecting. make sure you get a dress ready. be at the venue by noon tomorrow to meet the planner.
you were seething, barely containing your agitation, when you informed jack of the wedding that your mom sprung on you. the only reason you hadn’t called her back was due to jack’s unexpected acceptance.
“...i mean, we were bound to end up at this point,” he rationalized.
“but it’s not fair! who cares about what my mom, or everyone else, thinks at this point?” you huffed. “plus, god knows how much the wedding is going to cost!”
“don’t worry about the money, i’ll pay for it,” he soothed. “besides, i already got off on the wrong foot with your parents, i don’t want to further upset my future in-laws,” he added, a soft smile on his face.
that led you to an hour-long drive the next day, your feet reluctantly trudging up the french-inspired estate, taking in the regal structure that was nestled in the middle of the well-maintained garden. you’d never say it out loud, but you acquired your taste in aesthetics from your mom… and she hit the mark on what you would want your wedding to look like.
jack let out a low, appreciative whistle as the two of you stepped into the polished manor, glancing around the empty ballroom which was now designated for your upcoming wedding.
“hey, lovebirds!” an older woman greeted warmly. “i’m carol, your wedding planner. you must be the groom and bride-to-be!” she exclaimed, giving you a wide smile. your heart embarrassingly stuttered at the title. the thought of jack being legally tied to you, officially labeled as your husband sent a warm flush through you that you weren’t going to unpack.
“i have a couple files for you to look through in terms of decoration, food, and extra goodies,” she continued cheerfully, dumping a stack of files into jack’s arms. “after reviewing them, just let me know what caught your eye, that way i can start prepping this place.”
the two of you sat down, looking through the numerous pictures of wedding themes, colors, cakes, foods, music, and activities. you did your best to push down the lingering bitterness, you decided if you were going to go through with this wedding, you might as well turn it into something you could appreciate in the years to come with your… husband.
it was surprisingly easy to settle on the things that you both wanted, so it didn't take long before you had your list of likes and dislikes. after handing back the files to carol, you and jack took a stroll around the property, admiring the colorful garden that surrounded the building.
the next few weeks flew by in a chaotic blur.
you were grateful that your friends came along with you to pick out your wedding dress. you were also relieved that your parents had eased up after you agreed to go along with the ceremony.
throughout the entire thing, jack had made sure to find an ob/gyn provider to establish the necessary prenatal care for your baby, which gave you one less thing to worry about.
and when the end of the month rolled around, the time had finally come to make everything official.
you were alone in the vanity room, taking slow breaths in an attempt to steady your racing heart. you couldn’t help but let out an amused sigh at how your life was going. you would’ve never imagined that you’d not only be marrying, but also having a child, with a man you shared a one-night-stand with three months ago.
it comforted you that at least the man you ended up with was jack abbot.
your hair and makeup were done beautifully, you were dressed in your wedding dress, the fabric hiding the slight pregnant swell of your abdomen.
three knocks could be heard at the door, startling you out of the trance you were in.
“hey,” you whispered. “i don’t think you’re supposed to be here… tradition says it’s bad luck to see the bride before the ceremony,” you added.
jack let out a low chuckle, slipping into the softly lit room. “hmm, well, we’re not exactly a traditional pair,” he teased. he stopped right where you were seated, glancing out at the sunset before looking back at you.
after a small pause he began to speak again. “...i don’t have words to describe how lovely you look right now,” jack mumbled, his eyes tearing up slightly as he admired you.
you stood from your chair, your hands coming up to smooth out the collar of his suit. “hush, save it for when i’m walking down the aisle, mr. abbot,” you joked. “ oh, sorry—not mr. abbot. i should be calling you: senior attending, swat physician, doctor jack abbot,” you added, poking fun at his accomplished title.
that pulled a small huff from him, his hand gently resting on your waist. “you can call me whatever you want, honey… i do prefer just hearing my name from you, though.”
you stepped back slightly, hoping he wouldn’t pick up on your flustered reaction. you glanced at the clock, recalling the fact that you were supposed to be heading towards the aisle in just a few minutes.
“you should get going then, jack. i’ll see you down the aisle,” you stated, your overwhelming anxiety a lot more manageable now that you’ve been in jack’s company.
“i’ll be waiting,” he replied, leaning in to press a brief kiss to your temple. “don’t get cold feet on me, yeah?”
you realized there was no way you’d pass up the chance of marrying jack abbot.
…even if this was something your mother had initially arranged.
you joined your dad who waited for you next to the closed doors. he gave you a quick hug of encouragement, muttering a small, “you look great. your mom is so happy you’re doing this.”
you heard the music begin as you looped your arm with his, the bouquet of flowers in your other hand.
soon, the grand doors pushed open, revealing the stunning chamber, now draped in colorful flowers. you could see your bridesmaids at the end, along with jack and his groomsmen.
the adrenaline that rushed through you was more than enough to drown out the crowd of familiar and unfamiliar guests that sat along the aisle.
by the time you reached the altar, your dad parted, giving you one last pat to your back before joining your mom.
you couldn't tear your gaze away from jack, the nervous fluttering in your chest melting away as you listened to the grounding, heartfelt vows he had written. before you knew it, the two of you slipped the wedding bands onto each other's fingers, leading to the final, beautiful culmination of the moment.
“i do,” jack answered steadily, staring at you like you were his entire world.
“...and do you take jack abbot to be your lawfully wedded husband? do you promise to love, honor, and cherish him through the triumphs and challenges of life?” the officiant asked.
"i do," you breathed out, filled with absolute certainty as you met his sweet gaze.
a warm smile broke across jack's face, his fingers tightening gently around yours.
“i now pronounce you husband and wife. you may kiss the bride!” the officiant announced, but jack didn't wait another second. he leaned in, cupping your cheek with one hand as he pulled you in for a deep kiss that sealed your vows and drowned out the sudden burst of cheers and applause from the crowd around you.
…
“dad! look what i found!” your daughter called out, carrying a cardboard box that was filled to the brim with wedding memorabilia.
jack slipped on his glasses, taking the heavy box from her arms before setting it gently on the coffee table. “this was from a while ago, huh?” he mumbled, starting to sort through the numerous photos inside.
his hand suddenly stilled as he settled on a specific picture of the two of you together. in the photo, you both wore wide, radiant smiles, caught mid-dance in the center of the room. matching rings glinted beneath the light of a disco ball—the exact same wedding band that still sat on his ring finger today.
your younger son soon came tumbling down the stairs, “what’re ya looking at?” he asked, letting out a small yelp as his sister scooped him up.
“it’s when mom and dad got married,” she explained simply. after jack got up to find you, the two children were still hunched over the box, their curious gazes taking in the sight of the life their parents shared before they came along.
jack found you in the dining room, putting the finishing touches on your son’s school project. you were currently gluing the final piece of pasta to the poster board, completing a spectacular display titled: ‘the history of mac & cheese.’
you glanced up at your husband’s presence, a small grin playing on your face. “he got bored after gluing the fifth piece of macaroni,” you explained, your eyes drifting down to the photo held in his hand.
he chuckled softly at the mental image of your son’s short attention span, sliding into the seat next to you. “i’m surprised he even managed to glue down five pieces,” jack said playfully.
he held out the photograph between you both, his thumb brushing over the crinkled edge of the paper. you let your head rest against jack's shoulder, your eyes tracing the familiar lines of your younger faces captured in a moment of pure bliss.
"i still remember that night. we were a lot younger, huh," you murmured, a soft wave of nostalgia hitting your chest as you looked at the way he was staring at you in the picture.
jack pressed a gentle kiss to the crown of your head, wrapping an arm around you to pull you closer against his side. "we were," he agreed softly, his voice thick with affection. "but i love this life we built even more."

nothing felt better than waking from a good night’s rest, with clean, soft covers draped over your body as the early morning sunlight wafted through the curtains of your bedroom. you could hear your husband out in the kitchen, the soft clanking of pots and pans a sign that he was preparing breakfast for you.
your meeting with jack was nothing short of unconventional. just a little over a year ago, you were nestled at a cramped but charming bar with your friends. it was one that had multicolored string lights wrapped around the pillars all-year-round, and tattered posters that had been permanently plastered to the walls.
thinking back to that time, you recalled how you couldn’t tear your eyes away from the handsome, older man sitting alone in the corner. you noticed the exhausted, but collected, expression he wore, and how he had his prosthetic leg off, casually propped on the empty seat next to him.
the rest of your night was spent staring at jack, up until one of your friends gave you a nudge to talk to him.
you remembered how you approached him with a shy greeting, making sure that your company wouldn’t be an intrusion. he offered you an easy smile in return, moving to reattach his prosthetic as you took the seat next to him.
the two of you briefly shared details about yourselves, a polite exchange before he suggested to head back to his place.
it was a lengthy, heated night spent in his bedroom. you’d never felt so pleased and desired, especially when comparing his performance to the guys your age.
you had made the decision to wake up early the following morning, giving him a brief kiss on the cheek as a goodbye, thinking that was all there was to your unforgettable one night stand. oh, how wrong you were.
the month after, your period was late. you remembered your friends teased you and joked about the chance you could be pregnant. you laughed it off at the time, waiting another week to see if your period would come—only it didn’t.
which led you to head to the local pharmacy next to your apartment, buying three different pregnancy tests to be sure. in your mind, you were already half-convinced that you simply missed your period for the month. after all, your cycles had been irregular every now and then. but it wouldn’t hurt to just be safe and check.
you dipped all three tests in your urine and left them on the counter before heading back out to the kitchen to toast your homemade bagels. you hummed happily as you assembled your bagel sandwich, plating it all nice and neat, before digging in.
you only remembered the pregnancy tests after you finished your at-home brunch. you dusted off your hands, giggling to yourself at your ridiculous predicament as you headed back into your bathroom. you were positive that there was absolutely no way there was a baby in your tummy.
you peered down at the sticks, your laughing coming to an abrupt silence as they all read the same result: pregnant.
“oh, fuck.”
you didn’t have a history of many sexual partners. in fact, you didn’t have sex that often at all. you recognized that there was only one explanation, or rather—one man—who could’ve contributed to your… condition. and that man was jack abbot.
you were lucky enough to remember where jack’s house was situated. your feet felt as though they weighed a ton, and your stomach churned, and twisted, and tied itself into knots as you trudged up his driveway.
you knocked on the door a few times, your eyes immediately tearing up at the sight of jack opening the front door.
“hey—woah, what’s wrong?” he asked, his hands easing you into the foyer.
his hair was mussed, and the prosthetic you saw him with last time was currently replaced by a hands-free crutch.
you recalled how he had mentioned he typically worked night shifts in the emergency department as a physician. a small part of you felt guilty for disturbing him, but the larger part of you was already crumbling under his gaze.
“i’m pregnant,” you croaked out, before erupting into a mess of tears and snot, your face slumping against his chest.
jack stiffened for only a second, before one of his hands gently cradled the back of your head, while the other rubbed your back.
“hey, shh… it’s okay. i’ve got you. everything’s alright. we’ll figure this out, hm?” he soothed, his voice low and steady.
after your breakdown, the two of you had an extensive conversation on the next steps to take. you were slightly unsettled by how calm jack was after the news, but endlessly grateful for his support once the two of you agreed to keep the baby.
the next couple months were a monstrous whirlwind of joy, fear, love, and frustration.
navigating your pregnancy was no easy task. it only got more exhausting after your parents found out and sprung an impromptu wedding ceremony on you and jack (which is a story for another day).
but through it all, jack remained a bright lighthouse through the turbulent storm, and by the time you neared the end of your pregnancy, you had happily adjusted into your new life.
and now, as you headed out of your shared bedroom with your husband, you couldn’t help but smile at the sight of your three-month old baby napping in the living room bassinet just a couple feet away from jack who was bustling around the kitchen.
“morning,” you greeted, giving his ass a playful pat.
“morning, sweetheart,” he replied, turning to plant a quick kiss on your forehead.
“thought i’d try making bagels from scratch,” he shared, nodding at the tray of dough that was laid out across the kitchen counter.
you laughed softly, reminded of the last time you had homemade bagels.
“mmm, looks good,” you praised, leaning against the counter as he filled you in on the different flavors he prepared.
your marriage definitely did not begin like the traditional stories you were fed as a kid. instead, it turned into something that far exceeded any fantasy you could have imagined. and now as you watched your husband go through the colorful arrangement of savory and sweet flavors, you knew you wouldn't trade a single moment of this for anything else in the world.
Love ittt
TEAR IN MY HEART
synopsisyou and Robby have always had an un-spoken understanding, that if you were two different people you'd fall in love. but he was a mess and refused to bring you down. so instead, fate threatens to take you away forever
warningsANGST. so much angst. stabbing. blood. near death. operations. typical hospital stuff but a happy ending
authornotethis is just completely ripped from that episode of ER when John Carter gets stabbed, like the medical talk is all from that. I also feel like this may be slight ooc robby cause I have struggle with how this man would be affectionate. i had a hell of a lot of fun writing this, angst is by far my favourite, i hope you like too
Pitt masterlist. Other Robby fic!
You weren't sure if it was the thumping in your head or the drum in your heart but you watched Robby closely. It could have been the injury to your head or the closeness of him that had your heart reacting in such a way.
You blamed it on the injury.

masterlist ♡ ko-fi
It had been a hellish day. Sweltering heat from outside had crowded the waiting room, slowly wafting into the ER. Patients were more aggravated than usual— that’s what heat does to people, you figured.
That’s what you kept telling yourself, at least. That everyone’s just tense and irritated from the heat— none of the abuse patients spewed at you was personal. They were just having a bad day.
But as more and more hours passed by, convincing yourself felt harder. You’d also gotten majorly embarrassed earlier in a trauma— you were trying to decide on how to treat the patient, and had stuttered through half your sentence. They went with someone elses idea instead. As soon as the patient was stable, you dipped out of the trauma room out of shame.
Jack had been there. Attendings often oversee traumas, obviously. He was trying to listen to your idea of treatment, when someone spoke over you. They were louder, which got the attention of the other doctors.
He saw you shrink back into yourself, and his heart broke a little. This was the first time he’d seen you try to take lead in a trauma for a while, and to see you get shut down like that? It made him angrier than he’d like. He tried to find you after, but no luck.
Until…
”There y’are…” He hummed quietly, hands behind his back as he approached you, watching your from hunched over the computer, typing up a chart (rather annoyedly, if he says so himself).
Your head tilted slowly, eyes catching his, before you turned back to the computer with a small hum. This had been your routine lately. He’d find you throughout the day, trying to spark up conversation.
You barely responded— still a little wary of him. It’s like you kept waiting for the other shoe to drop. As if he needed a reason to be talking to you.
”Y’know…” He gruffed, pulling up a stool to sit down next to you, eyeing the screen, ”I heard what you suggested in that trauma today. It was a really good plan.”
Like clockwork, your cheeks tinged pink. Like they did every single time Jack complimented you.
”Thank you.” You murmured, hands halting on the keyboard, as you angled your body just slightly toward him, ”But um…I think Ogilvie’s plan of treatment was good, too.”
Jack shrugged, a small frown on his face. ”Well, yeah. But, I think yours was better.” He whispered quietly, as if it was a secret between you two.
You couldn’t fight the small smile lifting up your lips. This is what Jack did. He made you feel seen and heard. He pulled you into traumas with him, leaned closer to hear you speak, to let you share your opinion.
Jack's eyes stayed on your for a while longer, before his teeth dipped into his lower lip, his gaze moving to the screen now instead, studying your notes. "Your charts are neat. Easy to read, nice job." He gently patted your shoulder then, before standing up with a small groan and walking off.
It took you another five minutes to recalibrate your brain and focus back on the chart.
The next time you saw Jack was in the breakroom— a sacred space that you were lucky enough to have a little time for. You weren't expecting Jack, though. You can hardly relax around him.
But it's weird. He doesn't make you anxious in the way others do. It's hard to explain what you feel around him. Safety? No, no, that's nonsense. He's just your attending. He has to praise you. That's how you learn, right?
You open the fridge and grab your little lunch box, the top of it decorated with all sorts of stickers, all mirroring your interests. You can practically feel Jack's eyes burning into you, as you sit down by the table, right across from him.
There's a small tremble to your hands as you pop open the box, simultaneously pulling your water bottle from your bag— that you'd grabbed from your locker.
"That's all you're having?" Jack murmured, eyeing the small sandwich and handful of crackers in your lunchbox.
You didn't want to tell him that that's all you could scrape together. How your rent was raised again, and you're too anxious to talk to your landlord about it. Or how you're still stuck paying your mother's car off, because you know she won't listen if you ask for her to start paying her own bills.
"Yeah." You nodded, taking a small bite out of the sandwich, "I had a big meal before work. So this'll hold me over, until I get home." The lies from you came naturally, something you were far too comfortable with.
Lying is safe. You don't want people to see what a lonely mess your life actually is. As if being a pushover at work isn't enough, you're a pushover all over.
Being stuck so deep in your thoughts, you barely register the fact, that Jack had gone all quiet, watching you with that ever-familiar furrow in his brows. You avoided his gaze, making quick work of finishing your small lunch, just so you could escape.
Something about Jack is unsettling. Not in a bad way. It's just...safe. Too safe. You almost find yourself wanting to unclench your jaw, to actually tell him the truth. But he's the one person whose noticed you, and you can't risk pushing him away with your baggage.
"See you out there." You murmur as soon as your lunch is finished, the empty lunchbox shoved back into your bag, as you hurry out of the breakroom with your water bottle in hand.
The next few hours go by in a blur. You can definitely feel a little gnaw in your gut, the pitiful sandwich not really satisfying your hunger. But you had to make do. Just for now, right?
Jack noticed. He noticed the small frown on your face, and the way your hand would settle on your stomach when it threatened to rumble. He saw you eyeing the vending machine, or looking dreamily at the other lunches in the fridge.
You were so obvious. He thought it was cute, really. But also sad. You were so used to being ignored, you were sure no one would notice anything you do. But he notices.
And Jack also knew you'd never ask for anything. But he's not sure if he can take any more of your sweet puppy eyes looking at the vending machine. The food in that machine is mediocre, at best. You deserve more.
So yes, maybe Jack did order food. And maybe he 'accidentally' ordered too much, and begged you to split the food with him. He didn't want it to go to waste, he says...
You reluctantly agree. You hate taking things from people, but you hate wasting food even more, so you sat down to eat with him. He handed you more and more, swearing that he wasn't even that hungry.
An hour later, you see him buying a sandwich from the vending machine.

ER wallflower - jack abbot.
in which jack abbot is the first to notice the wallflower resident of the ER.
summary; reader has always been used to being left behind, and eventually stopped trying to make space for themselves. she doesn't think anyone notices her, until jack abbot starts paying attention.
warnings; fem!reader. use of y/n, use of she/her, probably medical inaccuracies bc all my medical knowledge comes from shows lol, also NO AI used !!! i use em dashes sometimes but i PROMISE this is strictly a no-ai account!! also reader has a cat bc i said so
i might make a part two of this tbh but i wont label it as a series bc then my brain will start procastinating and i'll lose all motivation to write it LOL
The noise of the ER buzzed around you. The muscles in your neck ached, begging to be stretched and massaged. One of your hands came up to gently rub on your neck, the other slowly typing out the chart of your latest patient.
Some of the interns were huddled together, giggling to each other about something. It had become a habit of yours to listen in on them— on whatever gossip they had going on this time. Sometimes, you liked to pretend that you were part of it. That you got to gossip with friends just like they do.
That'd never been the case for you. In your intern year, you were the only one. Already feeling alienated, you struggled to find your place in the ER. Everyone seemed to already know who they were, aside from you.
For a while, you tried. You tried to include yourself. You joined the others when they went for a beer after a heavy shift. But as time went on, you didn't feel any closer to belonging. It didn't feel like anyone was making room for you either. So, you stopped showing up. And no one said anything.
Now, you just worked. You took all the patients no one else wanted. You stayed a little later to make sure another coworker could get home on time. You helped in traumas, then slipped away as soon as it was done.
This routine worked. It'd been your routine for years now. It wasn't that you were a bad doctor, no. You just didn't fit in.
A small wince covered your features as you rubbed your neck again. You truly couldn't wait to get off shift, and go home. You know your cat must already be sitting on the kitchen counter, waiting for the sight of you walking through the door.
"Nice catch, earlier." You heard a gruff voice behind you— one you recognized as your attending, Jack Abbot. Being the eavesdropper you are, you waited to hear the response of the person he was complimenting. You wondered if they'd be humble or gleeful. You know that if you were complimented like that, you'd be over the moon.
The light of the monitor made your eyes burn a little, but you just had to push through this last chart.
Then, you felt a hand tap your shoulder.
"Kid?" Dr. Abbot hummed, looking down at you, the corner of his lips quirking into a small smile. "Did'ya hear me?"
Your eyes go wide, and you swear you can feel your heart jumping up into your throat, making your breath hitch. He was talking to you. No one ever bothered talking to you, not if it wasn't necessary.
"I— er- sorry, what did you say, Dr. Abbot?" You cleared your throat, trying to get your heart to return to a normal pace, the chart all forgotten now.
He watched you for a moment, his gaze softening from playful to a more gentle one. "I said..." His hands gripped both ends of his stethoscope, the one he always had around his neck, "Good catch earlier. With the silent heart attack patient. Not many of us could've caught that."
The apples of your cheeks shifted into a deep red color, your eyes darting from him to your keyboard, then to your water bottle, the floor, keyboard, him...
"Oh- um, yeah, thank you, sir." You nodded in response, already mentally degrading yourself for being so awkward. This is your attending, for gods sake. You should be professional.
But that easy grin rested on his face, and he nodded. "Oh, sure, kid. You're one hell of a doctor. Keep it up." He gently squeezed your shoulder, and walked off. And that was that. He complimented you like it was nothing.
That simple compliment swam in your head the entire day. It made you smile as you prepared your lunch for work at home that evening. It made you hum with content as you settled into bed, curtains drawn shut to hide the rising sun.
Good catch earlier.
It started happening more and more. Abbot would pull you into traumas with him, let you take the lead on them, and then give you a small compliment, and one of those warm smiles. He'd linger when you charted, always trying to spark up small talk.
You never came out of your shell, though. It was driving him insane. He tried everything. But you always shut it down and got back to work. For a while, he thought you might just dislike him. But he could see the small smiles you gave him, and the pink tint in your cheeks at his compliments.
So, he tried asking the other residents about you. Imagine his shock when no one knew anything about you. Everyone just responded off-handedly.
'Oh, Y/N? Yeah, she's a quiet one. Dunno much about her.'
'Y/N? Great doctor. Haven't talked to her much.'
'Saw her a few times in her first year of residency. Then she stopped coming out.'
No one knew anything. That's what made Jack perk up a little more. He tried to subtly keep notes on you throughout the day. See who you spoke to. If maybe you left with someone. Maybe discussed patients. But he got nothing.
You were all alone.
The last straw was when he spotted you slipping into the abandoned wing of the hospital, settling yourself on the dusty staircase, and opening your lunchbox. You even hid away to eat.
He had to fix that.
So, he became a little more persistent. He'd ask you to eat lunch with him, and before you had a chance to decline, he'd already led you into the breakroom, making you sit down with one pinned stare.
He could tell you were a little anxious. So he always made the first move. He'd ask questions that required more than a nod for an answer, just to get you talking. And he would listen. Full attention, eyes glued to you the entire time you spoke.
No dismissive nods, no hums of acknowledgement in a way to just make you feel heard, no. He made sure you knew he was listening. When you mentioned your cat, he asked for its name. He asked to see pictures. When you made an offhanded complaint about the hospital coffee, he asked what your favorite coffee place was.
The next day, a coffee from said place was waiting for you.
