     London was wet and cold, as usual in the springtime. And yet, Rosalind found herself being shooed out of the house to go do womanly duties (she suspected her mother was trying to groom her for being a good housewife by making her go get the groceries) instead of being left to her own devices. It was hardly an exciting prospect, going to the market when there was work to do. 

     At least there wasn't much to bring home, and she'd decided to pick up a pack of gum, mainly because she could. Later, she could figure out a way to apply it to physics, but as she walked down the street, she was more concerned with blowing a bubble like she'd seen the other girls on the street do. She'd even managed to get the gum wedged between her tongue and her teeth in the precisely the right position... 

     But then, of course, Robert had to come and ruin her fun by sneaking up behind her and popping the bubble without any warning. She supposed her stern look was ruined slightly by the gum that had stuck to her lips, and she promptly raised her free hand to rub it off.
