midnight thoughts
We've become so used to be busy or stimulated constantly that now every time we have some alone time to JUST THINK, it ends up resulting in an identity crisis. we are seeing different kinds of people with, of course, a diversity of styles and personalities, which leads up to us thinking we are not cool or interesting enough. nonetheless, i promise that is not true. DIVERSITY IS WHAT MAKES US COOL AS INDIVIDUAL HUMAN BEINGS, being yourself may not seem cool to you, since you are constantly comparing yourself to everyone. However, what's not 'cool' enough for you may seem so fascinating or inspiring to somebody else.
remember that you don't know the impression other people have of yourself.
THE FEMALE GAZE DOES NOT EXIST.
since women are born, they are exposed to the media made to please and following the male gaze, so do men. both genders are constantly seeking for the validation of men.
MEN’S WORTH- BASED ON THEIR CAPITAL- THEY ARE CONSUMERS
WOMEN’S WORTH- BASED ON THEIR LOOKS- THEY ARE CONSUMED
moreover, if we look online, there’s many women comparing what is it like to dress for women and for men. vintage aesthetics are often shown as dressing for the nonexistent “female gaze”, however, what women don’t take accountability on is that those styles were also made to please men, they are performing for an echo of the male gaze.
lately we can see the terms “boy pretty” and “girl pretty” all over the internet, but, is “girl pretty” really a thing? both men and wemoen are attracted to really similar features, beauty is subjective but it is also strictly related to the male gaze.
“women tend to prefer skinny body types meanwhile men would rather curvier shapes”.
women are usually attracted to model’s figures because their pictures are made to be gazed by women, so that they project themselves in the picture and,m therefore, purchase the product. WOMEN TRANSFORM THEMSELVES AS AN OBJECT OF ENVY.
we think we are smarter than our society, but the patriarchy is far above us, there is no way of escaping it and every time we think we are far away from it, it is right behind us. we are born, made and raised to following the gaze, and we can’t deny it no matter how much effort we put into it.
even after recovering from anorexia, i still cannot help myself about seeking to look weak and sick.
illness as a metaphor of beautiful is a way of keeping women as the patriarchy's dolls, weak and slaves of the beauty standards.
we are emerging the "new 80s", the 2010s, an era where health and wellness was trending: pilates, bbls, fillers, curvy bodies and healthy food so as to enter the new heroin chick era.
people say that skinny is back but, honestly, it has never really been out. heroin chic and davide sorrenti's pictures have always been part of the 2014 tumblr community, even when, in the 2010s the "trend" was to be curly and healthy. it, of course, has a lot to do with eating disorders, however, it is related in way more ways that we think. for instance, i'd like to point out how society tends to ignore bulimia, whereas it is way more common statistically than anorexia: society prefers anorexia because it makes women weak, melancholic, pale, sick, disciplined and tragically beautiful. nonetheless, bulimia shows no self control, it is messy, but not in a beautiful way. i feel that this way of ignoring mia is directly related to "illness as a metaphor for beautiful" that comes from tuberculosis.
as someone with an eating disorder, heroin chic has genuinely ruined my life, since it was discovering it what caused my ed. however, it has become a big part of my aesthetic and interests, because heroin chic is so much more than just an aesthetic from the 90s. it is a lifestyle, it is the suffering and lives of many young people who had nothing but drugs and jobs in the fashion industry, because this has always been fucked up yet glamorized by the public. no one sees them as more than just public figures who look beautifully edgy and cool, that is why we seek to live like them, because how bad it is has never been really shown.
i'd say we should stop this, but, at this point, i think there is no way to make it stop.
eating disorders have always been there and will always be til the end of times, heroin chick and 2014 tumblr will never disappear because they are a big part of us as a society.
Cassie’s anorexia went beyond food. She wasn’t trying to look good physically; she was seeking love and acceptance from others. She wanted to be seen, it was her way of coping with her problems and feeling like she had control over something.
Cassie truly wanted to stop feeling. For her, eating meant feeling, and doing so implied having to confront situations.
It wasn’t just about controlling food anymore, but also everything around her: her relationships, her friendships, other people’s problems. She noticed the small things everyone else overlooked.
Feeling that she was helping and had control over other people’s problems not only comforted her, making her feel less out of control, but also made her feel accompanied. For once, she wasn’t the only one suffering; she took a certain pleasure in knowing that others were suffering too.

“you don’t have to look like the things you like”
sometimes we associate liking something with certain looks or personalities, however, it has nothing to do with that. hobbies are certainly subjective but, somehow, we need to reflect them in our appearance in order to feel accepted or welcomed by certain groups of people.
i have heard many times “do i look lesbian enough’, lesbianism is a sexuality, it has nothing to do with looks, nonetheless, we tend to classify people based off the way they dress or look. “he dresses like that, he must be gay then!” i feel like it helps us understand the world in a certain way, we do not know how to understand it without doing it.
having a notebook or a digital garden makes you individual as a person and, moreover, shows your interests, sense of creativity or critical thinking.
it is significative to write down your own opinions and be aware of what you are consuming; that is what makes us individual as human being.
we need to allow ourselves to stop and take some time to think about WHY we agree or disagree with something, to embrace our critical thinking and interests.
it is not about consuming less or consume just intellectual content, it is about being aware of what you are consuming and having an opinion on it. it is about writing down what it made you feel or little details you'd like to point out, that is what will let you create later.
Reblog if:
- You support recovery.
- You support those in recovery.
- You support seeking help.
- You want people to seek help.
- You think everyone is beautiful, regardless of their weight.
- Even if you yourself, aren’t seeking help or are in recovery, want others too.
do you wanna be free?
