15. a quick kiss

Tary dives into an alley, hoping to avoid line of sight of any of a hundred skeletons. Why was it that Vox Machina attracted trouble, even when they were officially retired? Apparently a necromancer had decided to take advantage of the relative chaos of Emon to steal some texts from what remained of the Alabaster Lyceum.

And then they decided to raise just…all the skeletons.

“You okay, Tary?” Percy asks, running down the wall. He’d been perched up on the roof, taking pot shots and calling plays for the spellcasters.

“Yes, fine. I’m just… I thought this was going to be a nice vacation.” Tary forces a smile and pushes his hair back with one hand.

“I know. But I’ll make your visit worth your while.” Percy leans in and kisses him, his hand flat against Tary’s shining breastplate. Then he pulls away, grins, and is off again, running straight up the wall.

Happy Easter everyone! My Bunny designs for all 4 campaigns are up as Keychains and Stickers through my acg store! This was a fun little exercise. Might loop back for some side characters. Maybe.

All I could think of when Matt did his romance cover/bishonen/ikemen (whatever you wanna call it) description of Percy during Smitten Scanlan-vision in the live game lol ^_^ It’s parts like this in CR that just remind me how much fun the cast has together, and that’s like 90% of what made it so great ^_^

Percy is covered with scars.

Tary doesn’t know what he was expecting, Percy is an adventurer. A real adventurer. They’d slain dragons. Beholders. Fiends of all shapes and kinds. But now, after their first fumbly exploration of each other–excitement and nerves more than inexperience–Tary is able to study him properly.

“Gods, what has happened to you?” Tary asks quietly, tracing a slash that crosses his collarbone. Some of the scars are distinctive, bullet wounds. Starbursts on his chest from the woman who Tary had never met but hated with a passion. Percy’s stomach is more scar tissue than skin, like he’d been nearly ripped in two.

(Tary, meanwhile, is soft. His hands are callused from his tools, but the rest of him is well fed and cared for. The contrast is stark to him.)

Percy blinks up at him, his eyes a little unfocused with his glasses off. It strikes Tary then, that Percy is a good decade younger than him. Ten years fewer, but so much more pain and life crammed into those years he had. “A lot of things, Tary. Most of it my own damned fault.”

“I don’t believe that.” Tary says, then leans in to kiss him gently. “You didn’t deserve any of it.”

Percy kisses him back, his hand coming up to hold the back of Tary’s neck, holding him close. “I don’t deserve you,” he murmurs.

They are like two apples tall, I think
