Running in circles on an elevator, Thinking I’m on a spiral staircase. Treading water like I’m about to drown, Only to realize I’m in the shallow end.

I have a way Of making things harder Than they actually are.

Pushing and pulling on that automatic door. Running up and up and up When I’m on the down escalator. Putting pedal to the metal Only to realize I’m not in a race.

Sometimes I wonder If I’ll ever learn. But the sad truth, Mind you, Is that I am this way for a reason. The truth is It’s because I’m used to it.

Used to drowning in the deep end. Used to running up that spiral staircase Just to push and pull And knock and knock On a door that will always be Locked. Used to being The last one in the race.

Always the last. Always the one who got lost Along the way.

They say it’s because I’m an overthinker, An overachiever, An overly sensitive, Overly negative Overly, overly, Overly Soul.

And yeah, They might have a bit of a point, I’ll admit. But sometimes — Maybe just once in a while — It might be nice If someone tapped me on the shoulder When I’m running circles on an elevator And reminded me It’s okay To just stop And breathe.
