Harry knew immediately whose hair it was. He had stared at that slicked back platinum blonde hair too many times to not recognise it. Only problem was, it was on his head, not Malfoy’s.
Harry had woken up like any other day, not sensing anything out of the ordinary. That is, until he’d caught sight of his brand new hairdo in the bathroom mirror.
Ron walked in a second later. He took one look at Harry and started laughing hysterically. “What did you do?”
“I didn’t do anything. I just woke up with Malfoy’s hair.”
“Malfoy’s?” Ron stopped laughing to take a closer look. “Holy shit. It is! It’s Malfoy’s hair! What did you do that for?”
Percy poked his head into the bathroom. “Quiet down, you two. I’ve an appointment with– what on earth did you do to your hair, Harry?”
“Well, now I understand the commotion,” Percy said, stepping uninvited into the bathroom. “It doesn’t suit you at all. Just keep it down. The new Minister for Muggle Relations will be here any minute and I don’t want him to think ill of our household.”
“Why is he coming here?” Ron asked.
“If you must know,” Percy said with a smug look, “the Minister for Magic herself asked me to act as escort in case the new Minister ran into any trouble on his first day.”
“What kind of trouble?” Harry asked, forgetting his hair for a moment. “Who is it?”
Percy raised his eyebrows conspiratorially and mimed zipping his lips closed before disappearing into the corridor.
“He can’t know who it is, otherwise he’d have already rubbed our faces in it,” Ron muttered, staring after Percy with a scowl. He turned back to Harry. “You think Malfoy cursed you?”
“Why would he want me to have his hair?” Harry asked. He thought back to how precisely Malfoy styled it back at Hogwarts, never a single hair out of place. “I always thought he was rather fond of it.”
Ron snorted. “I think you’ll find he’s also rather– ”
“Why are you two always hogging the– what the fuck?”
“Language, Ginny!” called out Molly Weasley from downstairs. She had a way of sensing curse words even if you were at opposite ends of the house.
Ginny rolled her eyes. “What the fuck– ” she repeated in a whisper– “did you do to your hair?”
“It’s not you at all,” Ginny agreed, giving Harry a once over. “You look like a right prat.”
“She’s right, mate,” Ron agreed.
“Well,” Harry said, starting to get annoyed, “how do I– “
A loud crack filled Harry’s ears and more bright red hair appeared in his peripheral vision.
“Harry, you little devil.”
Harry turned to George. “Is this one of your pranks?”
“I wish I could take credit,” George said, reaching out to ruffle Harry’s head. “You look hot.”
“Stop flirting with Harry,” Ron said behind them.
“Yeah,” Ginny joined in, “you’re making him blush.”
Harry shot daggers at Ginny. She was right of course. “Isn’t anybody going to help me?” He asked the bathroom of Weasleys desperately.
“Yeah, this is too funny.”
Harry turned to Ron for help. His best friend would surely be able to do something. But Ron only shrugged.
“And now my hair has been magically fixed with the power of your shrug,” Harry said sarcastically. “Thanks.” He stomped out of the bathroom and made his way downstairs.
