The crowd roared in confused enthusiasm as Tenna gave a gracious flurry of low-FPS bows, pausing only for the occasional stink-nose at his audience plants who weren’t throwing enough 3D roses.
Eventually, the room fell silent. It was Senshi’s turn to speak.
He puffed out his chest, took a long, sweeping look over the audience… and shook his head.
“I can see not all of you are eating properly.”
The crowd murmured with embarrassment.
“I don’t know who needs to hear this, but it’s time to take the turkey out of your icebox. I have seen the ingenious technology with which your people store food... and I have also seen the waste which results from such convenience.
“The food you take had a life. Beasts grew fat on the grass of the field, plants grew from the sun’s rays, and mushrooms grew from minerals in the cracks of caves. And yet, it sits in your iceboxes, collecting moisture until it perishes.
“Eat what is given to you. Because its life will make you stronger, too.”
Without another word, Senshi left his podium and stepped away from the stage. The crowd murmured in confusion. “Is he really like that?” somebody said. “I only remember reblogging the photosets of him tripping and showing ass.”

Back in the Green Room, Tenna wrung his antennas nervously.
“Y-y-you think they liked me!? They HAD to!! I mean, I don’t know what Asgore was thinking, getting that weird haircut and running that food waste campaign, but… YOU thought I did good, didn’t you, Kris?”
Laios nodded aggressively, a streak of blue face paint peeling from his forehead.
“You did AMAZING, Tenna! By the way, now that we’ve seen all your insider campaign secrets, do you have any more videos of Susie? Especially her tail... If I could get a look at that, I could finally tell if she’s a dinosaur or --”
THWACK. Fake antlers butted Laios’s head.
“LAIOS?? Weren’t we dressed up to help SENSHI???” Marcille hissed, gesturing awkwardly with her hooves.
Suddenly, Tenna turned to the two adventurers.
“Hey, WAIT a second. SOMETHING’s not right here...”
Laios and Marcille held their breath.
“Where the heck are my POINTS!?”
Just then, the door opened. Chilchuck took one step into the room, whistling and holding a large bag.
Everyone turned to him.
Chilchuck paused, took a step backwards, and closed the door.
“CHILCHUCK!!!” yelled Tenna.
“How come Chilchuck got to stay Chilchuck!?” yelled Marcille at the same time.

Meanwhile, in outer space somewhere, some guy was making out with a rock.
do not get me wrong here. Senshi is a beautiful man. A sexy man, even. But a “tumblr sexyman” he is not. first and foremost the hallmark of a tumblr sexyman is going to be “you want to fuck That?”. You do not Make something a tumblr sexyman on purpose. “Lets make senshi a tumblr sexyman so theyre not all white and skinny” defeats the point. And do not get me wrong! There is something to be said about how the majority of non-human characters in fandom(bill cipher, wheatley, purple guy, etc) get interpreted as skinny white men…white majority fandom spaces, yknow? Anyways my point is. Tumblr sexyman is an observational category. Do you see people making hyper specific aus of senshi to the point that he might as well be someone’s oc? No…but you know who they are doing this to…? Tenna. He needs to win that tumblr sexyman poll. Ryland grace has nothing on him. I’m begging
I have more thoughts on the matter. The status of “tumblr sexyman” is almost never a measure of the quality of the character itself. It’s always been the fandom response. I’m going to compare Senshi to Sans Undertale because unlike all the guys on any tumblr sexyman list, sans isn’t a skinny white guy and thankfully isn’t portrayed as one, shockingly. Someone in the tags mentioned that liking tumblr sexymen has a certain level of theater kid esque indulgence/shame to it. Sans is a cartoon skeleton and every who likes him knows it. I don’t think anybody is doing “hear me outs” on senshi because he’s already hot. You know you’ve hit gold on a tumblr sexyman if the character itself is producing its own fandom largely divorced from the source material. People making extensive AUs where different sans interact with each other, “sans fangirls” being a thing, sans himself being a meme outside of being an undertale fan, making up lore about the skeletons in general and making skeleton ocs…the list goes on. With all due respect I earnestly do not think this is happening with Senshi! And again, none of this has to do with the quality of their characters, they are both excellent characters. I think part of this is due to the fact that Dungeon Meshi already has such an established world that taking a character and running with it would feel out of place. I’ve seen Kabru get more of a tumblr sexyman treatment than Senshi does.
Putting Tenna side by side to sans, and people are doing the exact same thing. “Spamtenna” feels like its own fandom. People are drawing Tenna shipped with himself. People are drawing yuri of him for crying out loud (something to be said about fandom caring more about yuri versions of men over canon female characters but that is a discussion for another time). People like The Character so much they are doing literally anything with him! Even with Tenna thankfully the times are changing, his most popular human interpretations aren’t even white.
Maybe it isn’t fair to allude to Sans when talking about Tenna because they’re both made by the same guy, and similar fandoms are going to have a similar response to these kinds of quirky characters, but I digress. The fact that Tenna fans on twitter are drawing him pathetically begging for him to be voted for, in increasingly skimpy outfits, speaks volumes

Something I haven't seen people talk about a lot is the connection between Asgore and the classic Achilles mythos. Achilles killed Hector and dragged his body around the walls of Troy as revenge for killing Patroclus
aYO thats mad interesting :0!! Admittedly I didn't make that connection, what an interesting parallel to see. Another thing about that story is that Hector tries to flee from Achilles in a surge of fear seeing the man approach him. Like if I were Kris and I heard my dad is ready to straight up murder whoever made the fountain, I'd be a lil fearful too.
First, icarus parallel with spamton, this parallel with asgore, Queen's beta design having a medusa look to her, its neat to see greek mythos pop up in deltarune
Somethin I learned from a mythos class is that myth is so ingrained into culture and the art of storytelling that whether you mean to or not, elements of past myths end up showing up in your story and I think thats pretty neat
So now that you (supposedly) finished chapter 5, what are your final thoughts on Flowery and the other flowers?

FLOWERS THOUGHTS AND OVERALL CH 5 THOUGHTS:
I really really enjoyed this chapter!! I haven't played it myself yet so I can't speak on gameplay, but story-wise/character moments-wise, I really enjoyed it! And I LOOOOOVE THE FLOWERS. They all have such cute and funny chemistry, and its a CRIME they can't join castletown. (like I understand why but I'm GREEEEDY)
Prob predictable, but Yellow is my favorite, nooo dont kill yourself, you're so funny haha. Tho Green is my absolute homie.
As for Flowery, I was a hater like Ralsei at first, especially wanted to pummel the twink when he told Kris they made their own dad miserable. But damn, from just before his boss fight and especially during and after, I ended up really respecting the dude. He really did care for his friends and just wanted to give back the love Asgore poured into them over the years. Toby fox is EVIL for getting me to like the dude MINUTES before he straight up died god damn.
Speaking of Asgore;
He's a god of a gardener to be able to keep flowers alive for over 20 years
I LOOOOVE what this ch did with his character!! We finally get to see a side of him that we've never been able to, even in undertale. And that's he's VENGEFUL and PISSED. The piece of dialogue where he said he's going to straight up KILL the fountain maker and drag their corpse AROUND TOWN was so so cool, awesome, and scary
Also neat to learn the divorce happened cause of his self-hatred spiral
Other stuff I like about this chapter:
love LOVE Ralsei's hater arc, funny as hell to see this kid get so huffin mad over this twink and overall great character growth for the kid (tho really their discussion on what fountains should be left open is fascinating)
trans ralsei canon?! how neat! (from flowery calling him princess to asgore they/theming him whoa.)
susie and noelle are SOOOO CUUUTE OUUUUGH but also oh my god kris :""""(
susie considering castletown her safest home shatters my heart, oh my god girl how horrific is your actual home life
this chapter easily has been my favorite when it comes to portraits, Im so happy they really been pushing to make them so funny, so many of them gave me a real good laugh

Some wee complaints I do have for the chapter:
once again, I havent played it so who am I to have a hard judge on it, but just watching my friend, god damn does this ch kick your ass. NOW I DONT WANT THE GAME TO BE ON BABY EASY MODE, like I think its fine for bosses to kick your ass, I always thought (mostly ch 1 + 2) bosses were too easy. But normal enemies were putting my friend thru the wringer, I get we're past the halfway mark but it's a real sudden incline in difficulty, you know? So I think normal enemy damage output could be tweaked sliiiightly down or be a lil more generous with getting healing items (cause damn this is the first ch where it feels like you're starved for it)
Listen, I love the setting, it's gorgeous and I love every enemy thrown our way. But seriously why are we in japan? Every ch before has made sense in its setting; Ch 1 is a kingdom cause it revolves around the royalty of cards, Ch 2 is a city cause the internet can easily be seen as this metropolis of ads and play (also routers kinda look like city buildings), Ch 3 is a TV studio because the main man is a TV, thats where they film the everything, Ch 4 is a church cause...well its in the church and its about deltarune's religion, then theres Ch 5. We're in japan because...? Asgore has a mewmew figure and the superhero comic that turned out to be a manga? ok? If toby wants a Japan-based setting thats FINE, but I wish there was more justification to it. Cause over the chapters it kept mentioning how Asgore likes cowboys and listens to country music, things that woulda pointed to more western theming, but we only see that with Yellow. And ok sure, Kris is the one that opened the fountain, but still we dont really see them be a weeb over the course of the game, the exact opposite in fact. I'm not asking to completely change the darkworld, just more set dressing in Asgore's shop, like more memorabilia; hell could maybe change the country cds in his truck to j-pop or somethin.
that's all I can think of rn with my thoughts about ch 5, overall I had a good time! I gotta play it myself to really see where I'd put it in my tier list of chapters
