unhappy side effect of "morally ambiguous" being treated as the pinnacle of writing is that you will often be made to experience what a not so talented writer with big aspirations thinks is morally ambiguous
O.C stuff!!! Life must be so easy when you're a lil stupid
99% of queer discourse stops right before they define the true difference between bisexual and pansexual!

I'm always trying to limit the amount of clunkiness in morrowind that I apologise for as a product of its time, and in practice this looks like pointing new players towards the manual before trying to explain anything, because it's actually an incredibly casualised and approachable game for its era. it's simplified to the point where I don't think that hyping it up as an impenetrable monolith of bygone design does anything but make people less receptive to games with actual friction
a lot of its most arbitrary mechanics are the result of it trying to simplify a system that was much less approachable to a casual audience before it. almost all of its biggest problems (barring actual bugs) are in what it does automatically while smoothing over a crunchier system (see: attack types, or how it tries to increase your attributes automatically in ways that can fuck up your health pool)
this is also, generally speaking, why morrowind's initial reception was one of mainstream and fandom positivity along with complaints from a core crpg audience. that seems unthinkable now, but you can't really achieve an understanding of a game (that is, to meet a game on its own terms) if you place every 20+ year old game into an amorphous mass of "it is old, and old games were harder"
you also see this with, to pull an incredibly adjacent example, world of warcraft. part of understanding what it's actually doing requires you to understand what systems from everquest it is abridging, so you can properly appreciate what design decisions the developers were making beyond "they didn't know what they were doing yet" or "we've forgotten how to do things like this"
while it's true that over-contextualising older games can lead to you forgetting that there isn't an expiration date on the experience of artwork, it's also true that the body of conversations which makes up genre should not be ignored when trying to read for intent
it's like trying to understand fine dining without wanting to listen to the explanations of what you're eating, and what you should be tasting for. things are often greater than the sum of their parts in a way which cannot be retrieved without really considering what you're expected to notice
and of course, extrapolating all that a bit, I think that the best way to experience an older game for the first time is to book club it. it helps to have at least one person around who's played it before, along with several people who have not, so that you can cross-reference things and briefly emulate the sort of conversational space that surrounds games when they initially release
which is like, true of all games, especially computer rpgs, and it's kind of an anomaly for them to be considered things you can run into completely blind and alone these days

You may think this was brazilians reaction to the winning goal but nope this was brazilians reaction when Germany got eliminated by Paraguay
I must post TOO ASS! at every opportunity because the source video has since been deleted so I think this is the only proof TOO ASS! ever existed
I do think the ability to emoji-react is a net win for human communication. not only does it give you an outlet for 'I see and acknowledge this but don't have a verbal response' but it also adds a pleasing alethiometer element to things
my coworker announces that he's off to the dentist. someone reacts with a tooth emoji. is this a statement of dentist solidarity? a wish for my coworker to return with more (or fewer?) teeth than he set out with? simple word association? who can say
"Game maker wants you to feel bad for playing the game" well sure. Only because feeling bad can also be fun and interesting. Book and movie also make me feel bad emotions
Sure the media might be making you feel bad for being the audience of the media but the artist made the thing for you to engage with and wants you to engage 90% of the time. At most they want you to introspect about fiction and your relationship to it and if there's anything bad about it. But not actually turn off the game. Its fun to feel bad. Honestly I like when creators hate their audience and spit malice at me directly as well. Slay

It's been years and I still haven't found a single sentence on Wikipedia I like more than this one. and quickly learned how to breakdance. The simple statement. Action, result, reaction. White boy stuns latinos. Quickly. His white ass got there and said I need to have something to keep me from being All the White People, and I'm clearly not a boy of combative strength. Breakdancing bluelinked as the perfect little punctuation, reminding you that it is a rich art and sport, making you consider the sort of undertaking that would be. I like this sentence more than some Beck songs.
Hey everyone. There's a new youtube feature that rolled out just yesterday that's raising some privacy concerns.
People in the U.S., U.K., Brazil, and Singapore can now share videos and chat with friends directly within the YouTube app. The update bring
This post talks about a new DM feature in youtube. What it fails to mention is that as part of this new feature is that when you send someone a link to a video, and they open it in the youtube app, they will see who sent them the link. Specifically, your channel name.
If your google account name is your real name, so is your channel name by default.
This means the new default behavior is that everyone you send a youtube link to will see your full name if they open it in the mobile app.
To turn this off:
Go to your youtube app settings
Go to Privacy
Turn off "Channel visibility for shared links"
Trimming the source id (the stuff after the '?' in links) will also prevent this from happening.
