THIS JUST IN: When Finn is portrayed and written as a damsel in distress for Rey in fandom, it's completely fine and empowering because Rey is the "real hero" and Finn is just the "innocent smol precious harmless cinnamon roll." But when Finn rescues Rey because he cares about her and loves her, it's completely offensive and sexist and makes her a damsel in distress and destroys her character completely and gives into "toxic black masculinity" ~ white feminist #37541097

I always feel that white feminists have this really reductive idea of what makes a good female hero and it always entails being perfect and never getting any help from anyone. And they've tried the apply that to Rey but it just doesn't fit, and it's doing her a disservice.

It’s the same thing that leads so-called feminists to write Lois Lane off as a damsel-in-distress. If Rey really was super great at everything and didn’t ever need help from anyone, she actually WOULD be a Mary Sue. Fortunately that’s not what we got in TFA and I doubt that’s what we’ll see in VIII either.

I kind of expect team Rey/Finn to get beaten by Kylo in VIII if VIII is to parallel ESB. I'ts like that for second chapters of most trilogies anyway Just hope the character dev is well written for all.
