🎃 Thought I’d post something a little different today! 🎃 I visited @sutinwalter last week in San Diego, and during my visit he got us pumpkins to carve! It was really fun. See what @sutinwalter carved in the last slide. For my pumpkin, I referenced a card from Lotería — a Mexican card game of chance. “La Tóxica” (The Toxic One) is a card featured in modern editions of the game (I think? I don’t know much about the game 😬). I’ve never played it before, I’ve just seen the imagery of the game used on pottery and other merchandise. Anyway, I haven’t carved a pumpkin since like 4th grade! So it was really fun. Very good for my inner child. It makes me sound really boring, but tbh, I’ve avoided celebrating holidays (even my birthday lol) for the past like 5+ years. I don’t talk to most of my family, so it’s been easy to skip all that. But I’m realizing how important it is to commemorating the passage of time. It’s wholesome stuff. It makes you feel good. Anyway, now that I’m back in Texas, I’m back to work on my @fantagraphics book! Plucking away! It’s gonna feel so so so good when it’s all done. I’m so excited! ••••••••••• #fantagraphics #halloween #pumpkincarving #pumpkin #traditions #innerchild #carving #linocut #Lotería #sandiego #texasart #texasartist #LaLotería #fall #latóxica #jackolantern (at San Diego, California) https://www.instagram.com/p/CkKR5tHNA5W/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
