considering they all got axed from VPR between seasons and the reasons why are never explicit within the world of the show, it is kind of wild that stassi, kristen, Jax and Brittany were all rehired by bravo within 5 years. what was even the point? we do really need a new and more accurate term for cancel culture. Hiatus culture. Honorary pause culture. Wrist slap culture. Etc

also, I think one positive development of reality tv in the last few years is a willingness/allowance for cast members to be more meta and to reference the show while on the show. producers finally accepted that fourth wall breaks add to the realism rather than detract from it. SLOMW is obviously the front runner for this but now you can see it leaking into other more longstanding shows where it previously was taboo (eg kyle in the current season of rhobh using “the cameras don’t lie” to try to win a who-said-what argument. and how the phrase”bring it to camera” has become commonplace). It feels like a shame that this shift hadn’t happened by 2021 bc I think you really need the remaining VPR cast members to discuss onscreen the fact that half of their friend group has abruptly disappeared in disgrace. Completely avoiding the subject feels so weak and dramaless. As if that wouldn’t be all Katie was thinking about the entire time.
