“…And, in other news, today is the fifth anniversary of the defeat of Team Rocket in Johto. There are many parades and celebrations for the heroes Tobi and Grace, and we thank them once again for their service.” Belle looked up at the news excitedly at the mention of the two Pokémon trainers- they had been her role models since she was eleven. They had beat Team Rocket together, with very little interference from the police, and then had gone on to become the Champion and a top Breeder, respectively.
Sighing, the brunette gathered up the plates at the table she was working on. She was at her job, after all, and couldn’t exactly be slacking. It wasn’t a very important day for her, after all, so she hadn’t taken the day off.
“Hey, Belle! What’s up?” The chef, Flora, called to her as she walked behind the counter to drop the plates off.
“Not much, it’s kind of a slow day. My shift ends soon though, and the Professor wants all four of us for some reason, so my day is sure to get more exciting after that.” Belle shrugged; she belonged to a group of four teenagers studying under Professor Sycamore, and usually they only met once a month. But she had gotten a text from Trevor earlier that there was a meeting at their usual café later on.
“Ah, have fun! Say hello to my dear brother for me.” Flora laughed, and Belle smiled. Her friend’s younger brother, Trevor, was also in the group.
“Alright,” she called over her shoulder as she walked out of the kitchen- and right into someone else, before falling over. “Hey! Watch where you’re going!” She hissed.
The boy glared at her- he appeared to be about her age, and had lovely blue eyes. “What do you mean? You bumped in to me.”
“You’re the one who walked in front of me!”
The boy was about to respond, but was cut off by Belle’s manager approaching. “Belle? What are you doing? Help this young man up, then leave. It’s the end of your shift anyway.”
Belle muttered briefly under her breath as he walked away again, then stood up and held out a hand.
“I’m fine. Sorry for causing a commotion; I didn’t realize how pretty you were.” The boy grinned slyly at her as he stood up. Belle was disgusted; he caused a scene, then flirted with her? What was he thinking?
“I accept your apology, but please don’t.” She grumbled at him, sending a weak glare before starting to walk off.
“Wait! I’m sorry, I couldn’t help it. But do you know how to get to, um,” here, he checked his Holo Caster for something, “the Lily Café?”
She sighed, turning back to him. “Yeah; walk out of here, take a left, and then a right. It’ll be at the end of the street.”
“Alright, thanks. Catch ya later!” He waved, heading out the door. Belle shook her head before heading to get changed.
The bell jingled lightly as she walked in the café, looking around for her friends. A call attracted her attention. “Belle! Belle!” Shauna was waving her hand and calling loudly from a table in the corner, bouncing up and down.
“Hey, Shauna!” Belle laughed, hugging her friend and sitting down. “And Trevor and Tierno, of course.”
“Hey.” Tierno murmured, and Trevor smiled at her. Belle smiled a little wider upon realizing that they were holding hands under the table, but didn’t mention it, knowing that they were still shy about their relationship.
“So where is the Professor?” She questioned, looking around.
“Ah, well, you see, Trevor knows more about that, but he refuses to tell us.” Shauna sighed, sending a look in Trevor’s direction.
“I found out by accident anyway, and he asked me not to tell you!” Trevor protested.
“Oh well; but, to answer your question, not here yet.” Shauna waved a hand. “Also, since you were last, you’re paying for our drinks!”
Belle stared at Shauna levelly. “Actually, no, I had work, which makes me exempt from your fun, remember?”
Shauna pouted. “Damn it. I was last before you… Trevie, can you please lend me some money? I’ll pay you ba-”
“It’s not polite to lie, Shauna.” Chuckled a new voice, startling everyone.
“Oh! Professor! I, um, of course,” Shauna blushed and ducked her head.
“Hey, Profes- what are you doing here?” Belle shrieked, glaring at the boy standing next to the Professor, who looked equally as flabbergasted.
“What are you doing here?”
“Woah, unexpected sexual tension with the new guy already, Belle? That’s moving fast, especially for you.” Shauna grinned, looking between the two.
They spluttered and blushed, trying to explain themselves while the Professor just sighed. “Shauna, that’s mean. But yes, for those of you that didn’t know, Benjamin here is joining our group. And just in time, too- your next meeting is our final one!”
“Already?” Belle forgot about her new little problem almost immediately as she bounced out of her seat.
“Yes, already! I’m sure your parents and guardians will love to hear that. Benjamin has already taken the majority of his schooling while in Johto from Tobia and Grace.” Sycamore explained.
Belle gasped. “You mean, like, the Tobi and Grace?”
Ben smirked. “Yeah, why?”
She glared at him, the effect of his schooling wearing off. “Well, clearly your parents didn’t do a very good job of raising you. Smirking is rude.”
“And so is arguing with a lady,” Shauna interjected, rolling her eyes. “Arceus, you two, just get a room.”
“Shauna, please stop being rude.” Tierno sighed.
“Alright, dad,” Shauna laughed. “Anyway, I’m taking drink orders now.”
There was a brief commotion as everyone ordered, and Ben and Belle glared at each other as they realised that they both ordered hot chocolate.
“So, you all know the time of next meeting, right?” Professor Sycamore looked around as everyone sat down. There were murmurs of agreement all around. “Alright then, that’s all for today. Belle, I want you to get Ben to his house- it’s that street off yours. I’ll see you all Saturday!” He left with his coffee in hand.
Both mentioned groaned. “Why do I have to take him?”
“Ben, you’re a rude shit.” Belle glared at him.
“That’s very rude, idiot.” Shauna kicked Belle.
“Everyone, stop fighting, you’re annoying.” Trevor snapped.
Shauna and Belle mock gasped. “Mom, that’s mean!” Shauna whined.
“Stop insinuating that we are your parents!”
“Trevor, I think that’s a battle you lost a while ago, in all honesty.” Belle shook her head.
“I- well- you guys are mean!” The redhead pouted, glaring at them.
Shauna hummed in agreement. “True. But I believe it’s time for me to get going- my mother needs help with something later, and the sooner I get home the better. Bye!” She waved before standing up and leaving.
“Wait, what time is it? It’s already five? Gosh, Trev, we have to go! My mother wants to go to grandma’s tonight!” Tierno shooed Trevor out of the café with rushed goodbyes, leaving only Ben and Belle.
“Ugh, let’s get going. It’s a long walk to Vaniville from here.” Belle sighed, resigning herself to her fate.
“If you say so,” Ben stood up and started following her.
It was a long walk- the two really could not stand each other, so it was awkwardly silent the entire time. Belle was glad when they reached her house. “Alright, so your street is that one right there. I guess I’ll see you around.”
“Guess so; see ya later, Belle.” Ben walked off quickly, leaving Belle to head inside her house and ponder over the interesting events of the day.
I swear I wasn't dead. Just had writer's block.
But here we go- the (somewhat tentative, still unedited) first chapter of a Pokemon fanfic! Heh, heh... but yeah
Based off two characters and the adventures of my friend and I as we do a Wedlocke through Kalos, but the Wedlocke will be more like a Nuzlocke in the fic bc it's hard to explain
