I don't think I ever understood Beloved's driven purposefulness in shifting the wheel of time as well as I do now after meeting Kennit Ludluck. Of course, as Beloved explains to Fitz, events repeat and evil prevails when the wheel of time is not shifted. We see instances of the cycle repeating in Fitz's very own life, e.g. his loneliness as a child and then Dutiful's. But when Etta told Kennit that she's pregnant, although Kennit's first thoughts were of his happy memories with his parents, he then immediately brushed those aside and thought "i will have to hurt my son. Because i have become Igrot he must become Kennit and i will have to hurt him." He doesn't want to. But he feels like it's his destiny, because he's trapped in a cycle and the wheel of time has not yet shifted. There will be no escape for him or his son. And that's why the wheel of time must be shifted from his course, to allow for a better future, a new future, and not just a recycled past.

Thinking about Winthrow and Kennit so much lately. Incredible writing there, never have I felt such pity for such an awful, terrible man in any piece of fiction

I love a character who is always having a bad time. You pick up the book and go hey, bud, how you doin in there, and the answer is bad. Really puts your life in perspective.

i love it and hate it when a character in a story is so obviously created to be cool and awesome and then i do think they're cool and awesome. like fuck, yeah, ok, they're fucking epic. swag as hell. you got me you coolbaited me ok? i'm coolbaited.
