I have not performed a cord-cutting myself, however, I can give you a rough outline on how I've seen them be performed.

you'll need:

two candles - one representing you, and the other representing your target. annoint each candle with corresponding oils/herbs based on your intentions (was this a romantic relationship, or a friendship? or, perhaps was it a familial relationship? these are all questions that will help you choose your oils/herbs)

fire safe dish

"cord" or string

scissors

lighter/matches; something to light the candles

step-by-step:

place both candles on the fire-safe dish, wrapping the cord around the two candles. they should be ~6 inches apart, with the string connecting the candles like a bridge.

light your candles, meditating on your intent/chanting/do whatever you typically would do during your spellwork

NOW, here's where my opinion may differ from other's: cut the cord between the two candles with a pair of scissors and allow them to burn down completely.

most practitioners would instruct you to light the candles, and wait until the flame catches fire to the cord, eventually burning the cord itself. however, this is simply a form of divination. when you are watching these candles burn, without actually severing the cord yourself, all you're doing is watching the development of the relationship. by cutting the cord yourself, with a pair of scissors, you are actually performing the cord cutting.

Angelica: Mainly used in protection rituals, protects against negative energies and attracts positive energies. Can be used to remove curses, hexes.

Anise Seeds: Stimulates psychic abilities and wards off evil eyes.

Basil: A good protection herb. Can be used in rituals for protection, exorcism and love.

Bay Laurel: Mainly protection and purification. Stimulates psychic abilities and promotes success. Protects against baneful magick. Writing wishes and burning the leaf is a good manifestation technique.

Black Pepper: Promotes courage and helps banishing negative vibrations.

Catnip: Provides protection in sleep. Enhances beauty and can be used in love magick.

Cedar Wood: Promotes confidence and strength. Can be used in protection and purification rituals.

Chamomile: Reduces stress. Can be used in love and healing rituals.

Chili: Mainly used for hex breaking. Promotes love and fidelity.

Cinnamon: Mainly used for luck and prosperity. A good herb for protection as well.

Clove: Mainly used for exorcism. Also promotes love, money, and protection.

Coffee: Used for grounding. Dispels nightmares.

Daisy: Promotes love, luck, and innocence.

Damiana: Mainly used in love rituals. Can be used to increase psychic abilities.

Frankincense: Mainly used for cleansing and purification. Can be burned for protection and meditation.

Garlic: Mainly used for protection and exorcism. Can also be used for healing and purification.

Ginger: Promotes sensuality, sexuality and personal confidence.

Lavender: Mainly used for love, protection, healing, sleep, purification, and peace. Promotes healing from depression.

Mint: Promotes energy, communication and vitality.

Mistletoe: Used for fertility, creativity and protection from negative spells.

Onion: Used for prosperity, stability, endurance, and protection.

Oregano: Promotes joy, strength and vitality.

Rose: Magickal uses include divine love, close friendships, domestic peace.

Rosemary: Carried and used in healing poppets for good health, used in love spells, burned as incense for purification and removing negativity.

Sage (Keep in mind that white sage is endangered and closed): Used for self purification and dealing with grief and loss. Carried to improve mental ability and bring wisdom.

St. John’s Wort: Protects against all forms of black witchcraft. Used for banishing, protection & blessing.

Star Anise: Burned as incense to increase psychic awareness & abilities.

Sugar: Used in love spells and sex magick.

Thyme: Attracts loyalty, affection, and the good opinion of others. Burn or hang in the home for banishing and purification.

Tobacco: Promotes peace, confidence, and personal strength. Also used for banishing.

A Spell to Defend One’s Home from Intruders

When midnight drew near, and the robbers from afar saw that no light was burning, and that everything appeared quiet, their captain said to them that he thought they had run away without reason, telling every one of them to go and reconnoiter.

So one of them went, and found everything quite quiet. He went into the kitchen to strike a light, and taking the glowing fiery eyes of the cat for burning coals, he held a match to them in order to kindle it. But the cat, not seeing the joke, flew into his face, spitting and scratching.

This spell works best if a bit of cat hair or a naturally-shed cat’s claw can be obtained, but substitutions can be made, particularly if the caster suffers from allergies!

In a glass bottle or small jar, combine the following:

Palmful of Juniper Berries

Pinch of Cumin

Spoonful of Red Peppercorns

10 Small Pins, preferably rusted or bent

Seeds of 1 Hot Pepper of Choice

Cat Fur or Claw

If a real cat is not available for donations of fur or claw, a simple picture of a cat can be placed into the container. Something ferocious-looking would be appropriate.

Take the jar around the house and touch it to all the exterior doorjambs and windowsills. As you do, speak softly to it:

Eyes like coals of burning fire Let all intruders taste your ire Claws as hard and sharp as steel Here and gone, but feeling real If uninvited in they come With tooth and claw, defend our home

Leave the jar where it won’t be disturbed, or bury it beside your doorstep. (Note: If you move away, you will need to retrieve the jar and either empty it to dismiss the spirit, or take the jar with you.)

Be aware: this spell summons a guardian spirit to look after your home. You will need to feed and keep it to a certain extent, as you would with any other creature sharing your living space. A simple saucer of milk and slice of bread every once in a while should do the trick. (These offerings should be left out overnight, then quietly disposed of in the morning.)

It will also be important to notify the guardian spirit of anyone who is allowed to be in the home when you’re not there, such as friends or family or housesitters. Otherwise, the spirit will take any interloper as a potential threat and try to drive them out.

My recipe for black salt + a bonus protection spell.

Tools:

Dish for black salt

Cauldron/fire safe dish

Charcoal round

Ingredients:

Parsley

Rosemary

Eggshell powder

Red pepper

Black pepper

Sage

Bay leaf

Salt

Protection oil

Set the charcoal round on or in your fire safe dish. I used my mini cauldron. Use a lighter or match to light it until it sparks 💥. Mix Parsley, rosemary, sage, red pepper, and black pepper together. Dump your herb and other mix onto the charcoal round and let it burn. I put a few drops of protection oil onto the top. I then set a bay leaf on top and light it on fire to burn it.

After all of the herbs are ash I usually have some of the charcoal disk left. From there I crush up the charcoal and mix it with the ash from the protection spell.

I mix pink salt in and eggshell powder then I pour it into my salt dish.

Arright, quick rundown of the points, more or less in order, because I've already had this discussion a hundred times:

One - There is no universal moral or ethical code in witchcraft. Not every witch is a Wiccan or follows Wiccan principles. Not even all Wiccans follow every Wiccan principle, and that includes the Rule of Three / Threefold Law. The Wiccan Rede is ADVICE, not a set of hard and fast rules or divine mandates. You don't get to tell other witches what types of spells they should and should not cast.

Two - If you think the Rule of Three / Threefold Law means, "Whatever you give out comes back to you times three" or if you think it only applies to baneful magic, you don't understand the rule. The original rule, as stated by Robert Graves in "The White Goddess" (you know, the fictional novel that Gardner used as a model for Wicca) states that whatever a witch is dealt, they should deal back three times over. In fact, the passage cites a particular initiation ritual that involves symbolic flagellation, NOT a code of ethics for witchcraft.

It was picked up by later authors as "Whatever You Give" and popularized by media like The Craft and Charmed and authors like Silver Ravenwolf in the 90s when the modern witchcraft movement was having its' millennial boom. (This is a gross oversimplification, but that's when the concept became common enough in pop culture that non-witches were starting to become familiar with the term.)

Three - Karma has absolutely nothing to do with it. Karma is not instant or sentient and the bastardized version of the concept that's been worked into much of modern witchcraft literature more closely resembles the Christian concept of sin and judgment than what karma actually is. Remove the word from your vocabulary when you're talking about magic. The universe does not give one single flying fuck what you do with your spells.

Four - The word you're searching for when you talk about these concepts is CONSEQUENCES. Every action you take, every spell you cast, everything has consequences and everything has a price. This isn't a divine mandate or a cosmic law either. It's a simple fact of life. BUT. It doesn't mean that baneful spells are morally or ethically wrong or that they're going to blow up in someone's face. The only reason a baneful spell might be more likely to rebound is that it's one of the only types of spells that witches actively ward against.

Five - Witches have a right to use magic for persuasion, defense, justice, retribution, binding, prevention, or outright harm if they so choose. If you don't like those types of spells, then don't cast them.

Six - Moral puritanism is a cancer that will destroy us all. Get off your high horse, drop the holier-than-thou bullshit, and remember that being a witch does not make you immune to propaganda.

Intention

This is not a little curse to do on someone who pissed you off this is a curse for someone close to you who had catastrophic effects on your life. someone who hurt you in so many ways that you will never be the same again. This curse is to project the suffering they caused you back onto them , it is fueled by anger and hate. In a sense this is a guilt curse .This curse is based in your own pain and suffering so it can not be sent back on you if the person also practices magick. They can’t curse you with pain you already know.

What You Need 

A poppet/doll made to look like the intended target.

A container or jar larger then the poppet/doll

Another container/jar preferably something biodegradable this container will need to be buried at some point)

Black paint or food coloring

A picture of the target , works better if its a picture of them before everything went bad. A picture of them when you still considered them a friend/whatever they were to you

A fire safe dish 

Lighter or matches

Red chalk/paint (Preferably something easily washed away)

A candle that is a color or scent that makes you happy. Or just use pink/white as a default. 

Steps

Make your poppet. Make it as close to the person’s current appearance as you can. Button eyes the color of their eyes, yarn the color of their hair, cloth the color of their skin, ect ect . Put it to the side

Fill your first container with water and pour in some black paint/food color to tint the water black. Put this to the side

On your space or a piece of paper on your space draw/paint in red sigils for guilt, pain, suffering, whatever you feel matches your intention.

 Take the picture and start to rip it into smaller and smaller pieces. With each rip say things like “You will feel the pain you made me feel” “you will suffer as I have suffered “ “there will be no forgiveness for your actions”  “I will never recognize you as a friend” “I will not look back and remember what you were,what we were” and so on and so forth, basically saying anything that you feel applies to the situation and the pain they caused you until you can’t rip the picture anymore. Most of this process is to erase the memories that make you want them back, the memories that make you miss what you had and that’s why you use a picture from before everything changed

During the picture ripening process allow your anger, hate, resentment, and bitterness to build up and give you power and energy.

Once you’ve finished ripping up the picture light the remains on fire, this might take a few tries. Wait until the fire builds up and is at its peak.

Take the poppet/doll you made hold it’s face far enough above the fire so that it’s not burning yet and say anything along the lines of “i will never recognize any good in you, there will be no recognition or forgiveness because the pain you caused me outways the good” or anything you feel applies. Then lower the poppet/dolls face into the flames burning away your positive recognition. You will never recognize them as a friend/lover/whatever. Be careful about this part, don’t brn yourself or set your house on fire.

Lift the doll/poppets face from the fire and slowly sink the entire doll/poppet into the container of black water. Saying “May you drown in your guilt, drown in my pain” Toss the burnt pictures remains in the water was well . Let it sit in this container for as long as you feel necessary

Transfer the doll and most of the water to the second container (leaving some water in the first container and seal the lid. Make sure there is enough water in the container to leak out and wash away your sigils. Charging and activating them. If there isn’t drip a little of the water on them yourself.

Place your hands on either side of the container or hold it in your hands. Begin to recall all the ways this person hurt you. With each memory visualize a black thread/rope/chain leaving your body and wrapping itself tightly around the container. Do this until your run out of negative memories.

Seal the contained with wax from the pink/white/what ever represents happiness to you candle. This is to seal the pain and hate they have caused in you with happiness. If the wax starts to char/get ash in it and the wax begins to turn black/grey it’s fine because this can represent your happiness being their misery. 

"You Feel The Pain You've Caused Me"

Be warned, some of this stuff is dangerous to handle, like, physically, not just magically. Don’t leave a curse jar full of anything that might rot in or near your house. I’m not responsible for the results of whatever you do with this information, or the results of any hexes you cast.

Ever know  so vile you cannot wish more ill will upon them than you already do? Well, this is the one stop, meanest, nastiest, curse I could come up with. Here’s what you are going to need. 

please remember to curse responsibly, this is a VERY powerful curse and really should only be used in a dire situation and for the worst of the worst people. Remember, if someone or yourself is in a terrible situation, please rely on the mundane before consulting magic.

How to: 

Write your taglock and sigils on a piece of paper along with your intentions, what do you want to happen to this person, what are you angry about, how do you want this curse to affect them.

Add your ingredients to the jar, I recommend doing the vinegar last for a lack of mess. Speak your intentions over the jar, ask your deities for help if you so desire

Seal the lid of the jar tightly, take your string, knot it nine times and each time you knot it, speak your intentions and channel your anger and pain. Then knot the string around your jar and tie tightly 

Take your candles and melt the wax on the top and seam of the jar, make sure you do it especially around the lid to prevent leaks and also that negative energy from escaping, do as much wax as you like 

There's a lot of discourse around baneful magic, hexing, chaos magic, jinxing and curses.

It's not that I want to actively encourage those practices, but all witches should know what items are used for in spells, especially if they're using advanced magic. Here's a short list of items I see used in hexes and such (no herbs!)

As always, please do your research on all ingredients in a spell in order to source them ethically.

Poppets ~ This is an item used to signify a person in a spell. You can make them out of just about anything, but I most commonly see people stitching their own dolls or using paper cut in the shape of a person.

Taglocks ~ I feel like people get Taglocks and Poppets confused. Taglocks are actually items, sometimes personal, that create a link to a certain person in a spell. This can be as simple as a photo of them, an item they left behind, or even something from their body, like hair or nails.

Graveyard Dirt ~ This is dirt obtained from, you guessed it, graves and cemeteries. Inserting my own opinion here, it's difficult to obtain Graveyard Dirt from the source ethically. In fact, prancing into a graveyard with a shovel can probably get you in a lot of trouble. Some alternatives here can be taking sticks or rocks from a gravesite (NOT anything on someone's grave) or even taking the soil from beneath a dead plant. Always leave an offering for the spirits.

Iron ~ Typically you won't see straight-up Iron listed as a spell item, but you may see rusty nails and other sharp, rusted items. Iron is used to attract and repel, so it can be used to attract negative energy to someone while repelling it from you.

Broken Glass ~ If you're able to safely collect glass after breaking an object, see if you can save it! Broken glass is great for protection in spells. A good example: if you cast a binding spell on someone, it can help prevent them from retaliating.

By no means is this the only use for these objects. In fact, many items used in baneful magic have uses in protection spells as well. Always do your research, especially to ensure you are not impeding on a closed practice of another culture, before attempting to cast ANY spells.

A Curse Jar To Help to Return The Pain Felt By The Victim to Their Abuser

Ingredients:

A Glass Jar (Must have a lid or stopper)

A Taglock (an item that belonged to them, a picture of them, a lock of hair, etc)

Black Salt (banishing, protection from further attacks by the abuser)

Lavender (depression, lack of sleep, restlessness)

Cinnamon (protection, binding, chaos)

Onion (causes strife)

Lemon (sourness, bitterness)

Hot Paprika (chaos, pain)

Cayenne Pepper (chaos, pain)

Ginger (bitterness)

Rosemary (taint their dreams, nightmares, cloud their vision)

Spit (disrespect, mainly for DNA connection) 

Black string (death, loss, mourning, depression, obscure their vision, bring out the worst, drama)

White candle (protection for caster/victim also can cause the abuser to have lack of ambition, blank their mind, disappear, make them (or yourself to them) invisible, push away their family)

All ingredients can be substituted out as the caster sees fit.

Place their taglock at bottom of the jar before covering it completely with black salt.

Next layer each ingredient on top of the other while focusing on the pain they caused. The order is as follows: first lavender, then cinnamon, onion, lemon, hot paprika, cayenne, ginger, rosemary, and spit if you feel comfortable doing so.

Put the lid on the bottle or cork it before wrapping the black web that represents the poisonous fate that will befall them.

Seal the jar with the white candle wax and wait for it to harden.

Place the jar in the deepest dark corner of your room/closet or the basement before taking a deep breath because you deserve it. It can also be placed in the abuser’s home if it is safe to do so.

Follow up with some self care and/or favorite cleansing method.

My Notes on What I Did:

For my taglock, I used my father’s sheet music copy of Every Breath You Take by The Police since he used it to get laid for the first time. I decided to do so since he’s always cared more about his ladies than his own kid.

I also used my spit because we share some of the same DNA sadly. Hopefully it will add the extra kick to this spell on this Father’s Day Eve. Be careful when spitting into the jar if you’re using spicy ingredients because putting your lips on the rim after pouring it in can cause an uncomfortable burn (I accidentally did this because I’m exhausted from work).
