Kanon gazed up at a very big beautiful house. She was on the backside of it, and a white fence surrounded it. On the inside was a blossoming garden, with lovely colours and fragrances. Kanon stood in front of the fence, her feet flat on the ground and then up on tiptoe, and again flat; she repeated this over and over. Eventually she made a smaller jump and a second bigger jump. On the third jump she reached for the fence, gripped it with her petite hands, and then she swung herself up on the white fence. She sat there for a second, looked at the trees on the property, before she jumped down on the ground on the other side.
Success, she thought after she checked to see if her dress was alright. She then hurried over to the Lockhaart's garden.
She crouched down to look at the hybrid tea roses. They had planted both the brandy and blue moon type, and they were dazzling in the daylight. She touched the pale purple flowers with tender fingers, they shimmered from the remaints of water drops from the rain.
Suddenly she heard footsteps. She knew it was one of the maids, the light taps on the ground was familiar to her ears.
"Welcome back, Miss Lockhaart" Melissa Cross said to the doll-like girl.
Kanon nodded as she stood up to face Ms Cross.
"Good day" she said softly.
They both went inside the mansion.
Before they went separate ways, the maid bowed deeply as Kanon curtsied elegantly. While Ms Cross headed for the kitchen, Kanon went up to the second floor, where her room was.
After she closed the door behind her, she walked farther into her spacy bedroom. She walked over to her desk and put her white ribbons there to dry. She took off her shoes, socks and sky blue dress. Dressed in her underwear she walked to the other side of her room, opened another door and stepped inside. Kanon stood in her walk-in closet. Her eyes caught the sight of a knitted cream white dress. She took it down from the garment hanger, and put it over her head as she pulled it down over her body. It had long sleeves and the dress reached to her thighs. On her way out she grabbed a pair of stockings from the shelves. Something black and lacy.
When the youngest maid came into the room to take care of Kanon's daily laundry, the girl had already used her hair dryer and now read a book on her bed. Miss Ray bowed before she walked further into the room to carry out her duty.
Kanon looked at the page when she spoke to the maid.
"Say, Miss Ray, what would you name something, that seems like a storm?"
The maid looked up, her eyes fell on the lady of the Lockhaart's residence. Kanon had a neutral look on her face. It rustled in the silence as she flipped to the next page.
"Storm?" Miss Ray said with a confused voice.
"Yes, a storm. Storms are known to be wild, crazy and unpredictable. Shaking up everything it is near. Both physically and mentally. But what would you name something that is like a storm, however not literally?" Kanon said calmly.
"Oh" the maid said.
Her dark wavy hair fluttered slightly as she tilted her head to the side. She closed her eyelids as if she was concentrating to come up with a good enough answer to the question.
The maid was quiet for a long time, and Kanon had already flipped through a couple more pages of the book. It was a story about a young woman living deep in a big forest, the few people that got that far thought she was a beautiful spirit.
Miss Ray broke the silence with her voice.
"What about the life itself?"
Kanon paused, but she did not look up.
"Life is very unpredictable, in my opinion. So would not the life be like a storm, then?" the maid said, and so she continued her duty once again.
A couple of minutes later, she left the room with the laundry. She bowed before she closed the door.
Kanon kept on reading, and an hour later she had finished the book. She got up and put it into her bookshelf. She also took out one of her favourite photography books. On her way back to her bed she picked up her pale silver blue computer, the one Vincent had made for her. She sat down on the bed, the small computer beside her, then she opened her huge book that had over eight hundred pages, one big picture on each page.
Kanon flipped to the part where the oceans and seas were, and she quickly became absorbed in the beauty.
She spent a long time on each page, as she gazed at the blue, green and turquoise colours that reflected the sky. Or what was underneath the water, sometimes even the water's colour itself. It was enchanting, to look at the seas and oceans. And so she was under this spell for about an hour or two. When Kanon finally looked up from her book, the lights from the windows were slightly orange. The girl closed her book and put it aside before she stood up, and went up to the windows. The sky was dyed in orange and pink, and a few dark clouds were scattered on the edge of it all. Beautiful, she thought. She stayed in that spot and watched the sky change slowly.
When it started to grow darker she went back to her bed. However, she did not pick up her photography book again. Instead she laid down on her cream white coloured bed. She closed her eyelids, fell into a shallow sleep.
One of many features expensive computers had were to mimick the sleeping state of humans and animals. It did not make the computer shut down, they were still on, their focus not on full mode. They connected to the outside world though, compared to living beings. To notice things and alert the computer to go back to full mode, for example in threatening situations. Their physical movements in their sleep state were however much more limited. The amount of time in this sleeping state could vary, if critical, they are able to be in that mode for a whole a year. If it is something casual, just a few minutes up to an hour's nap. Cheaper robot models typically charge for several hours and nothing wakes them up until then. That simply their kind of sleep.
Tiredly she woke up a few minutes later and put away her photography book and silver blue computer on top of the desk. She then changed to her sleepingwear. Switched off the lights, slipped underneath the soft bed covers, and fell into a deep sleep this time.
