Despite being the one to end up in a video game, the person she sees the most as a “character” is herself. Katarina Claes is a Villainess, a trope, someone who is destined to meet their fate simply because all fictional characters do. All villains do.

It doesn’t help that her friends only see half of her. They don’t get to know the real Katarina. Scared of her own reflection, Katarina. Scared of her friends turning on her and killing her, Katarina.

They see her as some incomprehensible being. They love her and everything about her, but they gave up on understanding her. They accept the surface level they have and move on.

They treat her like a fictional character in the way they idealize her and yet simplify her to “weird sweetheart.”
