So today we got to see who paid for that solo trip Gen took recently and which she thoroughly farmed for ābougie wellness broad who body checksācontent.
Note: her too-big shorts and the breakfast item seemingly named for her For $15 you will be hungry again in an hour.
Anyways, I digressā¦Gen is apparently the new face of Nisolo shoes. Their website shows the following web of bullshit:
(This has to be why her blog website is gone. Sheās going to do similar ghost-written word vomit here.)
If this sustainability rhetoric sounds familiar, thatās because itās the same lukewarm āadvocacyā of Towwn. (Remember TOWWN?? Gen doesnāt. Towwn, count your days.) I will go back and link some of my old posts where she droned on about how you could buy leather, it just mattered where it was sourcedā¦and whether or not you used her affiliate code.
Ok, so Nisolo is yet another brand for Gen to pretend to believe in for the next few months. Add it to the list of shoes sheās tried to get you to buy. But whatās the big deal?
Nisolo is attempting a serious revamp. After launching in 2011, Nisolo went broke and in 2025 sold their brand off to a new company and CEO that is maintaining the brand name. Yelp reviews and Reddit threads will tell you that the brandās quality had been declining for some time. Then in 2023, Nisolo launched something called Five-for-Five in which customers could spend $500 up front in exchange for 10 pairs of shoes for $50 each over a period of 5 years. Thatās not a terrible deal when you consider that all of āGenās Picks,ā for example, on the website range between $138 to $228. But if youāre following that timeline, the company didnāt last 5 years past the launch of that deal and many buyers got scammed. Some received zero shoes before the company changed hands and the new CEO announced that they would not be honoring the pre-existing 5-for-5 deals and no refunds would be given.
This guy on YouTube summarizes:
To expand on those Peruvian factory workers, here is this article. Basically, as the company was circling the drain in 2024, they stopped doing business with the factory in the country that inspired the brand to begin with. The original CEO says that it wasnāt his responsibility to pay the workers the wages and severance that they were legally owed - it was the responsibility of the factory. But the factory didnāt have severance to giveā¦so they havenāt all been paid. (Some took a deal and others didnāt because they felt it wasnāt fair.) The former CEO is also not incorrect in terms of the law, but itās still a stain on the brand name that a bunch of brown factory workers absorbed financial hardship while some white executives moved money around. Capitalists are gonna capitalize.
Now, stans will claim that none of this reflects on Gen since sheās just now walking onto the scene. She had nothing to do with those decisions. And that is technically true. But then thereās this part:
āBy people who are treated with dignityā¦ā This has to be intentional. Sheās 100% informed on the recent scandal with the Peruvian shoemakers. You wonāt convince me otherwise. The website FAQ makes a point of saying that they now produce their shoes elsewhere -
You can tell that they are attempting to distance themselves from scandal, but can they be trusted? Brazil, you in danger girl.
(See also: āDo I really need this?ā Girl, please donāt piss me off.)
And finally, this last article alerted to me to how Nisolo is currently fraudulently claiming to be B Corp certified.
B Corp certification is kind of a big deal among brands claiming to care about sustainability.
āNot just shareholdersā because the standards include things like how employees are treated, community involvement, and charitable donations. So at one point, Nisolo met the standards but as the article states, they were removed from the list and when I searched today they are still not found when you search for them on the B Corp website. Tumblr wonāt let me add another pic, but you can see for yourself at this link if you want.
So to summarize, this is Genās latest grift to capitalize on her performative activism. While one might argue that the brandās problems are in the past, as the last source mentions, the new CEO does not have a resume that speaks to people and planet as this brand claims. Glancing at the comments on Nisoloās IG, thereās a few people who are making it their mission to expose the brand - new bosses or not. And if they were hoping that Gen would build confidence in their next chapterā¦thatās a great big yikes, they probably deserve what they get, and I wonder who her buddy would was on the inside who got this job for her.
Not my juiciest post - I mean, you canāt be shocked at the shady Pada-ethics at this point- but still tea nevertheless.
