Don’t mind me while I talk about deltarune for a sec. Speculations about the weird route, spoilers for chapter 5

Kriselle knight time loop theory resolves everything I didn’t like about other knight theories. I’m more of a “vibes based” analyst of theories, and was already leaning towards a time loop/ paradox theory (except I was thinking the red soul is a catalyst for the loop) so this is purely a why I like it.

Kris already knows what the knight is, and that’s both why they obey the knight, and why they resent them all at once.

Kris is terrified of getting out of bed on the day of the festival in the weird route: Kris knows what happens next already. Kris knows they’re on the Kriselle knight timeline. That’s why they try to take the thorn ring back. This has probably been happening since we joined the story: this is why our choices don’t matter. Noelle would have always forced Kris into the lake with her on this timeline.

Worst of all, we’ve always assumed that the knight had something to do with Dess’s disappearance. Dess knight is popular for good reason. But what if the knight caused her disappearance because of time loop shenanigans? Wouldn’t a Kris and Noelle that had somehow managed to travel backwards in time do absolutely anything to save Dess? Both Kris and Noelle created their own wounds from the start.

This also adds a double meaning to everytime Kris is taunted with violence being “natural”. Yes, on our playthrough of the weird route, we are forcing it onto an unwilling Kris, but the first time maybe it happened without us. We’re just crafting the save file we want.

The knight is trying to prevent their own creation, the knight is trying to save everyone.

The only thing about this that I don’t like is that it down plays the angle of “the weird route is about you being a game freak and messing things up for them” but that goes so strongly against the message that “our decisions don’t matter” so I’m still satisfied.

Badly want to draw a “first cycle weird route” au where there is no red soul but again I feel like you can’t make deltarune fanart with no red soul spiritually because by making the art you’ve injected yourself into the narrative through drawing being the device instead of game. But like in a way that it’s not deep and I can still make fanart but I think about it every time
