“I know but I needed coffee and the donuts simply looked too delicious to pass up. You know me and my sweet tooth have no self control.” Pepper set the donuts down and took a gulp of the coffee. She winced when it burned her tongue but took another gulp anyways. After picking out donuts for the both of them Pepper handed Tabby her favorite. The apartment felt slightly unfamiliar to Pepper which upset her. It was unsettling to have their lives so separate these days. “I’ve missed your face so much. Catch me up on what’s been going on. You can’t leave out any details.”
Relenting easily with a little huff of laughter, Tabby accepted her donut with a hushed thank you and, with her hand on the small of Pepper’s back, led her to the living room so they could curl up on the couch. The prompt to catch her girlfriend up on everything, while appreciated, made her hesitate for a split second. She didn’t want to pile things up on top of Pepper, she didn’t want to see the worried look that would inevitably cross her face, and she certainly didn’t want Pepper feeling like she had to go out of her way to make sure she was okay. “It’s actually been super quiet. Same old same old, y’know?” The lie left a bad taste in her mouth and, conscious of how bad she actually was at lying, Tabby pressed on to something else. “What about you? How’s work? How’s everything?”
